[WotC] Trooper Class

Description
A 'generic soldier' class for XCOM 2 WotC that can make use of assault rifles, bullpups, vektor rifles in the main hand, and pistols or shields as secondary, as well as additional underbarrel grenades if you also subscribe to Iridar's underebarrel weapons mod.

The class is flexible, able to be equipped for the mission at hand - the durability of the shield or the Lost busting capability of the pistol. The accuracy at range of the Vektor or the close assault firepower of the bullpup. The choice is yours, Commander.

There have been many 'basic soldier' offerings on the mod workshop, but I have never really liked any of them, they usually had too much health, or too many attacks, or just something that I didint like. So I thought it was high time I created my own generic soldier mod that I wouldnt like. I hope you enjoy it.

As far as I know, the class works fine if you have not installed Iridar's mod for the underbarrel grenade launcher. You do require the balistics shield mod however, and be aware that the vektor rifle can not be equipped with the shield.

This class has no GTS perk, as I dont know how to get that to work. I make no warranty abut the bugginess or otherwise of this class. I am not a good enough modder for such things.

Trooper Ability List

Squaddie:
Impulse - bonus to aim and crit after moving on this turn
Quick Patch - Using a medkit does not cost an action
Corpseman - Gain a free medkit for the mission
Fire Pistol - You can fire a pistol

Battle Focus Tree:
Quick Draw - firing a pistol does not end your turn
Blinding Fire - fire a low accuracy attack at enemies in a cone, and reduce their aim
Lightning Hands - fire a free action shot with a pistol
Fire First - pre-emptively return fire when fired on
Face Off - fire a pistol shot at every visible enemy
Kill em All - Fire once at every target in a cone

Support Tree:
Faultless Defence - When using a shields Shield Wall ability, become immmune to critical hits
Field Medic - Gain two extra charges for your medical kit
Shield Trauma - Shield bash an enemy to disorientate and/or stun them
Disabling Shot - A weapomn shot that can stun a target for 2 actions
Protect and Serve - when using a shields Shield Wall ability, gain an extra non-move action
Avenger - when a close by ally is fired on, fire back at the attacker

odd,, it used to work fine back then aside from the tooltip :( even tried to change the ability from affect weapon secondaryWeapon to PrimaryWeapon but to no effect.
no idea what else I could try. Ill have a look if there is a changelog for the shieldmod tho if that helps me

I have made no updates. The base class only uses Pistols as a secondary option. I know tool tips when you have a shield have always been a little screwy - part of the shield mod implementation. It is possible that mod was updated. Alas since my old computer died, I do not have the ability to alter this mod (or play XCOM) right now.

hey there, its been a bit since I played a campaign with this mod but I gotta ask, did you update anything since my last post in 2020? back then the Tooltip was just weird for Quickdraw if I used Pistol as a primary but quickdraw, Faceoff and lightning hands still worked fine. now sadly it specifically mentions "fires with shield for free" and I cant use it with my Pistol Mainhand and Shield offhand. Quickdraw still works fine as before tho.

Yeah i saw that in the skill tree, but i kinda needed marauder instead of quickdraw cuz i don't use pistols as primaries and cuz i gave the trooper a rifle with 2 ammo from another mod (Standard AR = 4 dmg with 1 spread so 3-5, this other rifle has 3 dmg with 2 spread so 1-5, but mark the target to provide +5 flanked crit and +5 flanked aim).
Also since i only changed quickdraw into marauder, i still have to choose between a shield or pistol build since i didn't change lightning hands and faceoff.
But yeah, having tons of fun with marauder ^^

Is why the pistol and shield feats are opposite each other in the skill tree.

Yay! Fun is the main point of playing games. The quickdraw is intended for troopers who do not use a shield, while the shield perks, obviously, for those that do. Enjoy your game.

Yeah i got a couple new rookies and trained them as troopers, they had marauder instead of quickdraw. Gave one of them a shield and took her on a mission, i feel having marauder gives them a much wider array of options when engaging, the girl was much more fun to play than the dude with quickdraw :)

Oh, yes, making a change to a soldier mod, will not affect existing soldiers of that class. in general, new mods or mod changes require new - be it new game or new soldier. Changing a game in progress never works quite right.

Welp my approach failed and when i put marauder (which seems to be called "SkirmisherStrike") in the config file instead of quickdraw the dude in my campaign still had quickdraw.
Guess it only applies to new soldiers? No clue, will let you know.
