Ships and how to go up against them. Also information about Coastal Defences. (Updated)
In this section I will talk about the ships you will encounter in the game. How to go up against the Ships is your choice but I will be putting my suggestion on here. I will only talk about the ships I know for certain that I have gone up against that have worked. I will add more ships later as I play the game some more. To Conclude I will be discussing about Coastal Defences.

1. Torpedo Boats/Motor Boats/Motor Launchers/Motor Torpedo Launchers

These Boats are common among Harbour Defence forces with in the game. These boats use Diesel Engines than the tradition Steam Engines that are common among the higher ships. These boats can be taken out easily by Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers and Battleships. Any ship having a 6inch gun or higher can take out these boats. Be warned they are very agile and could easily slip through your shells. When they get close enough they can torpedo you and sink you with in 2 depending on what type they have. Motor Launchers are only armed with depth charges so you don't have to worry about them firing at you unless you're a submarine. If you are a Submarine don't bother waisting a torpedo if they do not have any depth charges. Save your Torpedos for the Destroyers, Corvettes and Motor Launchers.

2. Corvettes

Corvettes are used as Harbour Defence forces as well as for Anti-Submarine Patrols. With Corvettes are mostly found being British. They are armed with a 4inch deck gun and depth charges and the ever deadly Hedgehog. Again like before any ship having a 6inch gun or higher can easily take out a Corvette. If you are a Submarine do not go up against a Corvette they are very agile and can easily invade your torpedo. If they get close enough their Hedgehog can be launched against you easily destroying you. Stick with dealing with these people by having Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers and Battleships dealing with them.

3. Destroyers

Most commonly use for Anti-Submarine Patrols and for use with long distance Task Forces so they can escort Cargo ships. Use mostly for Anti-Submarine purposes Destroyers can offer a range of 4.7inch to 5.7inch guns. Armed to the teeth with Depth Charges, do not go up against them if you are a Submarine, DIVE AND GET AWAY! Again any ship with a 6inch gun or higher can easily take out a Destroyer. Though be warned, like small boats, Destroyers are easily able to dodge your incoming shells. Also some Destroyers are armed with Torpedoes so be careful.

4. Light Cruisers/Cruisers/Heavy Cruisers

These guys are armed with 6inch guns or higher sometimes 8inch guns for Heavy Cruisers. These guys you should only deal with by the 14inch 15inch 16inch 17inch 18inch Battleships. These are the back bone of any Navy. There main purposes are for Convy defence or for Blasting out structures on the island for you to take over. All of these Cruisers should be taken out by Heavy Cruisers or Battle Ships. WARNING: Some Light Cruisers by the British and American are armed with Depth Charges. If you are a Submarine assume all Light Cruisers have depth charges and dive away. Cruisers also have depth charges from the American side as well. According to my knowledge so far no Heavy Cruisers have depth charging capabilities. Some Light Cruisers might carry torpedoes so be careful.

5. Battleships

These guys are all armed with high end naval cannons. 14inch-18inch. These should only be dealt with by other Battleships. If you are a Submarine remain underwater. You do not have to worry about depth charges by Battleships as they contain no depthcharges. These Battleships are hard to sink as they are design to give and take damage. They are also useful for bombarding coastal defences allowing you to take over a port. I recommend you start building some Battleships as they will become useful in easily taking out enemy Destroyers. One weakness of a Battleships is they are big and have a large turning radius. Use this to your advantage when trying to go after a Battleship.

6. Aircraft Carriers

These guys are the most coolest ship out of any ship a Navy can have. There ability to carry aircraft into naval battles are cool. If you are going to go up against an Air Craft Carrier they are not armed with that well deck guns. They can easily be taken out by 6inch guns or higher. WARNING: The AI aircraft in this game will sink you! Only go after an Aircraft Carrier if you are sure they have no more airplanes left on them. Watch out for Fighter Patrols who may circle above to defend an Aircraft Carrier.

7. Submarines
The good old Submarines also called "Silent Hunters" and "U-boats", have the weakness of being very easy to sink with depth charges while they are at periscope depth. I recommend going up against Submarines with a Corvette with hedgehogs or Light Cruisers with depth charge capability. If you have a Light Cruiser with depth charge capability going up against a submarine you will not sink after 1 torpedo compared to a small Destroyer. This allows you a fighting chance. Be warned a single hit from a torpedo can instantly sink you. Bombers with ASW capability are great to go after Submarines as well. Though be warned they might try to shoot down your bomber.

8. Coastal Defences

Like for any important military establishment on an island, Coastal Defences work to protect the island from ships and bombers. The most common things found as Defences for Islands include 6inch coastal guns common along small port Islands, 15inch coastal guns common along medium ports, 16inch coastal guns common along large ports and ship yards. Small AAA emplacements, are used for anti-aircraft and anti-ship defence, common among small ports. Medium AAA emplacements follows the same idea as the small but found in medium ports. Large AAA emplacements follows the same idea but found in large ports and Ship yards. Every port has an airport so watch out for the air patrols that might attack you as you try to advance into a Port. I recommend you build some Battleships and use their guns to clear out the coastal defence guns and AAA establishments. This allows you to send in bombers to mop up the work of the other establishments. I recommend Battleships even though they are slow they can take a beating while giving a beating.

Conclusion:
Going up against any Task force requires prior knowledge of what that Task force contains. I recommend having some spotter planes do recon along areas to identify any Task force out of view. Have some Corvettes with ASW capability do some routine patrols to try to flush out some submarines. If the Corvetttes run into a Task force bigger than it is, use that information to help plan an intercept course and to gather what kind of information about the Task force. Destroyers with ASW are great for patrols as well. Another thing to mention is to upgrade your ships and ports as soon as you can. The upgrades can help you out with damage when it comes to a fire fight. I leave you with two battles rules that you should follow. #1 Leave no man behind. #2 Know everything about your opposition. From the size and names of every soldier and apparatus of their fleet, to the size of their night janitor's underwear. Everything.

I wish you luck comrades.

@kangarootheroo77

his advice is two years old. did it feel good to criticize 2 year old info that via patches became unviable, or do you just go around complaining outdated data is outdated?

im sorry but your strategy doesny apply to this game anymore, with there new update they just did everything you shoot misses everything the enemy has ,amazingly they turned easy into extremely hard.i would hate to play hard,in combat mode i sent two sets of bombers from two cvs against one cv[enemy], guideing the planes in myself and missed with all my planes witch in real life is statistically impossible.two when i finally figured out where they twerked my bomb runs it still took two flifgts of bombers and 48 fighters to sink said cv.the guns on ships are just as bad although the enemy hasnt lost threre acuracy, three i will never get enough battleships on the american side to stay away from the japanese guns.five i have to run away from fights to conserve my ships even when the odds are on my side,so yes your advice just turned into a discrepancy.
