Lobby Leader Config
By Tя!cky ツ
Have you ever been the Lobby Leader and selected Best Available Dedicated only to be connected to some random modded out server? WTF - you leave and try again only to be connected again to the same crap server. I Hate That! I want to connect the servers I like as the Lobby Leader.

In this tutorial you will be taught as the Lobby Leader to connect to your FAV servers (requires you connect to an empty server).

Before we start we need to have an (autoexec.cfg) CFG File setup with the list of servers you frequent and or those Steam Group servers you want to connect to as Lobby Leader *if empty*. But, don't worry we can string a bunch of server IP's together and it will go to each IP til it finds an empty one to connect you to.

Where to find empty servers for my Lobby Leader Config?
If you don't personally have any Dedicated L4D2 servers or NOT in a Steam Group that shares them. You could use Demo servers that these Rental Places offer instead. These servers tend to stay empty and are great for using in this Config.

Or Click here to search -> for Valve Official empty servers using GameTracker[www.gametracker.com]

http://www.gameservers.com/game_servers/l4d2-left_4_dead_2_server.php

Here's an example list of Gameservers.com Demo L4D2 Servers as of 9/01/2013.

How do you make a config file?
So now we need to have a (autoexec.cfg) CFG File setup with the list of server IP's you would frequent and or those Steam Group servers you want to connect to as Lobby Leader *if empty*.

How do you make a config file?

a. Open a blank Notepad or a blank .txt Document

b. Copy and Past this example line into the body of Notepad or Text Document

mm_dedicated_force_servers 8.6.15.6:27015,8.6.2.228:27015

**note you can string as many IP's as you want put a comma in between and add at the end of each IP this :27015

c. Click File and Save As. In the File Name box, type the file name with a CFG extension, and place quotes around the file name, should read ''autoexec.cfg'' The quotes are essential. Select the destination folder and click Save.
Where do I put the CFG file?
Now that we have made the Autoexe.cfg file, with your list of FAV IP's. Let put it in the right directory. So, depending on where you installed Steam either C. Drive or Elsewhere.

a. Go to your Steam directory

Program Files (x86)> Steam > SteamApps > common > left 4 dead 2 > left4dead2 > cfg
Place the autoexec.cfg file here!

Set Launch Options...
Now to make the (autoexec.cfg) work we need to set our Launch Options for L4D2.

a. Click on or Highlight Left4Dead2 then click on the "Properties" button at the bottom
New Pop-up appears and you'll click on the "Set launch options" button
now paste the this command: +exec autoexec.cfg
click OK!

If you don't want to view the startup movie each time paste this:
-novid +exec autoexec.cfg
Last Step...
Now Start L4D2 and just CREATE NEW LOBBY and be sure to you select SERVER TYPE to be: Best Available Dedicated. Those IP's in the (autoexec.cfg) file will be looked at one by one till it finds an empty server and connects you. - ENJOY

** Note, If all the servers in your cfg string are occupied. Steam will default back to it's way of finding you an empty Best Available Dedicated like before.

Just a few points

1. +exec autoexec.cfg isnt required in the launch options. Autoexec.cfg will be executed by default if it exists.
If you dont have an "Autoexec.cfg" "config.cfg" will be executed & if this dont exist steam generates one from the "config_default.cfg"

2. Selecting "Best Available Dedicated" isnt required as you have already forced the server choice with "mm_dedicated_force_servers"

Simply make lobby, choose map & start. Thats all that required

3. If all servers are full steam will ask you if you want to host a local server

@ Virgil - Dedicated servers when empty default back to a single map, which is set in the server config. What your seeing is they picked different maps as the default on them. Those servers play all the stock maps. When your the Lobby Leader whatever stock map you choose those servers will change to it.

@ Virgil - the GameServer Demo one's it's typical they would be all Vanilla (non-modded). Those are for possible clients that want to test pings before they rent from GamesServers.

u dont have to add +exec autoexec.cfg in the launch options because the autoexec.cfg is an "autoexecutable" file :D
