Breach Surge Spark Damage Testing
By Briggs
I ran a few tests to try and find out what Wisp's Breach Surge spark damage and the multiplier is.

Info
Special thanks to my friend Train who knows a lot more about testing this stuff out than I do.

This is the Wisp I'll be using unless mentioned otherwise:
And these are her stats on Breach Surge:
Test 1: Slash Procs v Grineer
Test subject:
Corrupted Bombard at lvl 165, stripped of all armor.
The test was to see if individual weapon procs had any pattern in spark damage. Not really anything official but just a quick thing to start. Originally I was going to leave it after this test because I assumed the numbers were random. I tried to pick out some various weapons with various mods that did not add extra status procs. I wanted the easiest one to get, which was Slash.

Part 1: Sheev (modded)
Proc: 963
Spark: 7,079
7,079 / 156 = 7.350986500519211 = ~7.35x‬

Part 2: Prisma Skana (unnmodded)
Proc: 156
Spark: 1,146
1,146 / 156 = 7.346153846153846 = ~7.35x

Part 3: Prisma Dual Cleavers (unmodded)
Surprisingly left the same damage on a proc as the Priska Skana. Whoops. But at least spark damage between different weapons seems consistent.
Proc: 156
Spark: 1,146
1,146 / 156 = 7.346153846153846 = ~7.35x

Part 4: Braton Prime (unmodded)
Proc: 12
Spark: 87
87 / 12 = ‭7.25‬x (that was the exact decimal)

Overall, it was fairly consistent until I got to the Braton Prime, which gave a clean 7.25x damage increase.
Test 2: Damage on Hit v Grineer
Test subject:
Corrupted Bombard at lvl 165, stripped of all armor.
This test was to see whether or not damage on hit (as opposed to damage from slash procs) created Sparks with the same damage boost numbers as before. This test uses only the Braton Prime, just because I wanted to see how a single weapon fared.

Overall, still some noticeable consistencies.

Inconsistent Sparks:
These results are outliers, for various reasons.

Damage: 84
Spark: 2146
This number is much too large, especially after getting consistent results (as shown previously with hits dealing 84 damage). However, this number popped up more than once, but I have not managed to catch the requirements to achieve it.
Yellow.

Damage: 36
Spark: 352
The decimal here is 9.777777777777778, or about a 9.78x increase, much larger than the norm.
Yellow.

Damage: 126
Spark: 1234
Interestingly enough, as an orange Spark, it gave a similar damage increase as the result above. The decimal is 9.793650793650794‬, which translates to a damage increase of 9.79x.
Orange.

Damage: 590
Spark: 3551
The decimal is much too low. ‭6.01864406779661‬ is a 6.02x increase, much lower than the rest. Possibly a fluke, only got this once.
Orange.
Test 3: Unmodded Damage on Hit v Grineer
Test subject:
Corrupted Bombard at lvl 165, stripped of all armor.
This test is to see whether or not there is a difference in the damage multiplier when using an unmodded Wisp as opposed to a modded one. Instead of a supposed 4.9x damage increase, I should have only 2x. Also a small test on crits and whether or not they affect the numbers.

Part 1: Braton Prime (unmodded)
Damage on hit: 84
Spark: 252
252 / 84 = 3x‬

Part 2: Braton Prime (modded for crit chance)
Damage on hit: 185
Spark: 555
555 / 185 = 3x

Part 3: Vulkar Wraith (modded for crit chance)
Damage on hit: 640
Spark: 2,561
2,561 / 640 = 4.0015625 = 4x

Orange. This was too clean of a number to leave out. Also, the Spark damage is almost exactly twice as high as the following result, despite having a different multiplier for the damage done in the end. However, it might have been a coincidence. Unsure of how this happened.

Part 4: Vulkar Wraith (modded for crit chance)
Damage on hit: 427
Spark: 1,281
1,281 / 427 = 3.071942446043165 = ~3.07x

Part 5: Dread (modded for crit chance)
Damage on hit: 10,305
Spark: 30,923
30,923 / 10,305 = ‭3.000776322173702‬ = 3x

Orange.
An extra: Not a part of this section but I will not be attempting this again, the Dread proc for Slash was 45 and gave a 135 damage Spark, meaning it was consistent with the 3x damage multiplier being shown here.

Inconsistent Sparks:
These results are outliers, for various reasons.

Vulkar Wraith:
Damage: 5,392
Spark: 64,720
Like... How? This was an orange crit. For reference, this gives ‭12.00296735905045‬, meaning it was a 12x boost.

I had some weird results with the Vulkar Wraith. As much as I would love to put them into one category or another, these felt like they were worth recording for simple cause and effect. Many are obvious outliers, and some look like they fit with the observed average damage boost, but I wasn't going to do a separate test for the Vulkar Wraith. These were accidents that occurred when I was doing test 3 with a modded Wisp instead of an unmodded one. I got these results numerous times, and could not figure many of them out. A few out of the bunch are worth noting.

The results are in no particular order and are numbered as they will be discussed below the table.

Crit fields left blank I am uncertain with and forgot. Assume they are yellow, as I generally only note everything BUT yellow crits.

These results were obtained with my modded Wisp, once again these are the Breach Surge stats:

  1. This one fits into the usual ~7.35x multiplier seen in previous results for this build. Nothing out of the ordinary.
  2. While unusual, the ~9.8x multiplier has been seen in other results. Still unsure what causes it, but it doesn't seem like a coincidence that this multiplier keeps popping up.
  3. This result doesn't fit anywhere. A clear outlier.
  4. Another outlier at the moment.
  5. A seemingly obvious outlier, however, the hit and Spark damage being multiples of other damage numbers can't just be a coincidence. This number is close to another I got, and considering the range due to decimals not shown by damage numbers ingame, it's possible this is another multiplier I haven't been able to successfully replicate more than a few times.
  6. Another outlier at first glance. Double the average multiplier.
  7. It's ya boy, the 29.98x multiplier, back at it again. Too close to number 5 to leave be. Three times the damage of the usual multiplier. Possibly a headshot multiplier??
  8. Not an outlier, fitting into the average yet again.

Some more notes:
  • Numbers 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8 share damage being multiples of 213, but with almost all different results.
  • 1 is simply half of all the damage numbers in 8.
  • 5 and 6 are double the multiplier that 6 is, and yet 6 is double the average multiplier I've been seeing everywhere.
Thoughts Thus Far
A reminder about an unmodded Wisp's Breach Surge:

My modded Breach Surge:

The damage multipliers thus far are completely different from what is shown ingame. The 2x seems to be 3x at base, and a 4.9x seems to be 7.35x. From the small amount of tests I did on the Corrupted Bombards, this looks like the result of one of three things. One, the damage multiplier is completely wrong and should be fixed on the stats screen. Two, the ability is working not as intended and has to be fixed. Three, The damage multiplier shown in the stats has nothing to do with Spark damage. Honestly I hope it's just the first one.

As it turns out there was a 4th, completely unheard of option that only masterminds could have figured out. Grineer with no armor are weak to Radiation damage, meaning Sparks are affected by weaknesses.
Test 4: Procs + Hits v Corpus
Test subject:
Corpus Tech at lvl 165
This is to test out procs as well as hits v Corpus. Since the Grineer multiplier was consistent across the board at 3x base damage for the Spark, theoretically this test alone should give a clear understanding of the damage multiplier versus Corpus. This was conducted with an unmodded Wisp. Nothing major.

Part 1: Braton Prime (unmodded)
Proc: 12
Spark: 36
36 / 12 = ‬3x

Part 2: Braton Prime (unmodded)
Damage on Hit: 42
Spark: 126
126 / 42 = ‬3x

Still a 3x multiplier at base.
Test 5: Damage vs Armor Levels
Done with an unmodded Braton Prime and Wisp. For the sake of clarity, info will be left in a table. These enemies are all armored.

Test 6: Sparks From Other Enemies
This test was to check whether or not Sparks from other enemies had the same multiplier. This particular test was done by shooting a lvl 165 Charger and allowing the Sparks to hit other enemies, in this case being fully armored lvl 165 Heavy Gunners and Bombards.

This was done with an unmodded Wisp and a Vulkar Wraith.

Part 1
Damage on Charger: 546
Spark damage to Bombard: 173
173 / 546 = ‭0.3168498168498168‬ = ~0.32x‬

Part 2
Damage on Charger: 546
Spark damage to Heavy Gunner: 26
26 / 546 = ‭0.0476190476190476‬ = ~0.05x‬

The next section was done shooting a lvl 165 Charger and having a Spark hit an unarmored lvl 165 Bombard. Just for fun. Once again, this is with an unmodded Wisp and Vulkar Wraith.

It seems like the base multiplier is still 3x, not 2x. What about from Grineer to Corpus? The next section is done with unshielded lvl 165 Corpus Techs and unarmored Heavy Gunners. Same weapon, same frame stats.

Still shows to be a 3x multiplier.
More Notes
Damage seems to be affected by armor, but the multiplier seems to be consistent against flesh. At base, it seems to be a 3x multiplier. The multiplier seems to be affected by power strength, as there is consistency between my modded and unmodded build multipliers.

Damage is greatly reduced by armor, meaning that obviously affects the Spark. But at the same time, that would mean that Gunner and Bombard armors would give the same results, since they have the same armor values, but they don't.

These are the stats for a lvl 165 Heavy Gunner from the wiki, with armor:

And these are the stats for a lvl 165 Bombard from the wiki, also with armor:

My next best guess is that their different armors affect the damage dealt to them, meaning the Spark probably has some sort of damage type. That explains why it has a different multiplier for Gunner armor compared to Bombard armor, but it doesn't explain the barely-changing multiplier seen across the 3 common factions when hitting only their flesh. Sparks from the Infested hit the Corpus for a 3x base, Sparks from Grineer hit Infested for a 3x base, etc.

Damage resistance plays no role here, as Gunners and Bombards have almost identical damage resistance when armored.

Also, Sparks have a chance to set off Sparks on an enemy they hit, although it seems like that enemy also has to be under the effects of Wisp's 3.

Just as an FYI I never did damage testing before so this was more of a fun thing I did to show a friend. I did in fact mess a lot of things up cuz I don't care all that much about the intricacies of damage testing, and I don't know much about armors and whatnot going into this. It looks fancy but it's really a bunch of stuff I was just trying to figure out on my own and it's probably all either wrong or easily explained by someone who actually knows what they're doing.

I understood almost none of this but it was cool to look at. Lol
