[Definitive Guide] Old Demolition Wargames
By evil bob
Most of the Guides on Steam and the internet about demolition only talk about how to get the achievement but next to none talk about how to actually play the maps and gamemode probably because the soul of the game has been sucked out in place of making money off of skins. Brr number go up!

Anyway, I decided to write this guide...

A general guide to the basics of playing the Demolition game mode. This guide talks about what separates demolition from other game modes, it systems, maps, bugs & basic strategies. More in-depth guide can be found for each map in the correlating map section of this guide.

Introduction
Demolition is a casual at most 6v6 usually in the bomb defusal gamemode in cs:go. Referred to as "Demo" for short, consists of the best of 20 rounds or first to 11. Where the terrorist have to plant the bomb and the Counter-Terrorist have to prevent it from exploding. What separates this mode from the others is the gun levelling mechanic, where you 'level up' your gun depending on if you've manage to get a kill in the previous round.
Weapons
Gun Levels
The guns start good and progressively get harder to use in comparison to lower levels. This makes it balanced for the most part.

Maps
List of official maps in Demolition as of 2019 & their correlating guides:
P.S. someone help me write these, I cant be f*cked to do it all myself.

The maps within the Demolition are usually small and fast paced which can turn for or against you at anytime.
Bots
1UP Bot
Pressing 'E' while spectating a bot on your team will give you control over the bot just like if you were alive. It is usually better to take over a bot then to leave it to run out and die.

Z, 4
If there are any bots on your team you will want to at the beginning of each round use the "Hold this position" command; Press Z key then the number 4 key on your keyboard. There should be something in the chat of the command then one where the bots say "roger that" or "negative" if they're cun75.

This gets the bots to stay in spawn and should prevent them from running straight into the enemy and dieing. The bots will be safe in spawn so if you die you can take over.

You might want to also do z, 5 to get the bots to follow you because they will be people that want to get some easy kill by farming the bots in spawn.

Bot Arsenal
Bots usually get less kills than human players which means that they'll have lower tier, better weapons to take control of. You'll have an AK-47 or P90 while most other player are stuck on pistols.

Note: use Z, 4 at start of round to keep bot & gun safe or you can type kill in console and control the bot at the start of the round. P.s May trigger some people.

X-ray Vision
Bot have x-ray vision and can see you when if they were human they probably wouldn't. Eg. Place where there are shrubbery or gaps.

Tips & Strategies
At the start of round there is a small window of time to set up an offensive strategy or deter rushing enemies either by throwing a grenade, holding an angle or shooting through walls.

Keeping track of weapons
If someone is destroying your team in one round (usaully someone who joined mid game thus has a lower tiered weapon compared to everyone else) you can set up your next round to counter the gun that they'll have. For example, if some gets a lot of kills with a desert eagle you know next round that they will have a Nova shotgun then you could choose to hold longer angles that will make their gun less effective, giving you the advantage.
Wallbangs
Just because you can't actually see an enemy doesn't mean that you can't still shoot them. At the risk of being called a hacker you can try shooting enemies through walls with common lineups and 'gamesense', using audio and radar queues and timing to predict where they are. (See map guides for some lineups)

Effective Guns for Wallbangs
Most guns can kill people through a wall but they aren't all created equal. High caliber guns like the Ak47, m4a4 & Desert Eagle are really effective at penetrating walls. In contrast pistols like the glock and shotguns, nova arent as effective (Nova had a small buff because it use to not be able to shoot through paper).

Tip
To see if a surface is wallbangable type this into console
sv_showimpacts 1;
This will show you where your bullets are hitting.

To help Place a bot with
bot_place
into the spot you want to shoot & type in console
r_drawothermodels 2
This allows you to see models through walls.
Boosting
In demolition boosting can give you a huge advantage. Most players don't know you can do it probably because you couldn't until very recently, they won't be expecting it. In casual gamemodes team mates are clippable horizontally but are solid on their heads allowing you to jump on their heads to gain extra height to see over objects or to jump up on to high platforms.

Types Of Boosts & Techniques
Google yourself
  • Normal Boost
  • Run Boost
  • Tripple Boost
  • Bhop
  • Surf
  • Long Jump
  • Edge surf Glitch
  • Crouch Fall Glitch
  • Pixel Walk
  • Pixel Surf
  • Pixel Bump used with P/Surf

Exploring Boost Spots
Easy way to find boost spots is offline. Once in a game first type in console:
sv_cheats 1; bot_stop 1; mp_roundtime 50; mp_respawn_on_death_ct; mp_respawn_on_death_t 1
This will enable cheat commands, stop bots from moving & set round time to 50 minutes. Set infinite respawn on ct & t

Next put this in:
bind 1 "toggle r_drawclipbrushes 2 0"; bind 2 "noclip"; bind 3 "bot_place"; bind 4 "toggle bot_crouch 1 0";

This will bind your keys to:
  • 1 key to show or hide clipping
  • 2 key to allow you to fly through clipping
  • 3 key to place bots to see if its possible to boost inside a normal game
  • 5 makes the bots crouch and stand up.
Bot Positioning
You can place bots anywhere you want. Stand in the place that you want the bot to be and type to the console:
getpos_exact
It will out put a long number value copy it and place it in:
setpos_player [PLAYER NUM] [POS VALUE]
[PLAYER NUM] - Number associated with every player in the match. Change the number tp positions other bots, 0 will position yourself (good to practice jumps).
Ladders
Ladders are a very common enemy of the average csgo player but with a little bit of practice they can be your friend.

In cs:go you can climb up a ladder by walking forward and looking up but what some people don't know is that you can climb a ladder faster by going up it diagonally. While pressing 'A' & 'W' or 'S' & 'W' while looking up and to the left or right.

Bugs
Every map in official demolition map pool has its own selection of bugs and problems but these are general ones.
  • If you get a killed while controlling a bot it won't level up their gun.
  • Grenades disappear at the end of the round.
  • If you stand too close to a door that brakes you get stuck.
  • If too many people try to open a door at once then it won't open.
  • Placing your crosshair on the gaps next to the door you are some times able to see names of someone on the other side pop up.
  • multiple people can get stuck in between the door if it gets close while people are going through.
  • Bushes, shrubbery and other small object disappear if seen from far away.
  • Disconnect & reconnect to a game resets your gun level.
  • Damage given to enemies doesn't show in console after the round ends. Only when you die.
  • Team balancing will move players even if it's already balanced.
  • possible to have 6 players on a team.
  • Possible to have 7 players on a team... its happened 3 times out of thousands of games (proof).
  • Sometimes a player will be invisible on the leader board and when spectating them their name says, "unconnected".
  • Killed by bomb doesn't affect number of deaths.
  • At the end of the game changing from demolition to flying scoutsman and voting for a map not supported by flying scoutsman right before the map switch you are able to play casual on that demolition map.
  • Taking control of a bot then switching team can brick the bots.
  • seems like you can't shoot through people
Misc
Vote Kick Abuse
Another reason to play with a friend is because some people will try and kick you seemingly for no reason.

Excuses for being kicked:

D1ck Moves
  • They think it's funny.
  • You're doing better then they are or their friend is on the other team and wants you to be kicked.
  • They want to play in a 2 v X players, kicking anyone whom joins their team.
  • They think that you are hacking.
Legitimate
  • AFK
  • Frequently switching teams which can mess up the bot team balancing, making it a 4v6.
  • Actually hacking.
  • Toxicity (Mic spam, chat spam, not playing objective, etc.)
Note: When you get kicked you won't be able to play the gamemode for at least 15 minutes, then you'll most likely join back with the same people that kicked you, glhf.

Bot Control Abuse
They switch to the opposite team just to type "kill" in the console and kill all the bots before they can be taken over.

People joining & leaving
People join and leave all the time. One moment you have a full lobby and the next they are only 3 people they in the game. Rarely it's the opposite, you in a 2v2 with the rest bots and within 1 round Volvo decides to fill your lobby probably coming from another gamemode.

Voice & Text Chat
When you are dead only other dead people in the match and hear you speak/text including dead players on the other team. when your alive only your teammates can hear you speak.

High Flash Bounce Glitch

team switch damage
