Introduction

Yo fellow gamer, thanks for giving this guide a quick peek! I'm currently in the process of fleshing out this guide, but there is still a lot of meat on the bone so if you have the appetite for it, read on. I don't have a drop dead date on completing this guide as I am still working my way through the game.

By the way, did you know that Zombies use shampoo? Yeah, I found their Head-n-Shoulders left in the bathroom. (boo - hiss!)

I hope it goes without saying - but I'm going to say it anyway - that this guide contains spoilers. Skip to the end if you want to bypass the spoilers... and no, the butler didn't do it!

Game Play Overview
Zombie Solitaire 2 Chapters 1 - 3 features 4 different types of game play, which I'll refer to as mini games just for ease. These mini game types are: Events, Solitaire, Match-3 and Fragmented Object scenes. The map is color-coded so that you can identify levels of each type.

Levels with a faint blue outline (i.e. level 18) are Events, levels with no colored outline (i.e. level 19) are the solitaire levels, levels with an orange outline (i.e. level 20) are Match-3 bouts, and finally levels with a green outline (i.e. level 21) are Fragmented Object scenes. These will be covered in more detail later in the guide!

General Tips and Tricks
These tips and tricks are targeted to the solitaire portion of the game, and probably apply to most solitaire games of this type. I can see you're dying to get started so without further ado...

Learn the Cards
Each card, from Ace to King, features a unique Zombie in differing poses. On most levels one or more cards will be partially covered and it is invaluable to be able to determine what the covered card is so that you can make intelligent decisions. This will give you a leg up on the game! Note that many of them have similar poses that only differ by clothing color. Number cards are tinged a baby blue while face cards are tinged with pale orange.

Wildcard Cards
This might be a no-brainer , but you should be careful not to waste wildcards. They don't cost an arm and a leg, but "waste not, want not" still holds true. You cannot have 2 cards of the same value in your wildcard collection.

Consider the image below, for example. There is an 8 Wildcard on the board and in my hand. If I click on the 8 wildcard on the board while I still have an 8 wildcard in my hand, I will forfeit (waste) the second wildcard. It is most cost effective to use the 8 wildcard in your hand before collecting the 8 wildcard on the board. Sometimes the cards just do not play out in such a way that you can do this, but keep it in mind.

Stars In Your Eyes
On some solitaire hands you can achieve three stars without getting a "perfect" (removing all cards). Since the game only has achievements based on three stars per level and not for perfects, you can save your power-ups and wildcards by simply leaving cards on the board if needed once you have removed enough cards to receive three stars. Money should not be an issue and the special cards are cheap so it is not a big deal, but the choice is up to you.

Special Power-up Cards
Make no bones about it, some of the power-up cards in Zombie Solitaire 2 are very powerful. The Zombie Blaster and Joker power-ups are so powerful it is almost impossible to lose a hand if you make use of them. I find myself attempting not to use the power-ups just to keep some challenge in the game. You may feel differently, but I try to stick to only the lower-end power-ups and wildcards.

And be aware and beware of wasting a power up. The Shotgun cannot remove chained cards, however the Zombie Blaster can. In this case I wasted my Shotgun card and had to restart the level.

Eye Spy
Zombie Solitaire 2 offers the occasional "Fragmented Object" scene, which simply means you have to locate broken pieces of an object that are scattered around a location. You should keep an eye out for them. They are not difficult, but the occasional piece can be a bit small and hard to discern against the background.

I am including the solution to each of these levels in the guide in the event it helps someone, and honestly, it gives the content more heft. You can click on any image to get a closer view. Not every fragment is a dead giveaway!

Level 1 - The Flippers

Level 8 - The Running Shoes

Level 21 - The Walking Stick

Level 31 - The Tractor Key

Level 41 - The Coin

Level 55 - The Plank

Level 68 - The Flashlight

Level 85 - The Jerrycan

Events
The game copy on the Steam Store page indicates there are "multiple choice text adventures" in Zombie Solitaire 2, but these are more like "random events", except they are not random (refer back to Game Play Overview section). Each event gives you a couple choices - usually a Yes or No - and then you reap the rewards or pay the price for your choices.

Each events only occurs the first time you play a level. After being triggered the level becomes a standard solitaire hand and you don't have the chance to try a different answer. To experience an event again you must start a new game. (Yes, I replayed the game several times just to provide this guide for you!)

There are not very many of these events, which is probably a good thing, but they are a small diversion from the solitaire levels. The details on each event are listed below, so check them out if you have the guts.

Level 4 - The Ginger-haired Man
You meet an exhausted survivor. You can chose to help him live to receive 20 gold, or let him drift out to sea to die.

Level 10 - The Thirsty Child
Aw... of course you want to have compassion and give the young girl a drink, but have you ever heard the phrase "no good deed goes unpunished"? If you wish to play it out, then spend as much of your gold buying power-up cards before you reach level 10. Even though it is early in the game you don't want to lose all your gold by answering Yes.

Level 18 - The Drink
A group of people camping out in the wood blissfully unaware of the zombie apocalypse going on in the civilized world ask you to join them. You might be wondering "witcher" way you should answer. Why not have a few drinks and make some new friends. You get 300 gold by rolling the drunks! (OK, not exactly...)

Level 35 - The Tractor Disaster
Uh-oh, noisy tractor engine restart. This ends in a fight (Match-3) either way. Go ahead and throw candy. Throwing the candy does not seem to reduce the zombies you have to defeat.

Level 45 - The Clown Doll
A creepy clown doll... what can go wrong!? Apparently in this case, nothing. Check out the doll and remove the mask to get a full set of wildcards. Skip it to get nothing.

Level 75 - Wildcards
Don't bust a gut, but you may just lose all your wild cards. I'm just ribbing you, unless you answer No, Select Yes to grab your wildcards, which leads to decent match-3 level, but you retain any wildcards you have. Answer No for a solitaire level sans your wildcards.

Match-3 Maker
I love match-3 games, so I enjoy these levels more than the Events or Fragmented Object scenes, but Zombie Solitaire 2's implementation makes me lose my head. Almost every other match-3 game rewards you for making matches of more than three, yet in Zombie Solitaire 2 it can be detrimental to make larger matches. Let me elaborate as to why.

The goal in these match-3 levels is to defeat some number of Zombies by throwing specific candy at them. The candy you need to "throw" (i.e. match) for each zombie is shown in the small circles that rotate around their portrait, as can be seen in this snippet.

You would need to make 5 star matches, 2 candy canes matches, and 1 match each of peppermint (a.k.a. purple sweets), blue mint and green gum (my best guess) to defeat this zombie.

Consider the image below, where in most match-3 games it would be a good move to match the 4 green gums, possibly resulting in a power-up bonus, or maybe doing extra damage. However, in this case matching 4, 5 or more candies only counts as a single "hit", removing only one candy from the portrait. Therefore, the best approach in this case is to make 2 matches of 3 green gums instead of a single match of 4, thereby generating 2 hits instead of 1.

The exception to this is the peppermints (a.k.a. purple sweets), where matching 4 or more candies results in a "sugar bomb" power-up. It can be worth your while to create a sugar bomb if you need to match a peppermint to defeat a zombie anyway, but might not be worth it if it will not generate a hit on a visible zombie, as turns are limited.

The sugar bomb can be useful, but it is difficult to determine exactly what damage it will do to any zombies. It seems to always generate one hit, but I would have expected it to generate a hit for each different type of candy that is blows up, but that does not appear to be the case. It will generate multiple hits on occasion, maybe based on how many of the same candy are blown up.

However, the sugar bomb is good for destroying a large block of squares allowing for more pieces to drop from above and create cascading matches, and detonating a sugar bomb does NOT count as a turn, which is the real benefit of the sugar bomb. For maximum impact use the sugar bomb in a wide space and before it reaches the bottom row.

If you are attempting the three star based achievements then you will want to play the match-3 levels in "normal" mode, but normal mode has some tight move limitations. Be prepared to play some of these match-3 levels over and over to achieve three stars.

Sticky Situation
If you keep your head on straight you will probably find all the collectible stickers by the time you reach level 100; however, it appears to be completely random, so if not, you will simply have to keep replaying levels. Don't forget to click on the coin button to collect your reward for completing each set (I've only collected the last reward in the screen shot below).

Update: If you find a level that gives you a sticker simply play that level again (from the map) and you can get as many stickers as you need with this trick.

Shameless Plug
Before you head off, so to speak, I'd like to squeeze in a shameless plug for my book, Task's Tales, which is a 90 page collection of 16 short stories inspired by Minecraft®. You can read it for free if you have an Amazon Prime account I believe, or get it the old-fashion way in the form of a soft-cover book (look it up on Wikipedia! ha ha) or eBook. It is reasonably priced, but even just visiting the links below to peek at the book helps me out!

Kindle: Task's Tale[www.amazon.com]
Amazon: Task's Tale[www.amazon.com]

I have also posted 2 additional stories, not in the book, as guides on Steam in case you want to check them out. The link to my other guides is the next section or you can find those story guides listed under the game Minecraft Story Mode !

Concussion, uh - I mean Conclusion
Well it seems you've reached the end of the this guide, so it's time for me to say "Thank you!" for taking the time to read this far. I truly hope you found this guide to be informative and funny.

If you like the guide, please take a moment to rate it. You can also check out my other game guides should you ever need help getting to sleep.

Something to consider. I was stuck on the candy level for the Tractor scene for hours and hours and hours, trying to beat that. Sometimes getting down to a single zombie left with like 3 candies. But still going over the turn limit to get 3 stars... I was stuck on this for a long time, playing it over and over hoping for better RNG.

I accidently started the game over clicking new game rather than continue, soplayed all the way through again to that level... this time, I hit "dont restart engine"

and suddenly I beat that candy match level with 3 stars on the first try.

OMG yes, had a total mental block on that one, thanks so much for your help!

Reserve cards are your deck (not the wildcards). So pick an early level where you have 20+ cards in your deck, then clear the table with your wildcards and power up to trigger that one. Make sense?

Thank you. I try to make it worth your time. I've seen some worthless guides and don't want to fall into that category. :shockedhero:
