Welcome to gm_promontory!

This map was created to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike at Promontory Summit in Utah on May 10, 1869. It is a depiction of the barren open terrain of the west as it was during those early years westward expansion. You will find several settlements along the lines based off of real life places that existed during the construction of the railroad. If you enjoy 19th century railroading, the wild west, or just want to try standard gauge trainbuilding then this map might be for you.

Features
  • 12.5 miles of Real Standard Gauge track (using JTP)
  • 6 settlements along the mainline including 2 terminus towns.
  • 8 buildsheds with portals to spawn and occupied lights
  • 1 huge trestle to drive majestically over

While I am releasing this to the public, there is still some work to be done with scenery and visual bugs. I appreciate your patience as I work these out.

    Alternative uses for the map
  • Car racing
  • Plane racing
  • Wild West RP

gm_promontory_loop is a TP3 single layer model railroad style layout using elements of the original map. Enjoy!

    Common Questions for Joe
Q:Will sligwolfs and CBH prebuilt trains work on this map?
A: No they do not. They are configured for PHX gauge. It’s wider and what you will find on other maps (for now) There is nothing wrong with those prebuilt vehicles but this map was made specifically for train builders. There are a dozen servers that have people who can teach you.

Q:Then what am I supposed to run on this?
A: Your own prop built trains. Magnum’s, Grove’s, Bobster’s, Rikas’,and my own prop packs have standard gauge bogies and wheels.

    Q: That’s not fair!
    A: Thats not a question.

I don't know why the tracks are errors, the paths are correct, only the slashes differ... I think some investigation is warranted.
