When the American troops reached France in WW1,they didn't have a light machine gun,so they bought French 1915 Chauchat machine rifles,and modified some to fire the .30-06 round.Those rifles were less reliable than the French Chauchats,and,by the end of the war,most were destroyed,but not all.
Some French Chauchats were captured by the Germans in WW2.

WW2 collection because that's the name of the project, in reality we also have WW1 and pre WW1 guns

No, it was the Americans who converted perfectly fine French guns

yes french were stupid enough and ignored how many problems this had and used this in ww2 is basically what you are saying.

We merged them, basically
