Important information

With the latest version of Gigiauz's Uniforms and Heraldry of the Greenskins I feel like this variation mod has become obsolete: All the major reasons I wanted to make it have now been addressed in the original mod, and I think its the definitive version of Greenskins uniforms and the one I myself want to be using from now on. As such, this mod will likely not be receiving updates from now on - I may revisit it if I get a great idea for an update but I make no promises on that. You can still use this mod if you so prefer and I will keep it on Workshop, but it won't get updates for the newer Greenskins faction, two of which are playable (and look great with the original mod).

Mod information

The new (2019) version is live, with all the awesome new shields and other changes Gigiauz made and ihku47's Colour Variation Edition never caught up with, mainly those cool new shields each Greenskins faction got. Plus some new variations I made: All bow before the fanatic headwear!

This is my second aesthetically modified version of Gigiauz's brilliant reskin mod for the Greenskins, found here. Reading up on the changes he made is important in understanding what this mod does, and what it does differently. And please, if you enjoy my versions of the mod go subscribe to the original for long enough to give it a thumbs up and consider making a donation: Gigiauz is the one who put all the work in to create the new visuals. I merely adjusted how and if they appear to better suit my own tastes.

Why upload a second version and not just update the old one? There's some changes here not everyone might like, so I wanted for the old version to stay available to serve different preferences. If you wish to check out my original mod, you can find it here.

Note: Use only one of my mods or the original at a given time. Their values conflict and this will likely cause problems.

What this mod does

Orcs will no longer wear blue clothes - though to be fair, they don't seem to in the up-to-date version of Gigiauz's mod either. Additionally they no longer wear pale shirts, which they definitely still do in the original. Red, armor and brown now dominate the overall look of the orcs. See the screenshots above to get an idea of what they look like.

Goblin infantry only use the smaller shields from Gigiauz's mod, making them visually closer to vanilla but retaining whatever changes Gigiauz made to those shields. At the time of uploading I haven't tested how these changes affect the Red Eye tribe - I assume they're in the clear but let me know if they're not.

Unlike in the original ihKu47's colour variation edition, night goblin RoR melee infantry units are untouched. More of this in the "Why" section.

Squig hoppers now use a mix of head pieces from several night goblin RoR units, making them more colourful and distinctive than the night goblin infantry.

Night goblin fanatics (both infantry and ranged) now sport a wider variety of headwear, making them more visually distinctive than regular night goblin mobs but not quite as distinctive as the squig hoppers.

Da Rusty Arrers RoR now only use the darker variant of their head pieces, eliminating the pale faces that came with the paler hats.

Why it does it - for the curious

I like to use Soul's All Factions Officers Revival when I play, and back in the day when I used Sebidee's and Ado's All Factions Officers I noticed the orc officers' clothing became distinctively pale coloured when Gigiauz's Uniforms and Heraldry of the Greenskins was active. Eliminating the two colours made the officers easier to look at back then and I thought the orc mobs themselves looked a bit more in line with the Greenskins faction colours as well, which I liked. Because I've used these colour variations for a long time now, I want to keep using them even though I've never tested if the officer colouring issues persist. If it ain't broke and you like it, why change it?

Similarly, though I liked the symbols on Gigiauz's larger goblin shields and that they gave the gobbos more variety, I'm set in my ways and prefer my goblins with smaller, less defensive looking and less brightly coloured shields.

Although I stand by my previous decision to give night goblin RoR units proper night goblin shields, over time I've noticed that RoR units are one of the favourite units for unit modders to mod and quite often these modifications include visual changes, which the user might want to enjoy instead of the more vanilla look. Additionally, since neither Da Eight Peak Loonies nor Da Warlord's Boyz are mentioned in the lore outside of Total War: Warhammer games, their appearance isn't as set in stone as perhaps that of some other units', so I care less about what they look like. With these two points in mind, I decided to leave the night goblin RoRs unaffected.

Though Gigiauz's squig hopper head pieces stick closer to the lore and official art work, I found myself missing the crazy looking pinkish hoods of the vanilla models. The squig hoppers are among the wildest and craziest night goblins out there (you have to be to even think about riding a squig), and if you couple that with their status as armour piercing cavalry, they're their own elite class of Greenskins. Thus some of the hoppers don pink while others go for that Warlod's Boyz visual: It's only fitting they wear hoods that fit both their status and nature – while looking quite spiffy on the squigs to boot!

Night goblin fanatic mobs are, to the best of my understanding, at least almost as wild and crazy as the squig hoppers. The fanatics themselves are of course completely out of it thanks to the Mad Cap brew, but I'd argue the lore suggests only the craziest and most foolhardy night gobbos would join a mob with spinning giant chain ball flinging lunatics in them. I wanted to represent that with a close to the lore garb, so the night goblin fanatic mobs have a higher frequency of visually striking hoods adopted from the melee night goblin RoR units. Though this makes the RoRs maybe a little less special, they're still the only units with a look that's both striking and almost uniform (minor variations are included, as you know). This still shows their special status as superior elite forces, so I consider it a worthwhile trade to making da boyz overall look more interesting.

Da Rusty Arrers originally had two kinds of hoods, a paler and a darker version. While I liked the pale hood's colour, it gave the Arrers a much paler face as a side effect. This didn't sit well with my sense of aesthetics. While I will kinda miss the pale pink hoods, and pay homage to it in the cover image of this mod, at least Da Rusty Arrers will now be a propa shade of green.

Updated, should show up as up-to-date in the launcher now. Even if it doesn't, the mod should work perfectly with the latest version of the game.

Updated, though the Workshop page doesn't show it. In my launcher it seems fine though. Please let me know if there's any issues and I'll try to upload it again.
