I crop the image file directly (either using basic photo viewer or photoshop), save, and then just copy paste that into the thumbnail folder. If you wanted to keep the original file, you can save the cropped one onto a spare screenshot.

Be sure to close and reopen steam for the changed screenshots to reflect before you upload them! Hope that helped! :ss3dheart2:
