Tariffs and Trading Writ

Description
This mod is based on a comment from Chris Hunt, the creator of Kenshi, duing the recent AMA on reddit.

"I usually trade and wander and get into scrapes, I think that's the most fun way to play. I frown upon mining as an income source. In the future I might make it harder, like rival miners or town guards demanding you have a mining licence or something."

This got me thinking, we already have the tools to make this possible in the FCS. So I set up a tariff on copper.

What this mod does is add dialogue triggers to shop keepers and united city gate guards to stop you if you have copper in your inventory.

The gate guards will search your bag, and if you have any copper, they will demand 5000 cats as a tariff on the copper. The tariff is waved if you have a copper trading writ, which can be purchased from Yamdu at Trader's edge. You can also try to bribe the guards to let you through or run away.

Merchants will now refuse to trade with you if you have copper, unless you have a copper trading writ. You can also try to bribe them to let you trade anyways.

The main goal of this mod is to remove the easy money that copper mining provides in the early game and hopefully add a little complexity to the trading systems. If this mod proves popular, I'll expand it to include other resources, implement different tariffs for different factions, and make it so that most traders require a license before trading.

I really like this idea! I wonder if you'd be keen to implement tariffs across the nations a lot more that would be awesome!!

I think this is a great idea and I would love to see you expand on this.

Great idea, it would be amazing if you turned this into a looting/trading overhaul that makes getting cats much harder, because i end up with 500k+ cats in two hours thanks to all those ancient labs, and the game immediately becomes boring.

I hear the price on Iron just went up...

Interesting. I set copper and raw iron to not be trade items in my game to make selling them not worth it. This is more "immersive" you could say.

A good mod indeed, but I know other, easier means to get early game dosh.

I do agree with abquintess about how it would be neat to implement something like this for grog and such. It never really made sense to me how none of the factions ever thought to put a tariff on alcohol, seeing as you can easily exploit the Holy Nation's discount on it.

i dont cos I remember the locations of over half the ruins you can easy loot lol only time i mine is to get iron for strengh training as ive rarely done a playthrough long enough to base build properly this mod would be good for begining players just starting out butlike i said would love to see a version that taxes booze luxerys as its a good money earner and it would expand a criminal playthough kinda as you could be a rum runner instead of just a hash smuggler lol

I picked copper because that is one of the first things people mine when they are starting out to get cats. This makes it harder to exploit that in the early game. It is easy enough to add more items to the tariffs, but I kinda wanted to see what people thought of the idea.
