p0kiehl's Norway Rework
This mod is a rework of Norway. The civilization ability, inspired by an idea from Reddit poster lagaboter1, is more focused on terrain bonuses to reflect Norway's connection with both the mountains and the sea. The leader ability maintains Harald's raiding bonuses, but removes the ship building bonuses. Instead, Harald has bonuses to Harbor and Commercial Hub construction to reflect his important economic and trading reforms, and gets gold from combat victories to reflect the vast wealth he accumulated in war.

The Viking Longship is unchanged, but the Berserker is now a Swordsman replacement, with appropriate changes to combat strength, cost, and prerequisite Technology. It is also now purchased with Faith.

Finally, the Stave Church is no longer a building in the Holy Site - it is now its own Unique Improvement with fun adjacency bonuses!

Civilization Ability: From Sea to Summit
  • City Centers gain +1 Faith and +1 Production for each adjacent Water tile.
  • Sea resources receive +1 of the appropriate yield from specialty districts within 3 tiles.
  • Tiles with Breathtaking Appeal provide +1 Culture and +1 Food when adjacent to Water tiles.

Leader Ability: Thunderbolt of the North
  • +50% Production towards Harbors and Commercial Hubs.
  • Combat victories grant Gold equal to 50% of the Combat Strength of the defeated unit.
  • All naval melee units can perform coastal raids.
  • Pillaging or raiding Mines grants bonus Science.
  • Pillaging or raiding Camps, Quarries, Pastures, and Plantations grants bonus Culture.
  • Gain the Viking Longship unique unit after unlocking the Sailing technology.

Unique Improvement: Stave Church
  • No longer a Holy Site building! Now, it's a unique improvement constructed by Builders!
  • Unlocked at Mysticism.
  • +1 Faith. +0.5 Housing. Cannot be built next to another Stave Church.
  • +1 Faith for each adjacent Mountain.
  • +1 Food for each adjacent Sea resource or Natural Wonder tile.
  • +1 Production for each adjacent Woods tile.
  • +1 Gold for each adjacent Water tile.

Unique Unit: Berserker
  • Now a Swordsman replacement that is unlocked at Iron Working. Cost and Combat Strength reduced accordingly.
  • Same bonuses as before: +10 Combat Strength when attacking and -5 Combat Strength when defending.
  • Purchased with Faith.

Leader Unique Unit: Viking Longship
  • Unchanged.

why do people who mod norway always forget that they can sail on the ocean with shipbuilding. They always get rid of that ability.

Is this causing crashes or compatibilty issues for others? Pity, because I think this is a great adjustment and makes them more interesting and accurate and wantable in a game. Otherwise they are just an evil monster coming to devour you. The seaborne version of the Aztecs. The are Godzilla version of -- you get the point.

Thanks for the mod, though, good stuff.

I'm not getting any production or faith in city centres from being adjacent to water. Please Help?

Longship no longer capable of fortifying until healed outside of friendly territory. Also can't pillage barbarian camps on shores. Imagine my disappointment on turn 45 of a marathon game when my attempt to enter the sanguine pact failed horribly because my longship had been neutered. Please fix.

Any chance of an update? Not sure if the issues commented would cause problems mid-game, but these changes look pretty solid.

Needs to be updated for the April 2021 update (Berserker should replace Man-at-Arms and it got a small combat buff).
