How to: Community Translations
By Kurouzu
This guide explains how to create a translation of Grey Hack and publish it in Steam Workshop.

The tools needed to create translations are included in the game, although you can edit the json file that contains the texts directly if you wish.

Initially the Editor only allows one translation per user, although later it will be improved to allow several translations to be managed simultaneously.

Because the game is in Alpha phase, some texts are not yet included in the translation system (mainly parts of the UI). You will also see that there are some texts included in the translation tool that are not currently being used in the game. This belongs to parts of the game under development.

As an important note, any text of this type:
[YEAR], [ATTACHMENT], [ADDRESS], etc, doesn't have to be translated. These are keys that the game uses to build missions, mails, etc.

Since during the development of the game texts can change here you can check the latest changes made on GitHub[github.com]

Enabling the Translation Editor
To enable the editor, open the game and click on the option Languages > Enable Editor

Now you can start a game as you normally would. Although you can use the Editor in Multiplayer mode, it is recommended to use this tool in Single Player mode, to avoid distractions from other players ;)

Opening the Editor
Once the desktop has loaded, you will see that there is a new icon in the upper right of the bar.

Click once to open the editor.

NOTE: No more than one open window of this program is allowed.

Adding new language
Right now the program only shows the default language, English.
Click on the create language icon and enter the language name in the field.

Then click on the add button.

The new language has been created. If you click on the add language button again you can change the name of the language you initially created.

You can browse the different texts with the arrows or you can also search for the key by clicking on the name of the key text.

Editor Details
As you can see all the fields of the new language are empty. It is not necessary that you translate all the fields to test or publish the translations, since the game makes a fallback towards the texts in English if the field of the new language is empty.

The editor automatically saves the added texts, but you can also use the manual save option.

Color tool

Some texts, especially those used in the Manual, have some colored keywords. You can add the manual color by writing the tag this way <color = red> mytext </color> but it is recommended to use the color tool.

When you click on the tool, a new column is displayed showing the colors that are currently being used in the game. Enter in each field the words you want to highlight, when you finish click on Apply changes. This is important since colors are not saved automatically.

Preview translation

You can apply your language and see the changes in the game at any time. Some programs may have to be restarted to show the new language. Remember that if a text is empty, the game shows the default English language text.

Copy translation path

Use this option to copy to the game clipboard, and to your real OS, the path where the json file is located that will be uploaded to the steam workshop.
Publish Translation to Workshop
When everything is ready click on the publish button.

It will be indicated in this window if the translation you are going to publish is new or an update of a previously published one.

Enter the title of the workshop article, for example the name of the language and its description.
Finally click on Publish.

Using a community translation.
To use a translation already published in the steam workshop in the game, simply subscribe to the desired language from the Steam client or website.

Then open the game and click on the Languages option. Wait a few seconds for the new language to load in the list and select it.
Additional notes
You can find the default English language json file in the same path where your translation file (clipboard option) is stored, in its parent folder "ConfigMod".

In this same path there is also the file with the information of the highlighted keywords used in the editor.

And finally, feel free to report any bug or suggestion to improve the tool!
