Must have buried the map maker too!
To be clear, I'm fairly sure this is only a problem due to a placement mistake that I can only hope will be fixed soon.

Part one and part two of the map in the room you found is fine. If you're like me me, it's part three that's super confusing. The way I managed to proceed onward is as follows:

1. Pull the levers in the order listed on the map. It looks like it's drawing a line, but you only have to pull the four on the pillar that have a mark on them.

2. Once you do this, four torches will raise from the ground in area 2. Light only the north torch, and the east one. That's the torch on the opposite side of the pillar room door, and opposite the map room door.

3. This one took me forever, but I managed to find a solution that works, though it may not be the right one. In the middle of the compass rose, directly above is a wooden platform. Though it's hard to see, on the platform is one of those target switches. For some reason, this target is laying on it's side- I'm guessing it was placed wrong by a dev.

If you got out to the pillar switch room, you should be able to just barely clip the target with the slingshot, lowering the door and letting you continue!

Good luck with the rest of the game!

Based on the comments I got, it seems likely it just bugged out for me- It's been many years since I posted this. I tried all the permutations possible (including what turned out to be the correct one), and none worked. This guide just recorded what I did to move onwards at the time- seeing as I effectively cheated the puzzle, it wouldn't surprise me if they fixed it so you can no longer do this. Hopefully they also fixed the glitch >_>

Yeah, step 2 is wrong here.. Should light north and east, and makes next step easier as intended.
But thanks for helping me solve step 1 XD

Old guide, so maybe it was bugged back in the days ^^

You don't actually have to be in the side-chamber to hit the target, you can hit it from on top of the pile of sand on the wall opposite the side-chamber entrance. I'm not sure if the devs made a mistake somewhere along the line or if they intentionally made the last step of the puzzle broken (i.e. it's supposed to be broken in-universe) to make it more difficult. Otherwise you'd just be following instructions, which wouldn't really make it much of a puzzle.

Yeah, the last step is hard to understand.

@Merethys This guide is helpful, your vague and seemingly pointless critique is not. If you know an "intended" solution, feel free to share, because after trying different torch combination, this is the only thing that worked both for guide's author and myself.

You don't make any sense. Of course you have to use the ingame compass. What else would you use? What would be the point of that compass, if not being used?

You could at least acknowledge your mistake. Your method might work, but that doesn't change the fact that it is not the intended solution to the puzzle.

@Merethys From where I am standing, I am standing on the south torch, looking at the north torch- At least, based on the fact that the compass rose on the ground has a "larger" outline that direction, normally denoting north on a compass rose. If that is the case, I'm lighting both North and east.

I think what you're implying is that you need to use whatever direction is closest to the compass North indicated by the in game compass. My issue with that statement is that it's currently pointing between both torches, and didn't line up properly to either. Before I managed to shoot the switch, I actually tried all four directions with both lit, so I considered it not to work regardless.

Again, feel free to use whatever works for you- the point is that shooting the target worked for me, and I found it far quicker then messing around back in the days where no other guides existed to this puzzle.

Your solution for step 2 is wrong. You have to light the torch opposed to the pillar room (east) and the one left of it (north). In your picture you have lit east and south. That's probably why step 3 didn't work properly for you either.

@pryma I tried both that, and firing that amount of arrows at the pillar, with little success. Maybe I did something wrong in the step part- it's nice to at least have the option if you can't get it to fire right ;)
