First and foremost, we will need to decide what game we will make a map for

In this case, i will be choosing Garry's Mod. On the image below you can see I've already found my game (which i already searched)



















BUT DO NOT FRET, as this can be easily achievable with the help of your mouse scroll wheel, or by clicking AND DRAGING the scrolling bar at the side of your game list





























You can also easily find you desired game by clicking in the magnifying glass and typing the name of the game

Finding the place where the Hammer Editor is allocated is not a very difficult task, but you may get lost in other parts of your computer.
By following the steps bellow you will be able to access any game files you want in the blink of an eye


STEP ONE:NAVIGATING THE MENUS










And you will be presented with the following box













In this particular box you must locate the "Manage" option (as show in the image below)














Once you hover your mouse over "Manage", a drop down list will appear




















STEP TWO:CHOOSING THE CORRECT OPTION


Once you find yourself here choose the LAST OPTION and left click it

First, take a look at the folders name (remember that for every game is different, garry's mod only has 4 main folders)

















and find the one labeled "bin".






Inside this folder you will be (if you weren't before) petrified at the immense list of files.
now we have to search our map editor and creator program called Hammer.





This can be done the same way we found our game before:

SCROLLING

SEARCH BAR















STEP THREE:AVOIDING TRAPS


After choosing your own preffered search function you will find more than 1 (one) file labeled "Hammer". DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS, the file we are after has "Exe" next to it (followed by a .).











CONCLUSION

After successfully avoiding the traps you are now able to begin mapping. Double click (left click) Hammer and you will be good to go and being your mapping adventure, in one of the oldest and archaic map making tools.
But it is a good tool nonetheless so i shall honor my love for it. Thanks Gaben.

THE GAME I WANT IS NOT IN MY LIST, WHAT DO I DO?


This is a very recurrent problem and it happens when you haven't bought your game of choice yet.


I DON'T SEE ANY GAMES ON MY LIBRARY, WHAT DO I DO?


Like the previous question this happens when you don't buy your games. Remember that games bought on other platforms will not appear on steam (on play station 4 for example).


I AM UNABLE TO SELECT THE DROP DOWN MENU, WHAT DO I DO?


This happens when you move your mouse too quickly over the menus, causing them to collapse again. I recommend changing the sensibility of your mouse so you can have a better chance with those menus.


I HAVE ACCIDENTALLY CHOSEN ANOTHER OPTION INSTEAD OF THE ONE YOU TOLD ME, WHAT DO I DO?


Like i said in the walktrough above, you don't need to fear, this is also very common, and you can easily fix it by restarting steam and trying again. Remember that the option we need is "Browse local files".
In the case that you chose "Uninstall" then i'm afraid you have uninstalled your game, causing the game to be deleted from your computer, which prevents the acces from Hammer because Hammer will not be present.
If this happen to you then i'm afraid i cannot be of help.


I HAVE FAILED THE OBSERVATION PART, WHAT DO I DO?


If you failed the observation then you might need to restart the whole walktrough since some of the following steps might not work.


I HAVE CHOSEN THE WRONG FOLDER, WHAT DO I DO?


Don't panic, just be sure to click the Arrow at the top left, as shown in the image below:


















I HAVE FALLEN INTO A TRAP, WHAT DO I DO?


First, keep calm, overreacting might lead to an even bigger problem.
Second, make sure to keep your hands off your keyboard and mouse
Now take your time and search your screen for a RED cross (usually found at the top right of the window) in the window that popped.
If the cross is not there then and you see no window then there is nothing to fear, just approach your PC slowly and turn it off....then turn it on again and you should be good to go.


I OPENED Hammer BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT AM I LOOKING AT, WHAT DO I DO?


Don't worry, neither do i, but you can try and apply what you learned on this walktrough. Everything comes to dragging, scrolling or searching really so go in and start dragging those bars.
