Introduction:
This game is basically an online only role playing action video game. First thing to do is to take your time in completing the story The story isn't bad, try to read or hear the collectables, you will have better understanding of the story. After completing the campaign and reaching level 30, the core part of this game opens up and it revolves around the endgame activities . This guide assumes that you have completed the story and reached level 30. You also get field profiency cache as you level up beyond level 30 and these also give endgame items.
Types of sets:
There are 2 types of sets:
- Non-Classified set - They can give upto 4 piece bonus
- Classified set - They can give upto 6 piece bonus, hence these sets are preferred. They also have a folder icon next to their name for easy identification as in the picture shown below
Endgame activities:
Now that you have reached the Endgame, Your aim is to collect sets so that you can kill enemies easily. There are 14 gear sets (more on that later) which can be used based on your preferences. These sets are farmed using the endgame activities. After reaching Level 30 you will be in World tier 0 which is based on your gear score your aim is to reach World tier 5 as quick as possible ie have 256+ gear score. To achieve this you need to play all the missions in either hard or challenging to get higher gear item. I suggest you to use global chat for help because if you join a 256+ player playing in a World tier 5 leads to higher gear score drops. An experienced division agents can solo missions in challenging difficulty with ease and you can ask them to share the items they don't want as all those in World Tier 5 will go for classified or niche items, they will drop high end items which can be used to increase your gear score. You can add me and join when I am online i will help you too
Legendary missions:
There are 7 missions that have legendary difficulty. They are
- Times Square Power Relay
- Napalm Production Site
- WarrenGate Power Plant
- Amherst's Apartment
- Grand Central Station
- Madison Field Hospital
- General Assembly

Once per week these missions will award the player with an Exotic Cache for completing them. Missions like Amherst's apartments and Madison field hospital has a high chance for a hunter spawn in the end who will drop an exotic items upon killing him. So you should try for these missions to get the required exotic items. They also reward players with random items upon completion which can give you a classified items.
Incursions:
They are considered among the most difficult Player VS Environment (PvE) content in the game, similar in difficulty and impact to endgame "raids" in other games. There are 4 incursion missions that are available
- Falcon Lost
- Clear Sky
- Dragon's Nest
- Stolen Signal

Once per week these missions will award the player with an Exotic Cache for completing them. They are available at 2 difficulties,Challenging and Heroic where heroic difficulty has higher outcome for classified and exotic drops.
LZ Bosses:
LZ means "Light Zone" This is the open world area where you play the game. These Bosses have a higher chance to drop classified and exotic items and can be done Solo. There are 15 named bosses whose locations are marked in the image below. They spawn every 4 hrs once after you killed them. So the ideal thing is to do is to farm the bosses first when you start playing for the day and do other activities.
Assignments:
The game gives daily and weekly assignments which rewards you with their respective caches which gives items along with Div Techs. This is a great way to farm Div Techs.
- Daily assignments consists of combat, crafting, darkZone and survival assignments and they are different daily. Crafting cache gives items along with crafting materials and DZ cache Darkzone credits along with items. All these caches give 25 Div Techs. Each assignment have 24 hrs time limit to complete them.
- Weekly assignments consists of Weekly, underground and survival. These caches give 100 Div Techs along with high end/classified gear and an exotic item. All these weekly assignments have 4 different objectives to complete them within a time limit of 7 days
West Side Piers:
West Side Pier is a completely separate area from the map, as it is designed to be different than the rest of the game. This place hosts resistance mode locations and randomly generated predetermined tasks. In the area, all the enemy factions are friendly to each other and only hostile toward the agent, unlike areas outside of WSP, where enemy factions will fight each other on sight. Enemies will randomly spawn in WSP, constantly keeping the agents alert.
There are multiple missions/tasks that are given randomly:
- Courier Intercept (Destroy Delivery Drones before they reach their final destination. 30 second time limit on arrival.)
- Neutralize Lieutenants (Eliminate three faction leaders gathering together, scattered throughout WSP.)
- Eliminate the SHD Tech Jammer (Destroy a Veteran Skill Jammer in an area, radius of about 50 meters.)
- Enemies are Gathering (Clear 3 waves of mixed enemy forces; the third wave consists of one named enemy.)
- Unauthorized Access (Prevent enemies from hacking into the SHD system. 90 second time limit.)
Completing these tasks can result in Experience Points, along with 1 High End Gear/Weapon and 3 Division Tech. In addition, Named Enemies and Courier Drones all have a chance for Exotic or Classified Gear Set drops. So it is advisable to do courier missions when they are available.
Resistance:
Resistance is a game mode. Resistance is The Division's take on a "horde mode" game type as in Gears of War or like COD Zombies Mode. It features every enemy faction joining forces to eliminate the agents of the Division. It should be noted these game modes are considered "Endless" in their difficulty selection. This means that there is no selection of difficulty to make it easier or harder for the agent, except through changing the World Tier. There are 3 resistance maps,
- Carrier
- Pier 93
- Powerhouse
This mode requires high communicative skills to coordinate as the waves get more difficulty as you progress. You get a resistance cache for every 5 waves and loot from the bosses you kill in-between the waves. From 15th wave onwards you get hunter bosses who have higher chance to drop classified and exotic items. For each enemies you kill you get shd tech and you can use those in the resistance reward cache to get classified or exotic items. The resistance reward cache has higher chance for classified drops than other modes. For solo players it is possible to farm resistance till wave 10 and use the shd tech for rewards. Please note as more player joins the price of rewards increases so doing solo or in duo where one can share items is the easiest way to get more rewards for the time spent. Play in World Tier 5 for best rewards
Underground DLC:
The Underground is a Player VS Environment (PvE) focus, agents are recruited to explore the sprawling network of tunnels underneath Manhattan in what amounts to randomized, procedurally-generated dungeons. Players can set multiple different modifiers on an Underground operation to make the run more difficult but net them greater rewards as a result. These missions can be played in single phase which requires 10 -15 mins of your time or 3 phases which requires 45 mins of your time but has a higher probability of hunter spawn who can be killed for exotic or classified items. The quality of loot increases at challenging difficulty At the end of each phase there will be a boss spawn who upon killed can net you classified or exotic items. There are 2 difficulties
- Hard
- Challenging which nets you higher rewards
As a new player i suggest you to use matchmaking or invite option to form a group to do challenging missions with modifiers on as they can be relatively difficult compared to other missions due to modifiers affecting you.
Survival DLC:
In this game mode you are dropped into Manhattan with no weapons or gear and you have to scavenge for everything while battling cold, hunger, thirst as well as human enemies. The game maintains a time counter (around 1hr) in the form of infection and you have to take medicine to stop the timer for a while. when the timer runs out you die. The goal is to get to dark zone and extract. It has both PvP and PvE. You can choose whether you want PvE or PvP so PvP is optional. There are bosses in The DZ who will drop survival cache upon killed. You need to extract to open those caches to get rewards. Personally I ask you to check some tutorials so you have an idea what this mode is about. Pretty fun, but the rewards aren't that great. Its purely for your fun play or for commendation. If you have this mode i suggest you to give it a try. It will be extremely difficult for a couple of playthroughs till you know how this game mode works, Then it will be very enjoyable.
Last Stand DLC:
The Pure PvP mode. In this game mode players of each team must score points within a certain time limit. The team with higher score at the end wins. The stats are balanced in this mode to maintain fairness in the game as some players can have really overpowered build.
You get rewarded for wins with a last stand cache. The rewards are mediocre though. It is purely to test your builds or to play PVP. But recently the servers are empty and it takes forever to find a game.
The darkZone:
The area which every new comer avoids due to PvP elements Rogues . There are 9 DZ Zones where enemies difficulty scales higher as you go to higher zones. DZ supply drops aren't a terrible way to try your luck on some endgame gear. There are landmarks consists of Bosses and some enemies which spawns approx every 14 mins so you can farm these areas for classified or exotic gear. DZ landmarks (alongside tech caches spread throughout the DZ) are a pretty good way to get division tech. There are sealed caches around map which you can give loot,DZ credits and some DIV techs. There will be contamination events that occur at certain period of time in subway underground areas where there will be bosses who have high chance of dropping good loots but beware these events drain your life slowly till the bosses are killed so its wise to stay away from them till you get nomad or striker gear set or do it with other friends. If you want to avoid PVP as much as possible, stay away from lower DZ areas. You can still play in these areas but should be cautious all the time. The secret is checking your surrounding, learning cues that indicate other players might be around (such as nearby landmarks being cleared out even though it wasn't you who did it),checking the chat area and the messages that are displayed when a player is killed by a rogue and be careful when extracting if you plan on taking anything with you. It is wise to launch the extraction then go away and wait till last 15 to 20 seconds to put the loot in the rope as this doesn't give sufficient time for rogue players to react or they will be busy in fighting the enemies that have come so you can decide whether to extract or run away but bear in mind there will be enemies who came to extraction zone once you start extraction so its better to launch the flare near to the entrance or a place where you can come back and hook the loot safely. If you're in DZ there's no way to keep you away from PVP at all times. Especially if you extract when the DZ is highly populated because then potential rogues will just fast travel to a safe house near you and attack you. That happened to me all the time in earlier days but it was easier to extract from higher DZ areas. Then there is another way to get items that is to survive manhunts. After you got the gear and confidence you can go rogue and kill sufficient player to reach manhunt levels and once you finish manhunt objective you are rewarded based on the number of agents you killed.
Conclusion:
This guide is prepared by me after spending 700+hrs in the game. It is not a perfect guide and its possible i may have left out some details so any suggestions are welcome. My aim is to provide a guide to the new players struggling to understand the endgame activities in this game. Hope this guide helps both newcomers as well as veteran agents. See you all in New York Agents. Ghostgg10 signing off.

Also, usually people try to spec into firearms exclusively, or spread out their stats. My best advice I can give you is make loadouts specializing in one thing. I've had people gawk at just how much healing a reclaimer techie can do (29,000/s!!). Or the size of the HP pool of a mobile cover. My normal DZ loadout is a strong mix of Toughness, primarily, and Firearms. I use Three pieces of the Nomad set, with one piece of the AlphaBridge set, and the Ninjabike Backpack, and Ferro's Oxygen Mask.

I strongly recommend looking up how U.S. Snipers or even guerillas operate, it's really good knowledge for the DZ. I've sat right next to people as they ran past, while hiding behind a barrier or a some kind of concealment, many many times. Everyone runs everywhere in the DZ, you can usually get away with some repositioning if it's done in short little movements.

Hey, StalkerBarghest (on uplay) here. I'm a vet for this game, I played on launch and got to stand in a line at the tutorial area that started at the end of the block. Really good guide here. I'm honestly happy to answer any other questions here. You also make me want to update my DZ guide and add onto it for Survival and Underground, the two DLC modes I played the sh*t out of.
the Dark Zone is honestly much more interesting at lower levels. If you max out your virus protection stats, the lower levels become easier because you can raid the virus areas and use them as a safe reprieve from other players. I have a character I made just for playing DZ like that.
