Balanced Asteroids 2

Description
Mod Information
Starbound Versions: 1.4
Mod Version: 1.3

Description
Balanced Asteroids 2 adds new planets that players can explore live on or use as mining planets. There is one planet per start tier (Gentle, Temperate, Radioactive, Frozen and Fiery Asteroids). Large clumps of ore can be found underground or on the surface of the planet. Tiered ores are always on the last two underground layers of the planet close to the core. There is a variety of hostile mobs that spawn on the planets and there are dungeons and settlements, even underground structures. There are also custom weather settings for each world that can occur on the surface of the planet making it hard to survive on some of the harsher planets. In some parts there are huge drop-offs in the caves systems that can kill the player if not explored properly, it's advised not to dig straight down but more on an angle to prevent falling You can use ash, gravel or sand to get down faster.

To Common Issue
After many tries to get the biomes rarer, I think its safe to say that I don't think there is a way to control the spawn rate of a given planet. Through testing very low weight settings I have not need any change in them spawning.

I think it would be more productive to try to focus on main issue people are having with the planets be so common, I would like to know what part exactly the issue is with planets being so common so I can try to find a way to tackle issues that could be resolved through other ways.

Mod Compatibility Issues
  • There is an issue with games running without TrueSpace (Will be fixed in the next update.)

Future Update 1.4
June 15, 2021
I sadly lost all my progress on the update that I was working on before I updated my hard drive for more space for windows updates and ended up formatting the wrong drive with all my files. I did start working on a smaller update in the mean time to get back into modding for Starbound. I will be fixing a issue from the current version where games without TureSpace may encounter an issue or a crash, this was due to a issue on my end when I tried to add support for TrueSpace, I ended up just making a add-on more then adding support lol. I have a bit more testing to make sure it works still with TrueSpace, I do know it works standalone so its a good start. Also biomes will be getting some new blocks mainly new stone tiles and dirt tiles based on the biome you are in. I created a discussion with more information regarding the upcoming changes to the mod and some useful information about the material IDs for fellow mod creators.

I have been working on an update recently that will add unique structures and terrains to the asteroid planets. I have wanted to do this for some time but had to figure out how to do it. I ended up having other things that needed my attention, so I had to keep delaying the research. I have figured out that you needed Tiled a program that you can use to make structures for Starbound and, I have been learning how to use it for a couple of weeks now. There is still lots to be done, but I just thought I would announce the update as progress is coming along well.

I don't have a set release date for this update as my schedule is unpredictable, but I will make an update when it gets closer to release.

@BITney, The Pixel Heister oh yeah some problems with planet search occur, like you described it dont appears in space when you orbit it, but its not that critical (but its scary to land on unknown surface)

Yea no worries Britney, sadly I have gone to all planets and had all the planet backgrounds load in, I also tested by going down to the planet, and then rebooting the save and it seems all fine. It could be mod conflict like you mentioned. I hope this helps a bit. At least we know it's not this mod, kinda had me a bit worried after I saw the game had a patch not to long ago but seems like it's fine on my end at least.

It's my last mod installed, as I said I rlly think its something from Planet Search or derivates. Im so grateful you even installed the game to help me. <3

It started off with asteroid balancing though people wanted some other features that I did not have experience with for the asteroid world, the mechanics between asteroid and planets are vary different in some ways so I made a new mod for a planet version.

I will try a few other systems and see if I can reproduce the issue.
Have you tried uninstalling and installing the mod again, it could be a downloading issue possibly.
Either way I will take another look.

If you land on the planet and then go to orbit again seems to show the planet. I re-create again this using Planet Search and it seems its something not workling correctly that mod, because going straight to a planet, the orbit planet doesnt show until you beam down and up.

Another question is, why did you use the asteroid icon when its a planet? In the nav map you see asteroids but going to orbit its a planet, but when you beam down you see an asteroid field. Thats confusing, maybe its me not understanding something xD.

What planet exactly were you having problems with?
I tested the forest one and it seems fine.

Mod may have broken due to the fixes in November 2024 possibly. It was working before then far as I am aware, to be completely honest I have not worked on modding for this game in a long time not sure if I would be able to fix any issues with it any time soon, I don't have a lot of time these days and this mod is not exactly on the fore front of my priority list. I will download the game and try to figure out what's up with it. I can't make any promises though that I will be able to fix the issue.

The asteroids seems to generate correctly but theres no background image when you go into orbit.
