When you start the game it goes out of focus and starts with an incorrect screen resolution (the correct format is 4:3), and within the game there are no options to change the screen resolution.

After following this guide you will have a perfect high res game in 4:3 that you can launch normal through steam. With maybe an option to run it in window mode (this doesn't work for everyone).

TESTED ON WINDOWS 10

Firs you need to download the program "dgVoodoo2":

Just download "dgVoodoo vX.XX - for regular usage" ignore all the rest (x.xx being the latest version number).
Unzip this and open the folder.

Open the folder "MS" then "x86", which will contain four files:
"D3D8.dll", D3D9.dll","D3DImm.dll", and "DDraw.dll"
Copy and paste them in the Steam folder where the game is installed:
\ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Escape from Monkey Island

Also copy the file "dgVoodooCpl.exe" from the main folder into the same steam game folder.

Now run "dgVoodooCpl.exe":
- In the "General" section, in "Appearance" we have to change the option that appears in "Scaling mode", and select "Streched, keep Aspect Ratio". OPTIONAL: Pick "Windowed" if you want that (this won't work for everyone).
- In the "DirectX" section choose a screen resolution to make it 4:3 (1024x768 or 1280x960 works well for this). Don't pick anything that doesn't match 4:3 or all this will be for nothing...
- Also in the "DirectX" section uncheck the "dgVoodoo Watermark" tab.
- Don't enable any anti-alising or any other graphics improvement option. While this makes the characters look nice it will mess up the pre-rendered backgrounds.

After all that click "Apply" and "OK" to close the dgVoodoo.

Now every time you start the game normal through steam it will automatically launch the game with the correct screen resolution. You never need to go through this process again.

PS: Some people might get some character shadow issues in some places in the game. This is not game breaking, but you can "fix" this by going to the ingame options, then "Alter Gee Whiz Factor" and put "Shadow Effects" on Minimal.

Multi-monitor users: If you have a multi-monitor setup make sure to select your display for "Full Screen Output" or the game won't launch.

-Use a controller (xbox360 one worked for me).
-Make sure it's recognised by steam (Steam => Settings => Controller)
-Launch the game and go to the ingame options.
-Change "Movement Mode" to "Camera-Relative".
This way your character will move in the direction of your stick, so no more resident evil tank controls.
Don't forget to Configure the keys (also in options) so the D-pad on your controlller cycles objects up and down. This makes it easier to select what you want ingame.
