Description
Make Recon class better. This mod is one of the collection that changes every aspect of Recon class. Designed to work together but can be used independently.

This mod adds Policy Cards to enhance Exploration and Recon units.

New Policy Cards

This mod adds the following Military Policy Cards:

  • Early Exploration: Unlock at Code of Laws. +100% Production towards Recon units. Obsoleted by New World Exploration.
  • Survey and Discipline are now merged into Civilized Militia but the XP boost for Recon units is only 50%. Obsoleted by New World Exploration.
  • New World Exploration: Unlock at Colonialism. +100% Production towards Recon units and they gain +50% XP.
  • Spotters: Unlock at Scorched Earth. Ranged Units next to Recon units gain +1 Sight and +1 Range.


Recon class units in my opinion are in weird position. Through these mods, I want to make them into support position that can fulfill either exploration or indirect combat role. It is achieved by making them better survivors (through defensive bonus) and instead of having 20 bonus Combat for themselves (original Ambush promotion), they transfer them to their allies through Combat or Maneuver support. Below are the mods in this collection:

  • Unit: Change the Recon unit abilities and their promotion tree.
  • Policy Cards: Add/Change Policy Cards towards Recon units and exploration.
  • Road Building: Add build charges for Recon units, they can now build Roads.

Hi o/ I tried to modify the Spotters card to give extra range to Siege, Naval Range and Naval Raider units too but I failed. Can you give me any tips how to do it or add it to the policy? It would make more sense to allow ALL ranged units to shoot further since they are getting info from the recon unit

Hmmm, I don't know why that would be. I wonder if there is a different mod conflict scuppering the xp gain by tile. Welll, if it's not causing a crash I'll give them both a try on my next game and report back.

Any other thoughts or comments, observations or conflicts?

With both mods activated the xongain per uncovered tile is not working

@fka-garamel: What was your experience with the mod conflicts? I would think they shouldn't conflict because yours would establish a base for the game for how Recon units gain experience, and then that gets modified by policy cards in play.

But since I don't know much about how these things really work in Modderland i don't know.

Luke said on another mod that he is out of the Civ 6 modding and gaming thing, so I guess it's up to us to inform people going forward. What was your experience of using these in-game?

i think the expeditions policy card should be worded differently, does twice as fast training mean +%100 production?

I think it's unlikely the AI will be able to use it as there is no AI code for it.
