Zombie Wars: Invasion doesn't do a great job of providing a tutorial, which is nothing to die over given the game is fairly straight forward, but if you have not played many games in the tower defense genre there are some minor details you might not think about.

Besides, it is always nice to have at least one guide per game where you can check to see if another player has thought of something you have not. And since I already have my banner and a pile of zombie puns and jokes it seemed like a no-brainer!

I know you are dying to get started so let's see what tips and tricks we can dig up!

Use It or Lose It
You start each level with some gold, and you earn additional gold by eliminating zombies trying to invade your base. However, the gold accumulated during the level does not carry over to the next level, so use it or lose it. If you have the gold available during a level it is in your best interest to spend it.

For example, in the screen shot below, notice that the upper left displays the gold available to be used in the level (303), while the gold in the upper middle (200) is the gold available for upgrading towers or buying power-ups. Finally, the gold that you earn as a reward for completing the level is shown in the center of the screen (80). This means that I will now have a total of 280 that I can spend on upgrades and power ups

As you can see I was trying to conserve my gold from the level thinking it increased my "spending" gold so I could upgrade towers and turrets more quickly. Alas, that is not the case.

A Win Is A Win
You can't win them all (well, maybe you are much better than I am and can) but even if you let some zombies bypass your defenses, go a head and continue playing as you will still earn some gold, assuming you are not completely defeated, which may give you enough for an upgrade! Then you can go back for the 3-star victory.

More Power To Ya
Zombie Wars features two types of "power ups". I'm going to refer to these items as power ups, even if that is not the most accurate word as I am sure you will understand what I am talking about.

The first type of power up are unlimited and free, even though there is a short recharge rate between usages. These are shown on bottom left of the screen (see image below), and include soldier, air strike and land mine. There may be additional items that I have not encountered yet.

The second type of power-up, which is accessible from the bottom right of the screen - the lightning bolt - is limited and costly, so use them sparingly. Dynamite, Ice Bomb and Laser. You can purchase them in-level or on the map screen.

Use Your Head
Zombie Wars normally introduces any new type of zombie before or as it is included in an attacking horde. An icon will appear on the left edge informing you of a new type of zombie. Click on it for details.

Be wary when building your defenses. The rocket launcher turret, which is specifically for flying units, will become available to build several levels before any flying zombies are included in the waves. At least for normal battles, the flying units did not appear until around level 6, but rocket launcher turrets around level 3. Don't waste your limited build sites and gold on a turret you will not use!

Where Did You Come From?
Most of the levels have multiple entry points for the encroaching masses, so check the level before you place your defenses. You may have to play the level once to learn what zombies you will be facing before you learn the best placement for your defenses so you can win the level with 3-stars.

By the way, starting a wave early will earn you a few extra coins that might be enough to allow you to afford that extra turret. Gauge that per wave based on how you are holding up.

I should also mention your hero, which is a pretty tough fighter that you can move around the map to compliment your defenses. Click on him so that he has focus (you will see a movement ring appear) then click where you want him to be stationed. Usually at the junction of multiple paths. Zombies will stop to fight him giving you time to take action as needed.

Upgrading
When upgrading your towers or turrets you can scroll the list by grabbing the screen (left-click and hold) to access the additional towers. This was not immediately obvious, at least to me. Upgrades don't cost an arm and a leg, but they do take winning a couple levels to afford, so choose wisely.

How can you tell when a zombie has been in your shower?
They leave their Head and Shoulders behind!
