Ramp it up! - Magic 2014 Deck Guide.
By Snackster
Welcome folks!

Here's a guide to the Chant of the Mul Daya deck and a few suggestions on how to play it in Magic 2014.
I'm going to show you guys how I prefer playing Chant of the Muldaya 1 on 1 and why I use certain cards instead of others. The statements I make in this guide are all suggestions and I'm not trying to persuade anyone to just play the deck the way/ways I suggest. I just hope you'll enjoy reading my guide and any questions or remarks are welcome. Just drop a comment below the guide and I'll answer back as soon as I can.

Deck Tech Pt. 1 - The Decklist.

Thanx for joining.

Let's get going. Here's my basic build for playing 1 on 1:

Chant of the Mul Daya, main:

Lands:
25 Forest
1 Eye of Ugin

Creatures:
4 Grazing Gladeheart
2 Farhaven Elf
1 Fierce Empath
2 Oracle of Mul Daya
1 Elvish Piper
2 Primeval Titan
1 Vigor
1 Avenger of Zendikar
1 Pelakka Wurm
2 Artisan of Kozilek
1 Pathrazer of Ulamog
1 It That Betrays

Sorcery spells:
1 Green Sun's Zenith
4 Rampant Growth
3 All Is Dust

Instants:
2 Tangle
1 Summoning Trap

Enchantments:
3 Khalni Heart Expedition
1 Eldrazi Conscription

Deck Tech Pt. 2 - The Lands.
This deck is all about getting your mana up and running so you can finish off by playing big creatures that may very well annihilate your opponents side of the board. Lands and creatures are the 2 cardtypes that this deck is built around and eventhough this deck officially is a mono-coloured deck one could could argue that it has 2 colours; green and colourless(technically colourless is not a colour(damnit!)). Ok, so it is both green and not so colourful.. -_-

Lands:
25 Forest

The reasong I use 26 and not 20 lands is you need them right from the beginning and the Forest should be your favourite card on your starting hand. Also drawing into a land early/midgame can save your butt. There are 8 different cards that have Landfall, which means they have an ability that triggers if they are in play and you drop a land. Grazing Gladeheart, Khalni Expedition and Avenger of Zendikar.

1 Eye of Ugin

Eye of Ugin is a legendary land, meaning you can only have 1 of them in play on your side of the field and it's not the best land to start with on your hand so having just 1 in the deck makes sense.
You can't tap Eye of Ugin for mana but... (!) Eye of Ugin will trigger landfall just like dropping a forest since it is a land and it has 2 abilities; 1 passive and 1 activated ability. All eldrazi spells become 2 colourless cheaper to play when Eye of Ugin is in play and you can use its tap ability to tutor for any colourless creature.
Deck Tech Pt. 3 - Creatures.

One might say that there are 2 different types of creatures in this deck. Those that help you ramp and support the early-/mid-game helping you get to the lategame stage in time for you to drop the other much bigger creatures that wins the game for you.

Creatures:
4 Grazing Gladehart

Grazing Gladehart or as I like calling him Gazing Braveheart. This guy will literally change your life(total) if he doesn't die fast. Don't attack with him though he's no Scopealope!
He's in the deck because most times he will prolong the game and he will often force out spot removal, which can be good. A great creature vs aggro based decks.

2 Farhaven Elf

Let's you ramp up and chump block incoming bad guys. No wow-card but simple and solid enough. Part of the ramp package.

1 Fierce Empath

He's an elf and he's here to help you tutor for big stuff.
Most of the times I use him to fetch Primeval Titan and sometimes Avenger of Zendikar depending on where I'm at in the game. Just use him as a chump blocker and you might be able to get him back with Artisan of Kozilek later on. ;)

2 Oracle of Mul Daya

The guy they named this deck after or..? Technically Mul Daya is a nation of elves in the Guum Forests.. so no!
Oracle of Mul Daya supports your ramp letting you drop additional lands. Since he reveals the top card of your library you also know what the next draw will be.
Hint: If you don't like what you see on top and would prefer drawing just about any other card you could trigger an Eye of Ugin on your opponents end step or use summoning trap f.ex. Just remember that as long as Oracle of M.D. is in play your opponent will also know what you are about to draw and this is not always to your advantage.
If an opponent is playing decks such as Dodge and Burn, Illusions or Up to Mischief(Fairies), they now have vital information on which spell to counter on your turn.

1 Elvish Piper

The Piper plays the flute in such annoying ways that it will haunt your opponent.. forever and ever!
Tap that Piper and SLAM a blocker down when your opponent is dumb enough to attack you or just before your turn at the end step put a biggie into play.
I only include 1 Piper since she is very easy to deal with(summoning sickness = sitting duck) before you can to tap her to use her ability.

2 Primeval Titan

He costs 6, is he worth it!? Hell yeah! He's your midgame rampdude, pulling in 2 lands at a time(Hint: Eye of Ugin fetcher) and he will keep swinging until your opponent finds a way to handle him. If he's killed he is easily revived with Artisan of Kozilek.

1 Vigor

What a nice guy. They should have named him Viggo. He's my buddy this guy; always loyal to my other guys on the battlefield supporting them so they can grow.
Keep him alive and use whatever else you have to block and attack with. You can pull off some devastating tricks if you combine him with Elvish Piper or fetch him in using Summoning Trap. Instant speed Viggo baby! ;)

1 Avenger of Zendikar

Here it comes and next turn you're dead or endless chumpblockers. It's up to you. Beating up your opponent using plants must be every vengeful gardeners dream!

1 Pelakka Wurm

Lifegain and an extra card when this guy exits(unless he's exiled). The 7 extra life can help you turn things around when in trouble.

2 Artisan of Kozilek

The solid combo Eldrazi. This guy will often work best right after your Primeval Titan gets killed or lategame when your opponent managed to kill your biggest Eldrazi.

1 Pathrazer of Ulamog

This guy; very tough to block for most decks. No need to say more, he's good.

1 It That Betrays

Don't worry in most cases it wont betray you. Unless that is, your opponent manages to steal it. Works wonders with the annihilator mechanic and All Is Dust. Whenever your opponent sac stuff It will have a smile on it's face. ;)

Deck Tech Pt. 4 - Sorcery spells and instants.

Here are a few spells that add a little extra to this deck. 3 types of spells; Ramp, utility and control. Rampant Growth is the 2 drop mana ramping spell. Simple and effective. Green Sun's Zenith and Summoning Trap makes the deck a bit more versatile. Summoning Trap can set up an ambush on your enemies turn and Green Sun's Zenith will help you pull in just the (green)creature you need the most. All Is Dust and Tangle are powerful spells that lets you control the tempo of the game.

Sorcery spells:

1 Green Sun's Zenith

4 Rampant Growth

3 All Is Dust

Almost the same as other boardwipe spells except this is alot better. If you have anything that is colourless on the board it stays there when you throw this spell down. With It That Betrays in play you get to steal the stuff your opponent sac's and sometimes that will result in an entertaining ragequit.

Instants:
2 Tangle

Just like Fog just way better. This is what keeps the smart players from attacking with everything when they see that you have 2 mana open. This card buys you 2 turns at best to pull your stuff together and win.

1 Summoning Trap

It's a trap and a cool card vs the occational counter strategy.
Deck Tech Pt. 5 - Enchantments.
The last piece of the puzzle; the enchantments.

3 Khalni Heart Expedition

Part of the ramp package. With 26 lands it's easy to trigger landfall and easyli triggered with your other ramp spells(Rampant Growth, Primeval Titan f.ex). You can combo 1 KH Expedition with another one also.

1 Eldrazi Conscription

Turning a 1/1 Elf into something quite different.. :)
Unless your opponent has instant spells ready to remove your newly found annihilator he will most likely be very unpleased when you slam right at him. The added trample is something that makes this card very powerful.

Thanx for reading ;) Now go play!

A little extra for the guide..

Here's an example of when things just seem to go perfect in a 1 on 1 game and you can secure a win pretty fast.

On my starting hand I had just 2 lands, 1 Rampant Growth, 1 Khalni Heart Expedition, 1 Farhaven Elf, 1 All Is Dust and 1 Artisan of Kozilek. I chose to keep my hand knowing that there's a good chance of drawing atleast 1 land within the 2 first turns and seeing that I would atleast be able to play 3 of the spells sitting in my hand.
Drawing the Eldrazi Conscription was the best card to draw under these circumstances or..? With a Lightning Helix my opponent would be able to remove my elf on my turn in response to me casting Conscription.. that's the thing to be aware of in this matchup. When your opponent only leaves one red mana open on your turn you know however that he can't do anything since there are no instant removal spells in that deck for 1 red.

Wrong game.
As listed above, you should copy/paste it in to the correct game hub, or at the very least delete this one.

That would mean rewriting the guide. Yes, I can copy/paste the text but I would have to reinsert all the picture files. I have asked for a solution in the forum maybe someone who knows how to do it will help with info there.

I think the only way to migrate it over to the Magic 2014 community hub, would be to copy/paste it over, and then delete this one.

That's strange. I wonder what I should do to fix it.

No, I mean this is a guide for magic 2014, but it's in the Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 community hub. I actually enjoy the older versions too, and am always up for a game :P
Snackster  [author] 5 Aug, 2014 @ 12:34am
Why would it be the wrong game? Alot of players don't even like the newest magic game and dont play it. Some of the older versions are alot of fun to play and some people do just that.

Wrong game bro, although I do appreciate all the effort you put into this.
