Overview:
cs_Onyx is a hostage map with a large variety of strategic options created by the [Ruca] gaming community members Bandito and Woody. It features a richly detailed office environment, meticulously tested and balanced by members within [Ruca]. With a large number of long hallways, tight corners, and penetrable walls and cover, this map contains many ways to succeed on both the Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist sides of the game.

Setting:
Game developer Onyx Entertainment has been raided by terrorists during a thunderstorm in a downtown office district on the eastern seaboard. After 30 minutes of failed negotiations, the police send for the counter-terrorist squad. As the downpour pounds the city, the squad assembles and prepares for a hostage extraction under the cover of darkness and rain. The terrorists wait within the crisp white walls of the software company, safe from the storm yet unaware of the assault that is about to occur. The calm within the building belies the events of the attack and the coming raid outside the door.

Testing and Iteration:
Creating a balanced map that is fun and fair is of the utmost priority to the team behind Onyx. With a willingness to put ego aside in the face of constructive criticism, this map has been constantly updated after getting feedback over weeks of testing with a large group of CS:GO veterans. Some balance and game flow updates that have come about due to feedback include a numerous overhauls of the cubicle area and attic, inclusion of visibility blocks at the parking lot, vent lighting, and hostage locations.
