This guide is a complete step-to-step walkthrough and covers everything in the game. Following it thoroughly will get you all the achievements as well.

Don't use hints at all. Using hints will void the "Master Adventurer" achievement.
Game saves all your progress automatically. Feel free to quit whenever.
Items are equipped by clicking on the backpack icon and used by clicking on their names under the compass.
