This guide will give you information on how to play the 2013 Wraith-Night event. The 2013 Wraith-Night event is playable starting December 12th.

• Frostivus 2013

Wraith-Night is a holdout game mode which consists of five players protecting the Skeleton King during his transformation into the Wraith King. You're able to queue as a group or solo, and you can choose from three different difficulty levels, Normal, New Game+ and New Game++.









While playing Wraith-Night you will only be able to pick from a limited pool of heroes with modified abilities. Certain items in Wraith-Night have also been modified to fit the playstyle of the gamemode. Hover over the tooltips to see what changes have been made.











Waves of creeps will appear from all four corners of the map and will begin attacking your towers. If you leave your towers to be destroyed the Skeleton King will become exposed, and if destroyed will end the game early. The game will also end if all five team members are dead. In total there are six towers protecting the Skeleton King.


At the beginning of each round your towers will re-spawn and regenerate to full health. You'll receive bonus gold at the end of each round for every tower left standing on the map.









If a teammate dies during a round they can be resurrected by clicking on the tombstone that appears over their corpse. Resurrecting a player requires ten seconds of channeling time by default, which is decreased if multiple players channel. If resurrection is not an option the player can also buy back into the game at the expense of gold.








Destroying creeps will sacrifice their soul to the Skeleton King, once enough souls have been collected in a round it will end, continuing on to the next. You can view your progress towards the next round on the left side of the screen.


Creeps will drop bags of gold which can be used to purchase items from the shop along with consumables which restore health and mana. Runes such double damage and illusions will also spawn throughout the map as the game goes on.



In total there are twelve rounds, each following a different theme and featuring a different set of creeps. Below you can find list of their names, each round will heavily effect how you need to play in order to overcome it.

Once round twelve has been completed the Skeleton King will be reborn as the Wraith King to do battle with your team. Just like Skeleton King, the Wraith King can resurrect after he dies. Every single time he resurrects his health pool will grow larger which can be seen at the bottom of the screen.

Your team must defeat the Wraith King three times to be victorious.



The Wraith King has a number of abilities he can use against your team which will change each time he resurrects.


Once the Wraith King has been defeated three times a vote will be cast to see if the group would like to play again on the next highest difficulty.

If you fail you'll be given the option to vote to try again with the same group. There are no checkpoints, and you'll begin at round one.

Surviving waves of creeps will earn you and your team Phantom Fragments which can be used to redeem items from the Wraith-Night store. You'll earn more fragments if you're playing on the New Game+ or New Game++ difficulty, or if somebody in your group has a Wraith King's Favor.

Your fragment earnings will be tallied at the end of each round on the scoreboard.






You can also earn Shining Fragments the same way as Phantom Fragments if somebody in your group has activated a Wraith King's Favor. The Wraith King's Favor works in a similar way as a battle booster and lasts for 500 minutes of Wraith-Night gameplay. The effect of the Wraith King's Favor stacks by 10% for every team member which has one, resulting in additional fragments. Just like the Phantom equivalent, you'll earn more shards on the New Game+ and New Game++ difficulty setting.

The Wraith King's Favor can be purchased from the Dota 2 store during the event. Redeeming Shining Fragments will earn you rewards exclusive to the Wraith-Night event.




To access the Wraith-Night store select the Redeem Fragments button on the Wraith-Night play screen.


From the Wraith-Night store you can exchange 1000 Shining Fragments for 500 Phantom Fragments by selecting the Exchange Fragments button.
