What are trinkets and what do they unlock?
Trinkets are collectable items that are hidden throughout the game. They are not required for completing the main story although they unlock some extra goods within the game. They are usually very difficult to obtain.

Trinkets unlock the following:

Time trials
If you collect a certain amount of trinkets as well as rescue certain crew members, you'll be able to unlock time trials for various levels. Here is the list:

•3 trinkets ---------- Space Station 1
•6 trinkets ---------- The Laboratory
•9 trinkets ---------- The Tower
•12 trinkets --------- Space Station 2
•15 trinkets --------- The Warp Zone
•18 trinkets --------- The Final Level

Jukebox songs
In your main ship, in the top middle room, you'll be able to listen to the games [awesome] soundtrack depending on how many trinkets you've collected. The following amount of trinkets unlocks the following songs:

•5 --------------- Pushing Onwards
•8 --------------- Positive Force
•10 ------------- Presenting VVVVVV
•12 ------------- Potential For Anything
•14 ------------- Pressure Cooker
•16 ------------- Predestined Fate
•18 ------------- Popular Potpourri
•20 ------------- Pipe Dream, ecroF evitisoP

The Secret Lab
Collect all 20 trinkets and you'll gain access to the secret lab. Just talk to Viola (the person in the trinket room on your ship) once you've found all of the trinkets and you'll be teleported there. The Secret Lab is an area where your VVVVVV "trophies" are stored by completing certain tasks. These include beating the game with a certain amount of deaths, earning specific ranks in time trials, and how long you can survive "The Gravitron" (which is in the lab).
Doing things the easy way...
If you can't get some of these trinkets because you think they're too hard don't feel like getting them, there's an easier, alternate method to getting them. The trinkets are very hard to get, which means that you'll most likely die a lot trying to get one.

If this bothers you, go onto the main menu and click game options. Once there, go to accessibility options and select slowdown. You can now choose how slow the game runs, which makes those very difficult trinkets easier to get.
If this isn't good enough, you can select invincibility under the accessibility options: meaning that you're...well...invincible.

The good news is, you'll be able to obtain all of the trinkets this way*. The bad news is, you now have to live with the shame that-deep down inside-you didn't really earn these trinkets.

*As far as I know, using these "cheats" to get the trinkets won't affect the game.
Map and Storage room
Map
Here is a map of all of the trinket locations that will be referred to many times in this guide.

Storage Room
In the top left area of your ship, there is an area where all of your trinkets are stored. The trinkets you find appear in specific locations, which means you can easily tell which trinkets you have/don't have. Here is a picture that shows you which location of each trinket in the storage room is. They have numbers which means it's the one found in this guide (Ex: the trinket with the number 19 above it is the "#19" trinket in this guide).

In this guide, I included the name of each screen where the trinket is found, as well as an average difficulty rating (based on my experiences).
Trinket #1
Level name: Space Station 1
Title of screen with trinket: "It's a Secret to Nobody"
Difficulty: ★ (Very easy)

This will probably be the first trinket you find. When you first start the game, proceed normally until you find two paths: one that leads left, and one that leads down. Go to the downward path and you'll arrive at the area pictured. Just flip to the flat area on the ceiling, then to the one on the ground, then to the ceiling again to retrieve your trinket.
Trinket #2
Level name: Space Station 1
Title of screen with trinket: "Trench Warfare"
Difficulty: ★★ (Easy)

Continue through the level until you reach the part with the three platforms that move up and down, and head to the screen to the right that's right next to the checkpoint. When you reach the screen shown, you'll have to flip up and down from the moving platform at the top to the grounded areas below. Make sure you time your jumps right or you'll hit the spikes. After you get the trinket, you can just kill yourself to avoid having to do it again.
Trinket #3
Level name: The Laboratory
Title of screen with trinket: "Young Man, It's Worth the Challenge"
Difficulty: ★★ (Easy)

When you're going through the lab, you'll find an area with a hole at the top. Go through the hole, and you'll be at the area shown above. Getting to the trinket isn't hard, though requires knowledge of how the "flip lines" work. You first have to flip up and hit the first line, and when you're going down, hit the bottom line so you'll go up. You have to hit the third line at a high area so that you'll be able to fall onto the platform with the trinket.
Trinket #4
Level name: The Laboratory
Title of screen with trinket: None
Difficulty: ★ (Very easy)

When you reach the teleporter that's inside the lab, there's an area above you that you can go through. Go up it (though you have to position it right, as there are a few spikes that can kill you). Once there, just head left and flip up and down to get through the large amount of blocks (there are no enemies at all) and you'll find the trinket.
Trinket #5
Level name: The Laboratory
Title of screen with trinket: "The Tantalizing Trinket"
Difficulty: ★★★ (Medium)

Progress through the level until you reach the green room with the checkpoint. Go up the hole from above. This trinket is similar to trinket #3. You just have to angle your falls like the arrows are pointing, and you should be able to get the trinket easily.
Trinket #6
Level name: The Laboratory
Title of screen with trinket: "Purest Unobtainium"
Difficulty: ★★★ (Medium)

Near the end of the level, you'll find an area called "Please forgive me!" and above it is an area called "I'm sorry." Get the checkpoint found at the right of "Forgive me" and go through the middle hole at the same screen. When you hit the line, you'll fall back down. You need to time your hit with the line perfectly so that you go over the little area of spikes. Once you get over, all you need to do is walk to the right (and flip a few times) and you'll find the trinket.
Trinket #7
Level name: None (Overworld)
Title of screen with trinket: None
Difficulty: ★★ (Easy)

Go into the tiny little crevice that is near #7 on the map (refer to my picture of the overworld map). Follow the path until you reach a checkpoint. There will be a wall of spikes that goes for two screens. Just aim your fall correctly and continue right (then up) to find the trinket.
Trinket #8
Level name: None (Overworld)
Title of screen with trinket: None
Difficulty: ★★ (Easy)

Go onto the flat area that's above the main spaceship on the map (it's above where the big 8 is on my map). You'll have to go left and then head down (note that on the map you'll appear on the far right). You'll find a few small platforms with a lot of spikes around them. Just flip onto each platform right and the trinket will be located to the very right.
Trinket #9
Level name: The Tower
Title of screen with trinket: "The Tower"
Difficulty: ★★★ (Medium)

Enter the tower and continue until you reach the area shown. What you need to do is flip your way to the left by flipping where the arrows are pointed to. What makes this hard is the fact that the level continuously moves up, meaning that you only have a short amount of time to get it. If you miss it, just kill yourself without getting the next checkpoint.
Trinket #10
Level name: The Tower
Title of screen with trinket: "The Tower"
Difficulty: ★★★★ (Hard)

Continue through the level until you reach the area shown below (the screenshot with the purple background). Like the previous trinket, the area moves up fast: meaning that you have very little time to perform your jumps. What you need to do is jump up, then down, then back up and run towards to the left, which will make you appear at the right side of the screen. Then jump up and then immediately down, then head right. Then, you have to wait a bit for the screen to move, and then you have to fall upwards and move left so that you can land on the platform to the right of the screen (the one that the arrow is pointing to on the second screenshot below). Then just wait a bit and fall upwards so that you can get the trinket.

Remember, you can do this as many times as you want as long as you don't touch any of the checkpoints above.
Trinket #11
Level name: None (Overworld)
Title of screen with trinket: None
Difficulty: ★ (Very Easy)

Go into the very thin area located to the very left of the right half of the screen. All you need to do is follow it until you find a room with a giant elephant. Just go to the left of it and head up to retrieve probably the easiest trinket in the game.
Trinket #12
Level name: Space Station 2
Title of screen with trinket: "One Way Room"
Difficulty: ★★ (Easy)

When you get to the room titled "The High Road is Low," get to the area where the checkpoint is. You have to wait for the platfor at the very right to go as high as it can. Once it does, you have to flip at the right time so that you'll be under the platforms. When you get under, run to the left as fast as you can. Then just head left and fall up to get the trinket.
Trinket #13
Level name: Space Station 2
Title of screen with trinket: "You Just Keep Coming Back"
Difficulty: ★★★ (Medium)

When you get to the screen titled "Backsliders," flip so that you'll be under the conveyor belt, and walk to the right. Be careful of the enemies that move up and down. Once you get to the next screen ("Gordian Knot"), touch the checkpoint and wait for the first platform to move all the way up. Then just walk on it and the other descending platform. Afterwards just walk to the next screen on the right to get the trinket.
Trinket #14
Level name: Space Station 2
Title of screen with trinket: "Clarion Call"
Difficulty: ★★ (Easy)

When you're going through the level normally, you'll eventually go through a room called Clarion Call. Go to the room above it (Manic Main). Once there, just flip your way across the platforms and fall down back to Clarion Call. Now all you need to do is time your fall correctly so that you don't hit any of the incoming Lies.
Trinket #15
Level name: Space Station 2
Title of screen with trinket: "Prize for the Reckless"
Difficulty: ★★★★ (Hard)

When you get to Prize for the Reckless, touch the checkpoint that's on the ceiling. Then proceed to the left. The key to getting this trinket is to not touch any of the checkpoints ahead. If you touch any of the checkpoints ahead, you have to go all the way back and touch the first checkpoint mentioned.

On the next screen to the left, there will be two red enemies moving left and right. Time your jump right so that you'll be on the platforms near them. If one comes near you, just flip to the other side, then fall upwards.

On Down Under, fall upwards so that you're on the bottom of the moving platform, and then move quickly to the right so that you don't hit the spikes. Then just flip your way to the right without touching the checkpoint.

On Shenanigan, fall towards the left side of the first conveyor belt, then flip to the right side of the second conveyor belt, then flip to the hole below. Be careful of the conveyor belts, as they will usually make you either fall off or touch one of the checkpoints.

Now you're back at the first screen. Touch the blue platform so that it will disappear. Now the other blue platform will be able to move left and right. Now you can just kill yourself by touching the spikes near you so that you'll now be at the original checkpoint. Use the now moving platform to get the trinket.
Trinket #16
Level name: The Ship (your main ship, not technically a level)
Title of screen with trinket: None
Difficulty: ★ (Very easy)

When you get about 10 or more trinkets (not sure if the amount has been changed with the recent update), go into your trinket room on the ship and talk to Victoria*. She'll say that she found a trinket in the lab and she'll give it to you, along with a radar on your map to help you find the remaining trinkets.

*Though the person will always be in the same spot, it might not be exactly Victoria, depending if you saved her or not.
Trinket #17
Level name: None (Overworld)
Title of screen with trinket: None
Difficulty: ★ (Very Easy)

Follow the little green arrow on my map (located a bit below the area of trinket #7) to reach the teleporting square. You'll go through a few small puzzle-like rooms by entering it, but they are all easy and have no enemies. It'll eventually lead you to the room with the green dot on it near the bottom right of my map. Just follow the path to reach the trinket.
Trinket #18
Level name: The Warp Zone
Title of screen with trinket: "Edge Games"
Difficulty: ★★★★ (Hard)

If you followed the path from #17, you'll eventually enter The Warp Zone. Go through the level until you reach the screen titled Edge Games. What you need to do is go to the left and flip your way to the trinket. You have to wait for the pacman-like enemies to go through, and constantly flip between them and move in the direction available.
Trinket #19
Level name: The Final Level
Title of screen with trinket: "V"
Difficulty: ★★★ (Medium)

This trinket is found at the end of the very last level, after you do the part where you keep flipping up and down to avoid the spikes. It's impossible to miss, and there's no way of beating the level without getting it.
Trinket #20
Level name: Space Station 2
Title of screen with trinket: "Doing things the hard way"
Difficulty: ★★★★★ (Very hard)

I saved the hardest for last...

Go through the level normally until you reach the "Getting here is half the fun" screen (the very last screen at the bottom with the yellow-ish background). Fall down the hole, though be careful of the spikes to the sides. When you get to the bottom (first screenshot above), touch the checkpoint and get ready to keep dying. The trinket is right next to you, but to get it, you have to flip up and bounce off of the platform at the very top all the way back down.

Start by flipping up and move towards the right so you can get through the hole (though be careful of the spikes). Then once you get to the next screen, move towards the left, though again, be careful of the spikes. You should also try and set yourself in the middle of the hole. If you set yourself right, then you literally have to do nothing during the next screen (vici). When you get to the "Easy mode" screen, wait for a little bit and then head right. In "Bitter tears," you have to head left (or right) at the right time so you don't collide with the wall spikes and the spikes on the floating square. Now that you're at "Half the fun," you have to time your [upside-down] fall at the right time so that you touch the platform. When you touch it, jump off of it because it will disappear.

Congratulations: you're now half way done.

Getting down is pretty much the same as getting up, although here are a few tips:
• When you're going from "Bitter tears" to "Easy Mode," try and aim for the left side of the fall, as it will be much easier to make it to the left side of "Easy Mode."
• When you're about to land on the area with the trinket, make sure to go towards the right, but not to much because you'll hit the spikes.

Red arrows= Way up
Blue arrows= Way down
Congratulations!
If you actually managed to obtain all of these without cheating, then I would just like to congratulate you (yes you, the one reading this) on your hard work.

If you don't even have this game and you're just viewing this guide for some strange reason, then I highly encourage you to get this game. It's really fun and challenging (and it has a cool soundtrack).

I hope you found this guide to be helpful!

For #16 if you've saved everyone besides Victoria and then talk to vitillery at least twice (once for the normal saved dialogue and then again) he will give you the trinket instead no matter how many trinkets you have beforehand, though he will be in his normal spot in the ship.

Thank you for the guide! Ironically, #16 (the one that is simply given to you) was the only one I was actually missing.

Honestly, Doing Things The Hard Way is not nearly as bad as Unobtainium was. I died more on Purest Unobtainium than I did on DTTHW

you don't need to use the enemy clipping bug to get trinket 18, just flip up and down between the enemies when you wrap

18 - man, i hate puzzles based on game bugs, even it is a good game, puzzles like this should not be used in games, srsly.
