Setting up a Free For All match
By Sokite
This is a guide to help correctly set up a Free For All match in Dawn of War 3. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the game's mod tools, it's not quite as simple as you'd assume and there's a number of issues. We've tested this mod quite extensively so I'm confident that any issues you encounter will be addressed here.

You will need to Subscribe to BANANMANX47's Free For All mod, as well as a map that is compatible with it. Below are links to the mod and a collection of maps.

Map, Game Mode and Player Slots
The way this mod works is by setting each player slot to be its own team, however by default DoW3 only has two teams, so when you first select a map all player slots will be set to either team 1 or team 2. In order to fix this, do the following:

- Set the game mode to 'Free for All'
- Select a compatible map. All of the FFA Maps I have made should have (FFA) at the start.
- Close the lobby, and then reopen it.
You should now see a lobby with only two player slots - this is normal. The game is only designed to display two teams, so since the other players are on different teams it isn't able to show them despite them still being in the lobby. While you can select maps that are intended for annihilation, you must select a map that is set up to work with FFA. If you select a regular annihilation map, the match will only have two teams rather than everybody being on separate teams.

If you switch from one map to another which is intended for a different number of players you may need to close and reopen the lobby again.
Setting Faction, Elites and Doctrines
However, you are not yet ready to start. Part of the script that sets each player to their own team includes setting each player slot's faction - without this it wouldn't work. As a result a player can start a match as the wrong faction, and with no Elites or Doctrines. In order to avoid this open the 'Elites' section from the menu at the top of the screen and switch your faction, then switch back to the faction you want to play. This does not always fix the problem, however, so you may need to restart the match if a person experiences this issue. It is also worth noting that you cannot switch your faction in the lobby, so the 'Elites' tab is the only way of doing this. Furthermore you can only change doctrines with the 'Doctrines' tab at the right of the lobby.
Inviting Players
Another important thing to know is that you cannot kick players from a FFA lobby, so in order to avoid this you should invite anybody that you want to play with rather than opening the lobby to the public. You can do this either through the player two slot (can only be done if nobody is in this player slot), or with the party function in the 'Browse' section. You will not be able to start the game without a full lobby. While you can only see the first two player slots, you can see everybody who is in the lobby by selecting the 'Match Chat' tab at the bottom of the lobby.
Playing with AI
In order to play with AI, follow the steps in the 'Map, Game Mode and Player Slots' section but select the version of a map that has "AI" at the end of the title, e.g. "(FFA) Port Saunderus (3P/AI)" - this will automatically fill the other player slots with AI which cannot be altered.

Playing with a mix of players and AI is a little more complicated - first select a map with the number of AI you want then switch to the actual non-AI version of map you want to play. This will put AI into the lobby while leaving some slots empty for you to invite people (see 'Inviting Players'). For example, if you wanted to play with 2 AI and 3 players you would select "(FFA) Port Saunderus (3P/AI)" which has two AI in it, then switch to "(FFA) Manufactorum (5P)". DO NOT switch to an AI map after inviting players into the lobby, as this will kick out the actual players.
While in a Match
You must NOT leave the match until it is over. If you do the match will end for all players in the game, not just you. This is likely due to the game identifying that everybody on a team has left, and since its made with the expectation of there only being two teams it assumes there's no need to continue the match. You can still use the surrender function, but this won't take you out of the match. When you are defeated the fog of war will be removed and you can watch the rest of the match.

Just invite people and start, do not reopen. If you close the lobby that will probably remove the AI.
