Super Zombie Fortress, not to be confused with Zombie Fortress or Zombie Mod is Team Fortress 2 mod-gamemode. It’s played on custom-made maps and requires a plugin to play. The Public Super Zombie Fortress plugin originally came out May 2011. In total currently roughly 2 servers run this mod-gamemode.

So what is Super Zombie Fortress?

Super Zombie Fortress is a gamemode about zombie versus survivors. A mode about outrunning and outgunning hoards of zombies.

Super Zombie Fortress is based off of Zombie Fortress. It’s sort of a spiritual successor. Many core gameplay elements and concepts remain. Super Zombie Fortress also barrows ideas from Valve’s Left 4 Dead Franchise. This weird mish mash of ideas makes for interesting gameplay.

The core idea of zombies versus survivors remains from Zombie Fortress. The red team plays the roll of survivors. Their goal is to survive. They consist of all classes besides the scout, the spy and the heavy, witch are exclusive to the zombie team. They only have one life. When they die they respawn as part of the Zombie team. If they’re all killed the zombie team wins. The last living survivors receives overheal and a 100% change to critically hit. This mechanic is referred to as ‘the last stand.’

The blue team plays the roll of the Zombies. Zombies can enter a ‘rage’ stats by clicking their call medic key when at full health to receive a temporary over-heal. This is where the similarities to Zombie Fortress end.

The blue team normally spawn as common zombies. Common zombies have innate abilities. The heavy takes reduced knockback. The scout can shoots a projectile that fills a small area with green smoke that deals minuscule damage. The spy can cloak and backstab but not disguise. When a spy backstabs a survivor, rather then kill them they are deduced to low health and stunned for a moment.

Alongside common zombies are special zombies referred to as special infected. Doing well as a zombie trigger spawning as one of them instead of a regular zombie. There are 3 kinds of special zombie.

Smoker-spies: They can’t cloak. With their alt-fire they deal damage by shooting a laser at survivors. It functions sort of like a spray of water or a whip.

Charger-heavy: This zombie has a charge-forward ability like alt-fire on the demoman’s shields.

Tank-heavy: There usually is only one tank-heavy in an entire round. They commonly spawn when the last control point is being captured by survivors. They have a lot of health and are difficulty to kill.


One of the core gameplay concepts in Super Zombie Fortress is weapon pick-ups. First and foremost it’s important to note that the weapon pick-up mechanic isn’t available in the public release of Super Zombie Fortress. Only the official servers and servers running a third party patch can have this mechanic.

Survivors start off with only melee weapons. They start with whatever melee the player has equipped. They can pick up weapons randomly spawned throughout the level that belong to their class. Weapons are picked up by clicking the call medic button. There are 2 kinds of weapon pick-ups. 1-time use and unlimited. Usually only the original spawn for the survivors will have weapons that can be picked up multiple times.

Due to this weapon pickup mechanic it’s idea to have a wide variety of survivor classes in order to maximise the chance for survivors to find a weapon for their class.

For balance reasons some weapons in Super Zombie Fortress are either modified or banned, depending on the server.


Super Zombie Fortress also has a zombie frenzy mechanic. Basically there’s a chance in a round that zombies will frenzy. They’ll receive near instant respawn times and spawn really close to survivors for a short duration of time.


In Super Zombie Fortress maps vary in objectives. Map goals can feasibly be anything but the standard goal of a map is for survivors to cap points and make progress towards rescue. New to Super Zombie Fortress is the “scavenge” map objective. A concept found in Left 4 Dead, scavenge challenges players to find and move objects (normally gas cans) to a receptacle in order to make progress.


Super Zombie Fortress institutes a dynamic music system. Tracks from Left 4 Dead will play depending in the situation. An event like a survivor getting stunned or a tank spawning will trigger a music change.


And that’s basically Super Zombie Fortress in a nutshell. A cross between Left 4 Dead and standard Zombie Fortress. A fun weird mixture of games.

Also adding, please share these servers around and encourage the gamemode if you enjoy it.
Our small community is slowly growing but we need a boost to make the server more popular and help us expand with donations and players, and I think this mode will be it (or parkour fortress)
