2023: How to make newer multi core CPUs work well with warband in 2023! (RGL Runtime error fix, FPS fix, Memory leak Fix,... )
By CptZhu
EDIT 2023: THIS IS ALSO A FIX FOR ANNOYING ASS RUNTIME RGL ERRORS BTW!!! MY SOLUTION FIXES THESE MEMORY LEAKS. PLS AWARD OR FAVORITE SO EVERYONE CAN SEE THIS GUIDE.

Want to play warband without headache crashing and other annoying things which make you unable to properly enjoy the game and its mods? (Prophesy of Pendor)
I spent hours testing and deducting problems so you don't have to.

I have found the solution for ryzen 2xxx series and upwards, and new gen multi core CPUs underperforming in massive unit sized battles (300-1000), went from 30 to a whopping 90 FPS with this!!!

So we all know warband is very CPU intensive and doesn't use multiple coreswell yada yada, but actually alot of people on forums were recommending to turn ON force single threading, which is actually really counter intuitive after extensive testing;

Here's how I can now finally play and enjoy massive PoP battles with new gen CPUs:

- I lightly overclocked my Ryzen 2700x (gpu gtx 1080ti) from 3.7 to 4.0 (EDIT: In 2023 I upgraded to a 5900x. Without using my guide, I was still constantly experiencing crashing, runtime errors. After using my guide, I still noticed a very noticeable upgrade in performance and the crashing also stopped. Warband doesn't care about how new your CPU is.)

- Use a software called: process lasso
Or, you can also just use the task manager: Affinity to set used CPU's 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14, the odd numbers are virtual cores so untick those as older games don't use them well and cause negative effects! Process lasso is just a simple software that can automate it for warband every time you start it up. It's a very well-known, good software that smart nerds like me use.
Process lasso download link: https://bitsum.com/

- TURNING OFF FORCE SINGLE THREADING AND THUS ALLOWING THE GAME TO USE THE MULTIPLE PHYSICAL CORES (0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14)

- Set warband to high priority in process lasso or task manager!

- Turn ON load textures on demand.

and voila, now I can enjoy my massive Prophesy of Pendor at Directx9, maxed settings, battles at 450 units instead of slideshow game. Massive battles that took 30 mins to play wont troll you with a crash at the end or during the battle anymore, making you want to smash in your monitor.

My fix boosts FPS alot, when entering dialogues, taverns, or scenes, everything feels smoother now. Also Massive battles will not crash due to RGL_Runtime error ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anymore. I loathed so hard playing half an hour a massive battle, and then suddenly crash. NOT ANYMORE!

Also helps with multiplayer sieges and just general performance. Never thought it was possible because of old engine blabla not optimised blabla, high end PC playing like ♥♥♥♥ on this game blabla, it's all a LIE, after countless upon countless hours of endless research, deducting, and testing I fixed it!!!
Pls award so other people can see this too.

Edit: I dont want to see any comments about ""muh muh this iddnt worked for meh?!!"" when you are using an ancient old gen pentium CPU from 2011 with 4 cores, then you didnt even bother reading the guide title.

Edit2: Also works for certain Ryzen 1xxxx series

Edit3: Works for newer gen Intel multi core/threaded CPU's aswell, but usually they have higher single core clock speeds, but thsi guide produces a difference nontheless. Process lasso makes the old game engine communicate well with your new CPUs, it's an old game. Trust me I'm a techie.

I've put it as low as 300 and still had issues. I didn't get the cores thing in the app you listed but I did in the control panel.

whats your battle size? Ive recently played PoP and have 0 issues. dont alt tab btw

It's some unknown processing error that almost always happens in medium-large to huge battles. I've read your entire thing like 5 times now and unless I'm braindead I followed everything exactly.

Are you sure you followed everything to the letter? what kind of crashes? what kind of errors?
The Dark Ranger 25 Aug, 2024 @ 9:19pm
I followed your directions to the letter and I do not see a difference, I keep getting unknown crashes and my computer is only 4 or 5 years old so it isn't some ancient piece of crap, any new advice?

My CPU is an I7-8700k and at idle ran at 30-50C and at 30% usage it ran at 86-+90C
After changing to the water cooler, the CPU only reaches about 70-83C at 100% usage.
I know this guide improved my performance in large battles, but the thermal throttling is likely what made it such a small boost... still improved from 5-12fps to 15-20 ish fps with the guide, so I will likely need to retry the guide in a bit.

I am mostly leaving this comment in case people have a similar issue with a little boost in performance as I honestly didn't think until now that the thermal throttling could have been the issue...

would've made that battle a few months back more epic... 40 swadian knights, 20 peasants, facing down nearly 900 of the Sarranid Sultanate... 18 knights and 12 peasants lost and the army was sent reeling in absolute defeat.
