you don't actually have to play through the whole game. The easiest method to do it is to complete the final mission on mission mode. It might be tough pulling it off even on easy
i found someone on youtube make guide showing some tricks that will help you

I tried... I make it to O'Neil and even manage to defeat him and turn him into ShamuSnack® without losing a single life but it all goes downhill after that. Is there a way to change the game a little bit and raise the amount of 1UP you start with or make yourself invincible permanently?
