Preface

This guide contains the steps taken to get this working on my own system, I am in no way related to the fix from ModDB or the game itself.

Implement the fixes and changes made in this guide at your own risk.

The onboard fix is easily setup on any system, requires no additional software (beyond your GPU drivers) and will display the game as it was designed to appear.

The alternate fix will scale the graphics down and give a wider field of view, but does cause some UI graphical issues (however the UI still works normally in-game)

Onboard Widescreen Fix

The Nvidia widescreen fix is pretty basic and straightforward.

Right click your desktop wallpaper/background and select the Nvidia Control Panel
Navigate to the scaling and size settings, then change the scaling to full-screen.

Apply and launch the game!

Please note this will not zoom/scale the graphics as with the below fix, and will instead display the game as it did on release, albeit at a widescreen resolution

Intel and AMD GPU's likely include these settings, however you will need to search for them.

Alternate Widescreen Fix

This linked mod from ModDB contains several folders with different resolutions, you will need to download the file, choose the resolution that best fits your system specification and drag the contents of that folder into your games installation directory.

Once the files are copied into the games installation directory, run the game; you'll notice the game is still in its default 640x420 resolution, to correct this start or load into any adventure and go to

Options > Display Settings

Choose 1024x720 as below; the game will then force to the previously chosen resolution.

Incredibly there is a non official patch (look for it in google, it´s the web is called zeus haeven or something like that).

What amazes me is... HOW CAN THIS BE UNOFFICIAL AFTER SO LONG?!?!?!?!

A little hint for Ultra Widescreen Users if you get a Blackscreen when changing to a higher resolution in game:

1. Set the Stuff in the Nvidia Control Panel as descriped in the post.
2. Go to this website https://zeus.heavengames.com/downloads/lister.php?category=patches
3. Download and Install the 2.1 Patch with the 1920x1080 Resolution.
4. Start the Game, go into a Campaign -> Options -> Display and set the 1024x768.
5. Enjoy

I haved a 3440x1440 Monitor and I get really weird UI Bugs and Blackscreens when using a Higher Resolution Mod then 1920x1080. But it looks great anyway in 1080.

If it's a Windows system, right click on the desktop background and go to display settings; you can see your current resolution here.

How do I tell which resolution is best for my system specification? I'm running on a gaming laptop and don't have a monitor.

That happens if you have Windows Updates install the graphics driver, I recommend downloading the latest/full version @ the Nvidia website.
