How to fix it
First off I need to thank someone for giving me this information.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/id/sh1k1

How to fix this:
Simutaneously press
Alt and Enter

Then navigate to here in your files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\58020027\221040\remote
Or
C:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\58020027\221040\remote

Look for "savedata"
Now rename that savedata to something like: savedata1
Now go back into the game and try to save, it will say it can't find the save data and should ask ot make a new save file.
Say yes and it should work.

50k Space Required
How to fix this:
Simutaneously press
Alt and Enter

Then navigate to here in your files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\58020027\221040\remote
Or
C:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\58020027\221040\remote

Look for "savedata"
Now rename that savedata to something like: savedata1

Now, exit to the menu, and go back into the story or whatever you were doing, after this get to a checkpoint. Exit the gamemode, and then go back and see if it saved.

If I'm right, it should've made a new save.

(ORIGINAL)

This seems to be a localized problem affecting only a limited number of people, myself included from time to time. What I did was that I forced the game to windowed mode (Alt+Enter), then navigated to the save data directory in my Steam installation folder, and deleted/renamed my saved data file (savedata.bin). That way, the game still kept all my stuff in RAM, and when it asked me to try saving again, it wouldn't find the save data, so it requested to create "new" save data (with all my junk up until that point). I accepted, and problem solved, my data got saved successfully.

You might want to try that out. I know it's only a workaround, but hey, as long as it works until it's officially fixed...

@Jay Lay Definitely. Most would have bought this game multiple times by now (I got it on console and PC), and beyond a "HD" or "remaster" re-release emerging, there is no reason that people today should not seek out whatever fixes they can find, in order to circumvent Capcom's neglect.

Smart Steam Emulator might actually be the better long term fix for some.
Depends, the reason this error happens is insanely sensitive "anti-cheat" reasons.

If it doesn't work, try:
1. Completely close RE6
2. Close Steam (Can close from Steam menu-> Exit, or close from Taskbar)
3. Go to Steam folder and delete "appcache" (or it cut to a different location)
4. In Steam folder, find: \Steam\userdata\**USER_DATA_NUMBER**\221040
5. Delete "remotecache.vdf"
6. Run Steam as Administrator
7. Run RE6 from Steam Library

Steam folder is (by default):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\
Or
C:\Program Files\Steam\

If you have no luck with these "fixes", use the "Smart Steam Emulator" -- the saves work when the game runs through that launcher (Windows 11, 2025). The game still works online using that third-party launcher.

That's actually a useful comment, I imagine, I dunno haven't played this game since this guide likely. Here's the translation, thank ya xidiji:

"There are irrelevant files in the local game archive folder and they are recorded by remotecache.vdf, so you need to clean up the archive folder and delete or modify remotecache.vdf. You must exit steam, it is best to temporarily close the cloud save"

本地的游戏存档文件夹内存在无关文件,并且被remotecache.vdf记录了下来,所以需要清理存档文件夹,并且删除或者修改remotecache.vdf。必须退出steam,最好暂时关闭云存档

Sorry dude, I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even think I made this guide when I first came here. Hell I googled the issue and this guide is the first result. I'm really sorry that you're in this position and I am completely unable to help. Good luck!

I did this and this caused the 50kb issue, help?

This doesn't fix the 50KB required error, because in that case you don't even have a save file to rename. :(

This game has the buggiest and least functional save system ever.
