3 Avoiding the Poison-Puffer

Summary
The Poison-Puffer is a small, yellow fish that only lives underwater at certain Large Islands. The Poison-Puffer attacks by swimming towards the player, and when it is close enough, it will explode into a large cloud of poison gas, dealing immediate damage and poisoning the player. Once defeated, it is advisable to collect any arrows from the corpse before looting, as the arrows are not looted with the Poison-Puffer. The Poison-Puffer drops a Poison-Puffer Head, which is used in the Recipe "Head Broth. The Poison-Puffer also drops one Explosive Goo, with a 33% chance of dropping a second. These can be used to make Explosive Powder. Poison-Puffers can typically be spotted just below the surface as they emit small bubbles that rise and pop at the surface. Once a Poison-Puffer detects the player, it will follow them for as long as the player remains in the water. As a result of this mechanic, players can sometimes find themselves being pursued by multiple Poison-Puffers resulting in a stressful fight.

Strategies
To kill the Poison-Puffer, a Metal Spear or a Bow is recommended, although the bow is definitely the safest. It takes six Stone Arrow hits (seven on hard), or three Metal Arrows hits (four on hard) to kill the Poison-Puffer. If engaged with multiple fish at a time, swim in circles a few times in order to center the fish and then take them out one at a time using any of the methods below. If using arrows, remember these have a shorter despawn timer than the body of the fish, so consider looting them during the fight to avoid losing them.

Spear

When finding a Poison-Puffer, start the fight by luring it by swimming near it. Back away until ready to attack, then move forward, stab it and immediately move back again in a fluent motion. Repeat.

Bow

Once being chased by the Poison-Puffer, begin backing up and start firing arrows. Keep in mind that arrows travel much slower underwater, so try to not swim too far ahead of the fish before shooting. It is also possible to lead the fish to shallow water. Lure the fish to shallow water and exit the water. The fish will turn around and start to swim away. Once the fish is a safe distance, re-enter the water. The fish will swim either left or right to turn around to attack you. Shoot the fish with the arrows and exit the water when it becomes too close. It is possible to shoot the fish multiple times by repeating this.

Screecher
Summary
The Meanie Bird is a Threat encountered on Large Islands. Once it has spotted the player, a Meanie Bird will attack by dropping boulders onto the player, eventually killing them. Its detection radius is fairly big, so once approaching be sure to keep an eye of for when it dives and listen for the sound of a boulder being picked up. The Meanie Bird always tugs three times before lifting off with a boulder. Once the boulder has been picked up, the Meanie Bird will move in as straight a line as possible towards the player. Once directly above, it will drop the boulder dealing 35 damage to the player if hit.

Whenever the Meanie Bird is hit, a cloud of feathers emerges from its body. If the Meanie Bird is hit while trying to pick up a boulder, it may fly away to a different location and continue. Do note that it does not start over. Despite moving to a new location, the Meanie Bird will only need to complete three tugs before emerging with a boulder, even if its spread out over multiple attempts.

Strategies
To kill Meanie Birds, it is recommended to use a Bow. Wait until it flies towards you with a boulder and shoot it once while approaching, and another when it's immediately above you. Make sure to shoot slightly above it on the first shot to make up for the arrow dropping. Consider moving to a high spot so the Meanie Birds will have to fly up to you, potentially making it easier to hit.
Meanie Birds can be killed with a spear when they land to pick up boulders. This method is not always viable because the Meanie Bird tends to land far from the player, taking off after three pulls; before the player can reach it.
To gain the "Expert Meanie Bird Hunter!"-achievement , the player must kill 50 Meanie Birds, which may take a very long time if done conventionally. However, a lot of time can be saved by finding a Large Island and saving. After saving, the player can kill the Meanie Bird, exit to Main Menu without saving, load up the previous save and start over. All Meanie Birds killed count towards the Achievement.
Avoiding Meanie Bird Attacks
Standing under any roof on your raft will shield you from the Meanie Bird's rocks.
Hide in caves.
Keep moving; the Meanie Bird will take longer to drop the rock, and when it does, it will miss unless you move into it again.
Wait for the Meanie Bird to drop a boulder, and as you hear its trigger (a screech), run out of the way.

Trivia
The Meanie Bird's design is based on the bearded vulture, also known as the Ossifrage or Lammergeier.
The Meanie Bird is also known as the Screecher.
Meanie Birds were originally going to be able to destroy parts of the raft when dropping boulders.
In previous versions of Raft, the boulders that Meanie Birds drop could still damage you through one floor of your raft, requiring two or more layers to stop them. However, in the current version, only one layer is needed.
The Meanie Bird‘s method of attack was possibly derived from the death of Aeschylus, an ancient Greek playwright. According to legend, a bearded vulture mistook Aeschylus's head for a rock and dropped a tortoise onto his head, killing him. Bearded vultures drop tortoises onto rocks from great heights to crack their shells before feeding on them.

Warthog
Warthogs are Threats in Raft. They are one of multiple hostile creatures.

Summary
The Warthog is a creature found on Large Islands. Warthogs will attack the player by charging at them. When a Warthog is killed, its parts can be harvested by interacting with it. The Warthogs do not respawn when killed.

Strategies
Luring to Water

One easy way to kill the Warthog is to lure it near water. After doing so, walk to the shore and wait for it to charge at you. Retreat back into the water and when the Warthog has finished charging, it becomes disoriented for a second and you are able to stab/shoot it. This can be sped up by shooting the Warthog while it's on land before coming onto the shore to attract its attention once more. Note how far the Warthog charges you, as it is the same all consecutive charges.

Shot Down with Metal Arrows

The Warthog can be killed quickly on land with a Basic Bow and Metal Arrows. When the Warthog has been encountered, hold the charge button for the bow and fire at it repeatedly whilst strafing and jumping around. The Warthog is killed after being hit by six Metal Arrows. Since this can be done very quickly, the arrows that have been fired into the Warthog can be retrieved as long as the body has not been picked up yet and the arrows themselves haven't despawned. This strategy can be combined with the general strategy of going out of range for the enemy and firing arrows from there.

Wall Jumping

Equipping a Metal Spear, the player can lure the Warthog to a wall and repeatedly stab it without taking damage - much like the Luring to Water strategy. This is done by jumping backwards up the wall and "wall surfing" while the Warthog is charging. While the Warthog is disoriented, jump down and stab it twice before jumping up the wall again before next charge. This can be done until the Warthog has been killed. Avoid hanging on the wall for too long, or the Warthog will run away.
Shark
Summary
The Shark, which also goes by the name "Bruce", is an enemy always present around the player's raft and can be heard as it swims nearby. It will attack the raft every 5-10 minutes. Jumping into the water pauses this timer for the duration that it is targeting you. When the Shark attacks the player's raft, the Shark must be thwarted by dealing three points of damage, or it will break the Foundation or Collection Net it is attacking. The player may repair the Foundation for 50% health per Plank, even while the Shark is attacking. As long as the player has enough Planks, they may repair the Foundation and stall the Shark. If a player enters the water while the Shark is swimming nearby, it will immediately turn around and chase that player, unless the player is too far away, or another player is closer. If killed, the Shark will respawn after about 3 minutes.

If bitten by the Shark, the player takes 30 damage, making the Shark a four-bite killer.

Trivia
The Shark is named Bruce by the developers, which is likely a reference to the movie Jaws or Finding Nemo.

Stabbing the Shark

Attacking the Shark while underwater just as it opens its mouth will cause it to turn and swim away, giving the player a few seconds to reach land or the raft.

Dodging

Sharks always lunge at the player just before biting, but they never move above the water surface. This means that a player can swim towards the shark, face on, and slightly before being attacked "bob" out of the water and evade the attack. This works on all game modes and is a great way of returning to the raft after having looted an Island, since the Sharks will almost always be swimming directly at the player.
Bear
Bears are enemies in Raft. They are one of multiple threats to the player.

Summary
The Bear is found on Balboa Island and Evergreen Islands, first of which is found after getting the four digit code from Vasagatan. Bears patrol different areas of the islands, usually around Natural Beehives. Bears have 20 health points or 25 on Hard mode, which makes them the strongest common opponent in Raft, only exceeded by Mama Bear. The Bears attack players on sight, so if the player wishes to avoid fighting it, they must stay out of range. The Bear has three different attacks: a lunge, swipe and pound attack. When lunging, the Bear will position itself, preflex and leap at the player. The swipe is a basic, quick melee attack. The pound attack seems to have a larger radius, but is slower and easier to dodge. When a Bear is killed, it can be looted by interacting with it. Bears respawn when killed after a few minutes, when the player is not nearby.

Strategies
Metal Spear

The Bear only has melee attacks and will therefore attempt to move closer to the player if it is out of range. When first attacking, Bears are likely to leap at the player once or twice, so it's best to attempt to dodge the first attacks. However, the Bear's attacks are fairly slow, allowing the player to stab it in between attacks with a Metal or Wooden Spear. By dancing towards and away from the Bear, the player can stab 1-2 times between the Bear's attack, while keeping the Bear in the same position. It will not move, unless the player doesn't return to its melee range.

Moving Out of Reach

The Bear's attacks currently hits players in an area close to the ground. Therefor, it is possible for the player to avoid getting hit by the Bear by jumping up on nearby tree stumps or rocks. Even though it may seem as if the Bear can reach the player, it is actually out of reach. If the Bear cannot find pathing to the player's location, it will return to its patrolling path after a few seconds. The player may have to go through a process of trial and error to find, which elevated spots are actually out of reach for the bear, and which are not. From these elevated positions, the player can shoot the bear with a Basic Bow.
Mama Bear
Mama Bear is a boss entity in Raft.

Summary
Mama Bear is one of the enemies in Raft that may attack and kill the player. Mama Bear is a large, brown bear that can be found on Balboa Island. In order to progress in the story, the player must loot a crate containing a Machete and the Blueprint: Machete found in the cave guarded by Mama Bear. When first arriving on Balboa Island, Mama Bear is guarding the entrance to the cave and will attack the player if they come too close. The player may find berries around the island that can be put into a nearby container. After doing so, Mama Bear will move away from the cave entrance and allow the player to enter. At this point, Mama Bear will eat the berries from the container indefinitely until attacked.

Mama Bear deals large amounts of damage and can incapacitate the player in three hits (two hits total 100% of the player's health, but since health regenerates between hits, a third hit is necessary). As such, she is the strongest opponent in the game. Mama Bear's attack consists solely of her melee paw attack.

Strategies
General Strategy

Because of her large health pool, Mama Bear is a tough opponent to defeat. It is highly recommended to use ranged weapons, preferably the Basic Bow and Metal Arrows. Being equipped with Leather Armor is highly advisable, as well as carrying Healing Salve.

After luring Mama Bear away from the entrance of the cave, the player can stand on a natural ledge over the nearby canyon. From here, the player can continuously shoot arrows while running backwards away from Mama Bear to avoid taking damage. Mama Bear will eventually return to eating berries at which point the player can rinse and repeat this process. Do note that hitting Mama Bear just before she turns to run back may aggravate her and make her chase the player even longer. Arrows can be retrieved from Mama Bear while standing at maximum range, though she may turn and attack the player. Running towards the ledge is the best chance of avoiding damage.

Remember, Mama Bear deals half the player's total health, so it's important to always heal up when attempting to fight her.
