Introduction
It has come to my attention that SOME people on the Steam Market

don’t exactly understand how to effectively sell items. That being said, I feel that SOME of you

need to be educated on this matter.
What is the Steam Market?
The Steam Market is a place which allows you to buy or sell in-game items using Steam credits. Looking for a certain hat that would normally only be available through promos? Just check the market. A special paint? It’s bound to be there. A Strange Silver Botkiller Minigun MK. II? Without a doubt, it’ll be for sale.

Also, things on the market are usually cheaper than they are in the Mann Co. Store. For example, a key in the Mann Co. Store is about $2.49, right? If you look on the market, it’s average price is about $2.39 apeice. It may only be an extra 10 cents, but it's another 10 cents you could use on something else.
What Can I sell on the Steam Market?
Anything that gives you the option to “Sell” in your Steam Inventory. If it has a green button with the word “Sell” on it, it can go on the market. In TF2, that means:

Crates
Strange-quality Weapons
Keys
Hats/Cosmetics
Strange Parts
Killstreak Kits
etc.
How much should I sell my item for?
You CAN put any price you want (that’s over $0.00) on your item, but that doesn’t necessarily mean someone will buy it. If you want to charge your Vintage Tyrolean for $400, then you have the ability to do so. Will anyone buy it at that price? NO.

How do you know what price to put it at? Well, if you decide to sell an item, it will ask you how much you want to sell it for. Above the area you name your price, there is a line graph that tells you when this item was bought and what it was priced. This can be seen in the image below.

The only part of this graph that should be of your concern is the very last point in the graph.

This will give you a general idea of what the current average price is for that certain item. If you want a good amount of money out of it, consider putting it either at or a little above that price at the end of the graph. If you want money right here right now, price your item a little less than the last one sold, about 3 cents less is a good idea. If sold at a little less than the last one sold, you’ll probably get your money within a few minutes, depending on how much demand there is for that item.
Conclusion
Those are the basics to understanding the Steam Market. If you want to get this down to a science, then I suggest taking a look at Hillsdale College’s “Economics 101” video lectures.

Thank you for reading, I hope this guide helped you.

I always follow the sell low stratigy when selling trading cards. People buy lowball cards, then you can profit and buy lowball stranges or vintages.

I remember buying The Holiday Punch on the Mann Co. Store before (this was when I didn't know about the market) and not having to pay tax...

also buying keys on the market vs manncostore does not require tax. (manncostore does I believe.)
