Introduction
This guide will give you answers to some commonly asked questions from SteamOS beta users.

SteamOS is currently in beta. If you have any feedback to share with the developers please leave a post in the Steam Universe forum.

Accessing the Desktop
SteamOS has two layers to it. It has the standard Big Picture interface and a desktop mode which offers additional system settings and configuration options.

Select the settings button at the top of the Big Picture interface and choose the menu option titled interface. On the page check the "Enable access to the Linux desktop" box.

Select the power button at the top of the Big Picture interface and choose Return to Desktop.

After a few moments you'll see a screen which look similar to the one below.

If you'd like to return to the Big Picture interface you can select the SteamOS Desktop text found along the top of the applications bar and choosing Log Out on the drop-down menu.
Assigning a User Account Password
Before you can run commands which require superuser privileges you'll need to pull up the terminal and assign a user account password[en.wikipedia.org].

To access the terminal select the activities menu at the upper left corner and choose the applications category. From the list locate the terminal icon to open it.

Within the terminal type in the following command.

passwd

You'll then be asked to type in a password twice, once done you'll now be able to use that password when prompted within the terminal. This password will requested whenever you use run any sudo commands.

You can change the password at anytime by running the same command again.
Accesing the System Settings
To access the system settings select activities from the applications menu and choose the applications category. Locate the system settings icon and select it to pull up the SteamOS equivalent of the control panel.

Taking Screenshots
In order to take a screenshot of the SteamOS desktop you must have a keyboard plugged in. Simply press the print screen button and the screen will flash indicating the screenshot had been taken.

Screenshots you've taken can be found by navigating to the Home > Pictures folder.

Submitting Bug Reports
If you've found any bugs with SteamOS they can be reported using the SteamOS github page[github.com].

If you're in possession of a Valve hardware prototype bugs and issues can be reported using the Atlassian OnDemand site[valvesoftware.atlassian.net]. Instructions on how to sign up for an account will have been delivered to your verified email address, the subject line of the invite reads as the following and will have been sent from an @valvesoftware.com address.

[JIRA] You have been invited to use Atlassian OnDemand

For users with access to the Atlassian OnDemand site you can select Windows Key + B to launch the bug report tool within SteamOS. This will automatically include a screenshot and important log files which can be used to assist Valve with resolving issues. You'll also need to fill in your Atlassian OnDemand account credentials and a description of the bug along with any other relevant information.

Suggestions and Requests

Any information you can give about installing? All 3 of the computers in my house show an option to boot UEFI, but when I attempt to it just goes straight to Linux. No installer or anything.
