First Things First!
This is my first ever guide and probably the smallest guide you'll ever see, so if you have any feedback that I can use to improve or add to this Guide (I will grant credit) then it would be much appreciated. Also I apologies for any bad grammar. Some experienced players might of already figured out this strategy for them selves but for the people that haven't I would like to give you the best start before you head on into the dungeon ..WITHOUT CHEATING!!
The Fishy Begining
After you have finished creating your character and you spawn into the world for the first time. (If your completely new to the game feel free to explore the town till you memorize the where abouts of things) if you look at the bottom right hand corner you will see how much gold/money you have. If you looked around the shops you will know you can buy very little, nothing that will make much impact for survival in the dungeons ..except One thing that you can buy with that tiny amount of gold/money.
Bartleby
Find the shopkeeper named Bartleby {Bold, Chubby, Wears a white apron} and buy a Fishing Rod, nothing else!! This Fishing Rod is the most powerful tool starting out in a new game.

Gone Fishing ..With a Diffrence
WARNING: This can take a lot of time and patience, also can be frustrating for some people.

Head north and find the lake with floating orbs of light A.K.A a Fishing Spot. Get close to it and click on the Fishing Spot and go fishing for a while until you've had enough (this can take some time, but trust me it pays off in the end). By fishing we can get all sorts of things mostly fish but also Gems, Jewelry and Legendary Items (items that have a yellow background). Now you want to sell all of these items but first any Legendary Items you may of picked up (make sure you get at least 1 of them from fishing) you need to identify them before you get any bonus stats from them or they become of any value. To do this right click on an Identifying Book/Scroll and left click on the item you want to identify, Simples!! Now your two choices are to wear it/them or as the better option for now is to sell it/them in any of the shops but also sell any other items you got from fishing. Fishing this way can also get you the I Guess You Were Hungry ... Achievement.
Zim Zimany, Zim Zimany, Zim Gambling-Zimroo
Now you should have bags of cash to use, most people are satisfied with just having lots of gold/money (more fool them) however I like to take this one step further and this is where you get the chance of having items way above your level before even entering a dungeon. first if you are completely new to this game have it in mind that the things with text surrounded in green are good and can be equipped the things with text surrounded in red are bad and/or cannot be used yet (this will help you in the next step)

Now walk towards the bottom left hand corner of the map and look for a shopkeeper named Zim {Brown Hair, Wears a Lot of Green, Looks a Bit Like Robin Hood} This guy is special as he is not like any other shop and can be some times risky! He has random prices for major random enchanted stuff (Most of the time, good but sometimes bad). Some times the prices you pay is not worth it, hence the gambling element of using this guy. Yeah there's some risks but that's why the game is called FATE is it not? At the same time what does it matter when I just taught you how to get loads of gold/money for free, with that in mind the way I see it is all win win!! Now buy anything you wish but make sure you can use it. If the chance that there is nothing you can use, come out of the shop and Press Esc, save and exit and then reload your save and go back to Zim.

Playing FATE Like a Pro
Finally when you are finished kitting your self out you are ready to face the dungeon but do not be hasty take the time to accept quests but as one last tip only ever take quests one level above the dungeon you have got too in this case level one but as it is the start of the game you can allow to take quests on level two. This will make the game a lot easier and a lot longer also levels you up faster.
People's Suggestions
  • sinsterkill3r Suggests: Riko the Penguin (can be found in the Graveyard Area) can enchant items for you as it can be cheaper than buying from Zim. Using Riko has grate risks of the chance of paying out and getting nothing or getting a bad enchantment that can ruin the item. On the other hand you can get a small enchantment and if you lucky you can get some sockets to place gems. This can work well along with the fishing but you have to be prepared to take the risks.

  • Floyd101 Suggests: When going into dungeons, the deeper you go underground when finding fishing spots there is a greater chance of finding special/legendary Items, bagging big some big money this will defiantly help you keep ahead of the game. Also you can find better fish from these fishing spots, fish that last longer or even better, permanently.
Time To Wrap This Up!
Well that is all there is to it, I hoped this helps you in some way!! Thanks for reading or using my guide and good luck also have fun kicking butt in those dungeons. ^-^

any questions or feedback, please leave it in the comments it would gladly be appreciated!
P.S I Would love to know some of the stuff you guys maniged to get from this, Stats ect.

With Rikko the Enchanter, you can save your game before hand and if you get a bad enchantment, you can force quit the game (without saving and exiting) through alt tab and try again by reloading your save. A bit of a trick, but if you don't mind exploiting this, then by all means go ahead. I for one just love seeing how many good enchantments I can get onto a single ring before it becomes too expensive for me to afford.

Keep on reloading save and search town until you have 3 quests for the floor below you, works from the start of game.(Don't enter dungeon until you have 3 quests for floor 1,)

Figured a version of this out myself after my save got wiped.

also found it jumps the prices of goods in the shop when you sell of a High Quailty item and go from a 300 or so gold to a couple thou or mil.

so i re-started and this time will only sell the fish and simple jewlery and cracked gems to the shops, and use the coin to buy as full a set of Leather Armor as i can.

Turns out fishing is a great way to get gold, especially if you get the right item. I found an "Enchanted Cheesehead of the Emerald Bay" . It gave 100% chance of gaining more gold from enemies, but took 75% of your Vitality. I sold it for, about, 200,000 gold.

Wait so even if I'm not filled up with quests I should still wait to get quests 1 level above?

At the start of the game, I find that using Ruby, Opal, and Turquiose are exetremely helpful in keeping you alive. Especially on harder difficulties. Just go to the enchanter and get some sockets.

@ Beta Quote Yes. The deeper the level that you're fishing on, the greater chance of gaining a flawless fish, a piece of rare equipment, a rare gem, whatnot.

What about chances of getting Flawless fish? Does that increase with depth?

One other method to REALLY power up your game. Use the chest near Bartley to store things you want to keep for later. Heres the trick.... Make TWO sets of armor/weapons. The second set doesn't matter what stats it has but each item MUST have max sockets. Put the grey triangle gems (forget stone name) that IMPROVE your chance of finding a magic item. Then when you find a fishing hole. Port back to town, put on the armor LOADED with 15% enhancement gems (My armor currently has 12) and THEN go fishing.... 15% x 12 = 1.80. Unfortuneltly this does not mean you will get a magic item every time but you certainly get a lot. Have fun
