Raider parties often encounter danger on their own or start looting food in the area before they reach your base. Though i did miss the possibility that visitor factions can be smaller depending on the map and game modes.

Maybe the AI is different in a game without Invisible Strain, but the two trading parties on my map are always alone, and raiders on the map don't necessarily head towards your base (in the general direction). I think there's this raider party of 2 that has been staying in the north of the map for over a week while my base is deep south, wandering up and down and all around this large town. Also, raider party and zombie swarm sizes tend to correlate to the size of your own community.
