Refitting old ship for A12
By troglodyt
There are LOTS of beautiful ships on the workshop. But sadly most of the older ones just don't work if you load them in A12.
All it takes to make them work again are a few simple console commands, though.

Only a few simple steps.
Open the console and type:
di

This will show you (at the top middle of the screen) information about the ship and block under your targeting reticle.
Important are third and last line:
The ship ID (ID=1066 'The Ship Name')
The internal block name (382/HullThinSmall)

Now you can replace blocks like so:

replaceblocks <shipID> <oldBlockName> <newBlockName>

On most ships its sufficient to replace RCS blocks with empty space and armored blocks with steel blocks to get the ship working on tier 4.

The blocknames differ for HV, SV, CV and BA!
Just look at the block you want to replace to get the correct name.

replaceblocks 1066 rcsblocksv empty
replaceblocks 1066 hullarmoredthinsmall hullthinsmall

I just tested deleting larger blocks and you are right. I never had this message before so I guess they changed something. I don't know of a solution for this.

I'm trying to get a huge ship of a friend back into the air without blowing its cpu up and have to delete a huge amount of thrusters. However there doesn't seem to be any way to delete them with a command, because both 'empty' and '0' have a size of 1,1,1 - while other than the smallest thrusters do not... Welp.. I kinda calculated that I wont get that behemoth into the air, while abiding to the cpu mumbo jumbo, anyways. Thanks for the help though. Maybe you can bring peoples attention to that problem in here?

If you get error messages: Check the exact speling of the block name. I like to forget underscores often ;-)

I misunderstood. I thought you ment replacing one thruster type/size with another. Replacing a smaller with a bigger block obviously cant work. But same size should.

Replacing any block with "empty" definitely should work (unless recent updates changed something). I deleted a lot of blocks like that (rcs, thrusters, decorative).

well its kinda gives my an error message. the empty block has size 1,1,1 while the thruster has 2,2,3 for example

I didnt test thrusters but you should be able to replace any block including thrusters.

Is it possible to replace thrusters?
