How to get the game working on Linux

Game runs in ScummVM, but bundled ScummVM is the Windows build. Proton didn't work for me, but luckily there's lot nicer way. There's Steam wrapper for ScummVM called Roberta.

Installing game and Roberta

First step is to get the game installed. As Beneath the Steel Sky is free game, it can be bit tricky as you might get platform not supported popup. In order to fix that go to Steam settings and Steam Play section. Choose to enable Steam Play for all other titles and then restart Steam. If you now click play from the store page, game should get installed just fine.

Second step is to install ScummVM if you don't already have it. While at it, install also inotify-tools as Roberta requires it.

Third step is to download Roberta from https://github.com/dreamer/roberta/releases

Final step is to follow installation instructions from https://github.com/dreamer/roberta#prerequisites

After doing this, getting other titles using ScummVM working will be pretty simple. There's plenty of them listed here: https://steamhost.cn/curator/35667778-Powered-by-ScummVM/. Just pay attention as some of the not recommended ones have no use for ScummVM as such as games re-release has native Linux support and thus work without any extra hassle.

I use Gentoo, so I had to interpret the instructions little bit.

You don't necessarily need to modify the configuration file. I would assume it will be created anyway only after you have launched the tool successfully.

What's important that you have done the steps under installation. You want to use the tarball version, the Git version is more useful if you are familiar with Git. And you need to install Git first anyway.

Pay attention to the path in the instructions. Roberta needs to be there in order for Steam to be able to find it.

I can give you better hints if you tell me what Linux distribution you use and are you using command line or GUI.
