Introduction

Hi, i am ThaWolf and im playing this game for a longer time now, i started this guide with v0.5a in the early Alpha, where it was very hard to find Information how to do anything at start, this has changed for the better in the Beta, but SF still has a long way to go.

I will keep updating this Guide on any builds i consider "stable and a big Upgrade"
Is it worth to buy it?
That really depends on what you can gain out of it, here is a short Overview!

Fort Defense: [Deactivated in 7.5]

You have to defend your VAT, if it gets damaged, water will run out of it, if its gets fully destroyed - Game Over.
On every tick, Enemy Leeches will spawn, and you will get resources.

You need to build walls and Turrets, while killing Leeches, and you need to collect blue boxes for better weapons and Blueprints to even get Turrets and more resilient wall boxes.

Survival:

-Lego style block building
-build Towers, Castles... out of Wood, Stone,... and color them
-build Turrets to defend your Strucktures
-build Buggys or Hovercrafts for more speed
-mining deep into the earth or find surface Hills to gain resources
-collecting new Bluprints trough looting Animals (they must have eaten some Engineers)
-discover crashed Spaceships (radiation Alert!)
-hunt animals to keep yourself alive (injections are not that tatsy tho)
-dont get eaten by Leeches!

Creative:
Basically like Survival just without any Lifeforms, all usable Blueprints unlocked, and infinite Items.
If you just like to build stuff, without taking care of mining and survival, this is four you!

Overall Warning:
Game is in beta, while many things have massively improved there are still Bugs, Graphical Issues, Frame rate drops, and Inventory wipes to expect.

Quoting myself:
“Never before i spent so much time with digging, creating Dwarfenlike Underground Fortresses, mostly to bridge over Natural Wholes, where you could fall into the nowhere, im having lots of fun with this alpha.”

I hope this helps you with your decision, personally I bought it for 10€, and for that price i feel its worth it!

Start a Survival Game: Step By Step Walkthrough
What is survival?
Basically its the Open World of Starforge, whatever you do/change will stay like it is.

Why is it called Survival?
Because of Leeches, its their planet, they don’t like you, well as food they actually do!
They also destroy your stuff if you hide on it, otherwise they leave it mostly alone.
If you have Turrets firing on them, they will attack back, same as if it would be you.

How do I prepare myself before I start a new game?
First, know where your sprint button is!
Second, know where your Flashlight Button is!

Game start Walktrough:

If your lucky:
The random Generator did NOT spawn a Leech right behind you, which then would be already chewing on you, open your Inventory, sort you Action Bar to your liking, keep in mind the "Ground Pounder" is not just you first Drill it is also your basic Melee Weapon!

If your not lucky:
Sprint forward, run torwards one of the "glowing Bugs"(passive), and keep on running.
Usually the Leech will now attack the little bug, anyway just running away works too since you so fast that you can leave the aggro range.

In 7.5 this shouldnt happen at starting/joining a game, but you never know!

Why shouldn’t I run off to far form the VAT at start?
The random Generator at start, spawns big, up to huge wholes, which can go down thousands of meters, if you fall down, and you survive, kill yourself or spend the next 5+ hours to dig yourself up.

OMG I got eaten:
Press R to respawn, dieing is bad in Survival, everything but your stating stuff drops where you died, gettign it back is hard and often impossible.

Your first Game ever:
I recommend that you start a private Survival game, you can call it "test".
Dont start farming anything, instead run around, sprint, climb, get yourself killed by jumping into canyons, get yourself eaten by Leeches or die from Radiation near the crashed Spaceships.
You can do this as often as you like, this will help you to get a feeling for the game!

Lets start Surviving:
Avoid Leeches, you are naked and all you have is your crappy Drill, you know how that ends!
There are 2 passive Bugs, the tiny glowy ones and the a bit bigger not so glowy bugs, they are you foodsource and they also deliver other basic crafing stuff.

Start hunting them until you have killed 5-10 Bugs, use E to open the loot Window, now drag and drop the Items into your Inventory.

Use TAB to open your Inventory/crafing Menu. Find the MR Injection, click on it, now on the right side, you can choose how many you want to build, make as many as you can.
The Bugs must taste really bad since this is your food, ready to be injected directly into your Venes!

The Bar at the bottom on the right side is your "food" Bar if it runs out you die.
The little man above it is your health, if your injured it turns yellow > red > dead.

Armor UP:
The animals also drop the resources you need to build you first Armor, kill even more of them and then find the Armor Blueprints, produce them and then drag and drop them into your Power Suit Bar on the middle right side of your Inventory screen.

Prepare for the Night!
At night much more Leeches will spawn, it is wise not to be on the ground!

If its getting Dark, don’t forget to turn on your Flashlight!

Build your first Tower!

You need Blocks, you start with the Blueprint for Wooden Blocks, to build them you need, you guessed right > wood!
How to gather resources, you find in the next chapter in great detail. > How do I get Stuff?

Gather 25 Wood then open your Inventory and build 25 Wood Blocks.
Drag the Wood Block into the 4rth box of your Action Bar, press TAB to close the Inventory.
Now press 4 to select the Wood Block boxes!

Basic Tower of 4 Boxes height, high enough that the Leeches cant eat you!

Start with building 1 box right in front of you, half of it will be under the earth, that’s fine.
After its build, move your Cursor over it and left-click-hold until the Cursor changes, then move it away from you, so that you build 2 more blocks.
Now build a single block on the middle or your 3 blocks, jump on it, then look down and build another block on one end of your block-line, build another block on it and jump up, you should now have 3 stairs.
Turn left and look down, build 4 new blocks so that is now on the same Level as the one your standing on, it should look now like an “L” from above.
Walk 1 block forward and turn left again, look down and build 4 blocks, you should now have a block in front of you to jump up, do so and you are done!

You are now high enough that Leeches cant jump attack you, and you got spare blocks left to repair your basic tower, you will need them!

At Night you should be on the Tower, with your Flashlight turned on and a Weapon in your hand, its not the time to run around, wait until its day for activities!

Another possibility is that you use the new Resource hills as you "tower", so you can mine all night long!
How do I get Stuff?
Mining with a Mining Drill and chopping down Trees with a Chainsaw or Drill. [7.5]

Mining Guide:

Important things for your Mining Operation:
Don’t start mining to close to your VAT, your only making it harder to build something bigger later on.

Surface Mining:
Recent builds have a new mining Method, there are now litte Hills seeded over the map which contain Resources!

Deep Mining:
Equip the Mining Drill, now on the left side you can see a degree indicator, if you dig down with 30 degree you can run back up, if its over 30 degree you can go down but, cant go up anymore.

I highly recommend taking a Forging Terminal with you, if you start going deep.

Mining Drills:
There are now more mining Drills, you start with a "crappy" one of course!
What a drill can do, and what not, you find out by clicking on it and reading on the right side.

Mining Drill Functions:
Left click to mine
Right click to spill out Dirt, or any other resource by:
Ctrl + Mouse Wheel to select what material
Left click and Right click to load up your “Pillar of Death”, when you release them, it will make a long whole into the ground, your also getting some resources, but very few.

Resources to gain:
The deeper you mine the more interesting stuff you get, there are lots of resources in the game now!

Dirt: you don’t need it, besides filling up wholes or building a hill.
Stone, Sand, Iron, Oil,...much more with 7.5

Gaining Wood:

You can now use a Chainsaw or any Drill.

Resources to gain: Wood : for building blocks

Using the Chainsaw/Drill:
This can be a little bit tricky since its slugish and the feedback is still lacking, the drill is even worse, fallen over trees tend to "flee" from you.

You go to a tree and use it, you need to place the blade so that you hit the tree, you are hitting the tree if you can see wood shavings flying around.
This will take a few seconds, then the tree will fall.
Now you need to do the same thing to the fallen tree, usually it works twice, it makes a wooden sound and will drop, run over it to add it into your inventory.

Roaming for Weapons and Blueprints:

To get better Weapons and new Blueprints you need to fins Blue Boxes, they spawn randomly all over the map, the best way to find them is to run around on flat land without trees and keep jumping, it helps to increase the sight in the options.
Turrets:
You need to find Turret Blueprints and Generator Blueprints, the better the Generators are the more Turrets they can provide with energy and their “energy bubble” radius increases.

Laser Turret: Point dmg
Rocket Turret: splash dmg

They can easily kill you, and they kill me often if a Leech spawns close to me and i am on the ground, they shoot at Leeches and don’t bother if a Human is in the way!

Slammer Turrets: to weird for me to use them ...

(Laser towers and other Blueprints you find are not Turrets, you can somehow transfer energy over distances, i just stick to generators, haven’t found any reason to use them yet. (Currently removed in 7.5))
Vehicles:
Well they make you faster, drive to your mining Site, or even down to your Resource Cave 1000m below the surface.
I haven’t done this yet since all vehicles are pretty big, and big spaces attract Leeches, but im thinking on doing it, every time I wander down...
Building and Mining Skill Tree
Desabeld in 7.5

Building and Mining will give you XP which you can spend on the Skill Tab "K" it enabels you to build faster, build more resillient blocks, increase your inventory....
General Tipps:
If you want to build a straight line of blocks you can hold down the left mouse button and move it into your desired direction, it works best if you start below you and move it forward.

You cannot pause the Game, even when your in Options it will not stop, so make sure your in a save place or you will be eaten!

If you found Blueprint, you need to click on it >Dropdown Menu > USE, then you can buildthe Item, if you got the resources needed.

The Searchlight works fine, besides that it makes a sound which will drive you crazy!

Little Boxes with Blueprints can be found around the crashed Spaceships!
(Blue Boxes are currently not in the game [7.5])

(Don’t remove blocks until you have the Salvager Perk, since they will just get destroyed! [Disabeld in 7.5])
End
If you got critics, want me to add things, have Tipps I can add, or anything else, feel free to post in the Comments here!

I hope this helps,
Wolf

Better yet. Take a dump on fresh grass... Let it stand for about 1.5 years.. Next, insert a few twigs in it... then jiggle. You'll be more satisfied than playing the steaming pile of shit that they call Starforge RAAAALPHa.
