Use Airborne jewel (+30%)
With Razor sharp you can keep your sharpness quite easily.
after beating nergi the catastrophes light was basically my main weapon since the elderseal and dragon damage in general are overall the most helpful.
after the main story it's straight to behemoth since the entire set is the best the base game has to offer.
after starting iceborne it took quite a long while until i actually found decent replacements until you get to the rathalos one for the bounce protection at least.
as for the weapon i went with the odogaron one sincedefinitely has a decently long white sharpness and quite a lot of affinity.
after that i'd suggest going for 3 pieces teostra to regain masters touch and switching to the ebon odogaron weapon for the dragon element again while retaining the main bonuses of that weapon tree.
as for skills in particular i'd say that should be best to figure out yourself what you really need to stay alive
if you don't have masters touch and a very high affinity (in the upper 70s minimum without counting weakness exploit) it'll chew through your sharpness rather quickly...
so all in all there's not that many glaives available to actively choose from when going the way of the aeerial glaive since the default affinity of the weapon should be as high as possible to not having to resort to temporary stuff like latent power.
as for a general progression suggestion check the next comment
(stupid 1k character limit on comments) >_<
(needless to say that because of that i never even felt the desire to touch any other weapons)
so yea, while i admit that you could potentially dish out a bit more damage on ground, being in the air is not only more fun but usually helps you dodge quite a bit of damage that's hitting the ground as well (rath breaths/claws/tail swipes etc)
plus most of the aerial attacks deal a decent amount of mounting damage and since you're actually dealing damage while mounted compared to the 1 hp stabs of all the other weapons i've had others play with i'd say it even counters out the damage loss in the long run
As a bit of context, World was my first MonHun game and I was nearly exclusively aerial glaive for the first... I'm going to say, up until HR Negigante?
The Aerial Glaive is the most fun part of using the glaive. It's the reason I picked up the glaive. It's really good at what it does, and breaks parts that others struggle with. Sure, you might not break Anjanth's legs every hunt, but you're constantly slapping them in the head and breaking the wings of any flying monster.
Oh, and also there's just something amazing about using this against Azure Rathalos. He's flying, you're flying with him rather than waiting for him to land or having to flash him.
Sol ignore the author. Use aerial glaive whenever you feel like it presents an opportunity or if you want to have fun.
depending on the fight ofc, but those 2 skills alone can literalls shredd xeno jiivas wings in seconds when just doing the helicopter and afterwards it's basically a crit fest if you're having weakness exploit...
for the smaller monsters it's usually just mounting -> wounding parts whiule it's on ground -> mounting -> repeat till dead
