Ebony Void Crusade Mastery, just two +4 missions as highest difficulty
By grimstalker and 2 collaborators
This is a guide for completing a full Ebony Void Crusade, with all missions, to meet one of the season challenges.

The path through the missions is optimized so that there are just two +4 difficulty maps.

Versioning
The game developers have stated that void crusades won't be changed or added, so I'm not expecting any major issues with the paths getting outdated.

The last round of updates to my void crusade guides was done with the game at patch version 2.3.4, during the Season of Warp Surge.

This guide was last updated in April 2021. I added a bit more general Void Crusade information, and added the Relic farming part.

What changed:

  • I changed my steam name, to bring it in line with reddit, the game and discord.
  • The season objective with all Info Fragments got changed to 75 minutes (was 60 in the Season of Inferno)
  • A Versioning/Update history section was added
  • An Info section was added
  • All guides got (roughly) the same format
  • Amber got an Info Fragment path, and a discussion of its merits
  • Viridian got a Relic farming route
General Void Crusade information
  • Bonus, Secret and Covert missions add a higher bonus to loot than regular missions
  • Starting with the Season of Warp Surge, item levels will go up to 100. You need to do missions of at least +7 difficulty to get level 100 items, if you are 100. I have yet to find out - all other things being equal - whether an extra Tarot card, or extra difficulty would lead to more level 100 items
  • I'm pretty certain the Servoskull can not spawn right next to the starting node on the VC map, but it can spawn one node away. Apart from that, it seems random. And you can get unlucky, and it will show up in a high difficulty mission, in a room full of Elites
  • In almost all cases, the Servoskull is exactly in the direction you were facing/moving when you got the notification
Info Fragments
  • You will NOT get the info Fragment if you pick it up, and then concede the mission
  • The mission timer starts when the missions starts (not when you launch it)
  • The mission timer stops when you fulfill the mission objective (not when you leave the mission)
What that means for you: Do mission objectives first, until you get the 'Quit' popup. Then go hunt for cogitators and Info Fragments
Hardcore
  • If you die AFTER the mission objective has been fulfilled, the crusade continues
  • Abandoning a mission ends the hardcore crusade
  • Failing a mission (that includes hot pursuit and vip/guard rescue) ends the hardcore crusade Rescue missions get very dicey around +6, depending a little on Tarot Cards and enemy type
Keys
  • Two keys are granted for finishing the Supreme Mission
  • A key is granted after completing five missions of any kind
  • A key is granted after completing at least two Bonus missions
  • A key is granted after completing all Covert and Hidden missions
  • A key is granted after defeating the Wandering Servoskull
Misc
  • Dataslate Decryption Terminals don't have a map icon. Use Vrakos' guides if you get stuck
  • Cogitators for secret missions don't have a map icon. However, they are always in a 'secret' room you have to teleport to
  • 'Survivors' are in a group of guards, and one of them has a label of 'Survivor' when you hover over him
  • Hot Pursuit: Keep your mouse over the fugitive, and hold down the magic new button you have (usually '5')
Difficulty Increase
  • I always make my paths with the difficulties peaking in the middle, and then working down from there. It has been pointed out to me that that's not fully optimal, because some missions give bonuses for subsequent missions after completion, like '10% extra damage vs. Rebels'.
My take on that is: If you are really, really struggling to finish the missions, the bonuses might actually help you a bit.
At the same time, if you are really, really struggling with some normal missions on Void Crusades, my advice would be to hop onto Discord and to ask for help.
And, my focus when doing Void Crusades is gaining loot from the Supreme Mission. The quantity of Relics goes up with difficulty, and we will also get more level 90+ items. So I'm bumping up the difficulty there, and by the time we are at the Supreme Mission, we will have also collected all the bonuses.
  • As of this patch, the highest possible difficulty you can run a mission at is +29, and it's on the Crimson Void Crusade
  • For regular (and Supreme) missions, the difficulty gets set when the mission is made accessible
  • For Secret and Covert missions, the difficulty gets set, then the difficulty modifier is added for subsequent unlocks
Mastery Path
Mission number. Difficulty level of the mission. Difficulty increase.
  • 1: 0 This is a pretty big map. I selected a Tarot card that gave a 5 minute time limit, and checked something in my character details. 40 seconds left in the end
  • 2: 0 Mech map. Serious loot. The first one I did gave 5 mio credits from selling items. Loads of Psalm Codes, Void Shards and Cortex Fragments.
  • 3: 0 Data Slate dropped here. Unlocks Secret Mission 19. Slate also drops on 20.
  • 4: 0 Data Decryption. Don't run past it like I did on my first go. It's on the left hand side of the second big room.
  • 5: Covert Mission. In Swagtronx's map, this doesn't connect towards 21, as of August 2020, it does.
  • 6: 0 +1
  • 7: +1
  • 8: +1 +1
  • 9: +2 A Stormwatcher commander mission adds the cogitator for the Covert Mission 10 unlock.
  • 10:+2 Covert Mission. In Swagtronx's guide, this doesn't connect towards 17, as of August 2020, it does.
  • 11:+2 +1 Info Fragment
  • 12:+3
  • 13:+2 +1 Info Fragment. Last increase in difficulty. This unlocks the final mission at +4.
There is an argument to be made to do the unlock earlier, however that leads to 16 at +1, which we don't want, it's the nastiest mission I think.
  • 14: 0 +2 (the +2 never triggers for the unlock of 15, it's the old covert/secret mission unlock trick)
everything unlocked from here, take any order you like. Like always, I'll do biggest difficulty increase to smallest.
  • 15:+4 Three Fire Prisms, and a handful other elite monsters.
  • 16:+3 Info Fragment. Worst mission on the crusade, my cheat death got triggered by one of the Toxicrenes, on +4 and with bad Tarot rolls.
  • 17:+2
  • 18:+1 Info Fragment. A bit hidden in the top left corner.
  • 19: 0
  • 20: 0 Data Slate also drops here (even if you already picked on up and decrypted it in 3 and 4)
  • 21: 0
  • 22: 0 Info Fragment
  • 23: +4 Supreme Mission

Third Mission already sucks so much. Had no DMG+ Cards with me, rushed through the Map with Aether Blade and Survivor died before i was able to find them not even like 1 Minute into the Mission....now whole thing messed up

@grimstalker - I found out what had gone wrong. Before now I always missed the terminal in mission 4 to encrypt the dataslate found in mission 3 and so the secret mission 5 wasn't unlocked. So now I absolved it and mission 21 ist unlocked. Now I can absolve the missions as you marked it in the crusade map above and it will work as you wrote. Sometimes it good to read what is written: "4: 0 Data Decryption. Don't run past it like I did on my first go. It's on the left hand side of the second big room."

@grimstalker - I will try it again and prove if I can activate the covert mission by activating the cogitator in mission 3. With "behind the survivor" you mean that the cogitator right by the only loot chest in that level, in the right room, correct? As others wrote that must work, as you described it.

Just did this the other day and everything is still correct. Thanks for the great guide!
grimstalker  [author] 12 Feb, 2022 @ 3:52am
thinking about it: On Mission 3, there is a cogitator behind the Survivor. You did activate that one, right?

@grimstalker - Yes I found the dataslate in mission 3 and the warp smith told me that I need a Cogitator to decrypt it. In mission 4 I found a Cogitator for decrypting the dataslate. I asked because of the fact that mission 4 doesn't unlock the covered mission 5 and so I continued with mission 6 and so on until I have to absolve mission 21 but cannot make it because first I had to absolve Mission 22 to unlock Mission 21 which then is +10. So there is a +10 mission and not only just two +4 missions as highest difficulty as you wrote. That's what I want to tell you.
grimstalker  [author] 6 Feb, 2022 @ 11:55pm
@petemount - did you use the dataslate? There are no messages for that part, just the little green exclamation marks over the data slate (mission 3) and the terminal (mission 4).
And +10 - for a proper build - is easily doable.
