Intro
This guide has been created to show how to use Steam.Design[steam.design] to crop artwork showcase images for your profile, then show you what to do with the images and show how to upload them to create your very own artwork showcase.

*NOTICE*
If you already have a background and you are steam level 10 or greater skip to the "Steam.Design + Cropping" Step of the guide
Profile level
This guide is for creating an artwork showcase, this is one of the many profile showcases Valve gives for you to display on your profile. The requirements to display a profile showcase are simple, you must be level 10. Once level 10 is reached you unlock the ability to use one showcase, to use more further leveling will be required.

So, how do you get to level 10? You have 3 options:

1. The Community Badge
This badge can be completed completely for free and should get you to level 10. It can be found by clicking on your level when looking at your profile to view your badges page.

2. Use Card Sets to Craft Badges
Beyond the community pillar badge leveling up is done by crafting badges using card sets, cards can be collected by playing games and spending money in them. Alternatively cards can be purchased for leveling using card bots or the site https://steamlevels.com/.

3. Points Shop Badge
The new Steam Points Shop on the store includes "The Points Badge" which can be used to purchase badges using Steam Points thus leveling your account up aswell.
Profile Backgrounds
The goal of this guide is to create an Artwork Showcase which matches a profile background, so we are going to need a Steam profile background. Steam profile backgrounds cannot be custom uploaded, the only backgrounds available are ones connected with a game and put up on the points shop and/or Steam community market.

If you want help finding a good background here are some good guides:

Special Note Steam now has added animated backgrounds which can be purchased using points in the Steam Points shop, if you choose one of these animated backgrounds make sure you use the correct steps for the cropping process.
Steam.Design + Cropping
Now that you have reached level 10, chosen and background and set that background, it is time to crop the images for your showcase. The method to crop your images is very easy when it is done using Steam.Design!

Step 2 (Optional): Log-in using Steam by clicking the "sign in through Steam" button in the top right.
Step 3: Select your Background If you're logged in: Select your background using the menu at the top of the screen By Background Link: 1. find your background in your Steam Inventory 2. Click the "View Full Size" button on the background. 3. Copy the link 4. Paste the link where it says "Paste Background URL here" on the top of the Steam.Design web page, then press "Change BG"
Step 4: Click "Download Images"

Animated Backgrounds
Step 1: First go to Next.Steam.Design[next.steam.design] in your web browser.
Step 2 (Optional): Log-in using Steam by clicking the "Log in Steam" button on the left side of the screen.
Step 3: Select your Background Find the link to your background using this guide Then paste the link where it says "Paste Background URL here" on the left hand side.
Step 4: Click "Download Images"
Photo Editing
If you have followed the guide up until now you should now have at least two images, a middle and right side image for your artwork showcase. These alone can be uploaded, but assuming you have looked around Steam you've seen many people add things such as their names to their artwork showcases. Modifications and animations can be added to your images using a range of different programs which I do not have the time to all go over so instead here are two options, one paid and one free.

Paid (But also includes a 7 free trial):
Adobe Photoshop[www.adobe.com]
Adobe After Effects[www.adobe.com]

AE and PS are some of your best choices at the paid option, but come at a high price. For free you can use a 7 day trial version of either program or you can go for Free options such as:

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)[www.gimp.org] (Free)
Pixlr[pixlr.com] (Free Online image editor)

Don't have experience making artwork but still want something cool? Here's a safe list of Steam profile designers who can hire to make you art!

Image Sizing and Templates
If you choose to edit your images using a photo editor and/or animation program you will benefit from knowing the sizes of the images you are working with.

The image sizes are as such:

Middle Artwork Image (the larger image):
Width: 506px Height: any
Right side Artwork Image (skinny one)
Width: 100px Height: to match middle

To use them together use a canvas size of 615px, the gap between the images is 9px wide.

To make this easier a template can be found in this guide:

Uploading
Uploading is one of the most important steps of this process. Steam does not allow for you to easily upload your images with their full size, some adjustments need to be made.

To upload your images follow this guide:
