(BN) Palouse River Run (P&L Route Scenario)

In this scenario you will start by marshaling 45 loaded grain hoppers in Fallon using your two GP20s. Along the run if you start to stall on any of the three hills towards Garfield, you may start up 2050 while moving or you may stop and start her up. Be fully aware of the startup procedure, otherwise you can send your train grinding to a halt in no time flat. The manual is provided below, along with a useful video.

This is the most challenging scenario I've ever made. You don't necessarily need to fire up BN 2050, however it does make the run a lot easier. Keep in mind that one mistake during a startup on the fly can ruin your run. It is completely your choice as engineer whether or not you want to start 2050 while stopped or while moving, or whether or not want to start it at all. Become familiar with the startup procedure provided in the link below.

Some things to remember about operating the EMD GP20:

1. Begin the scenario by setting your unit selector switch from N 1 to N 2. This will allow you to control both engines, and is helpful for completing the switching tasks on the stiff grade north of Fallon.
2. Overheating shouldn't be an issue, however if it does become a problem do consider firing up 2050 ASAP.

Remember these key things if you choose to start 2050 while moving:

1. Do not engage any brakes on 2050 while moving; Keep its reverser set to Neutral at all times.
2. When starting 2050 while moving, remember to keep its unit selector switch set to N 1 both before and after startup.
3. After startup, remember to set 2050's isolation switch from "Start" to "Run" otherwise it'll just shut off.
4. When you're done, set your lead locos unit selector switch to N 3, this will give you control over all three engines.
