このModは陸上自衛隊の装備である「9mm拳銃SFP9」をモデルとしています。
ドイツの銃器メーカーH＆Kが開発し、2014年から販売が開始されました。本国ドイツではVP"Volkspistole"(国民拳銃)の名で呼ばれます。
自衛隊でのトライアルを通過した本銃は2020年5月に正式に公開され、また公開されたモデルは耐水性に優れたSFP-9Mであり、20式同様水陸機動団での運用を意識した仕様となっています。
