Manhatten Distance in use!
Just-in-time in use
Cordinates Point A: (xa,ya)
Cordinates Point B: (xb,yb)
Tiles per month per 100km/h : st (written in the speedbonus/goods list)
Average vehicle speed : sv in km/h
Supply/Demand per month : c in cargo/m
cargo per waggon/vehicle: cap

formula
Distance = |xb-xa| + |yb-ya|
Distance * 2 * c / st / (sv/100) / cap = Number-of-Vehicles

E.g.:
Coal Mine (100,57,1): produce 2300 coal/month
Coal Power Plant (34,78,2): needs 700 coal/month
Tiles/m/100km/h = 1280
Train: 75km/h
Waggon: 12 bulk goods
Routing: without detours

Distance = |34-100| + |78-57| = 100-34 + 78-57 = 87 Tiles
The distance are 87 Tiles.
87 * 2 * 700 / 1280 / (75/100) / 12 = 10.57 -> ceil (10.57) = 11
The needed waggons are 11. No. of trains depends on power of train and station lenght.
doesn't include any halts due jams or other.

Result
minimum Station size
no or small waiting times
minimum vehicle count
save investment cost
save maintainance costs
