Before
The game world is very dark by default. Does your game look like this or ever darker?

Let's fix this in three easy steps!
Step 1
Simply press ESC to bring up the options menu and click "SETTINGS
Step 2
On the bottom left you'll see a button called "BRIGHTNESS" as seen here.
Step 3
Grab the BRIGHTNESS slider with your mouse using the left mouse button.

Slide it to the right until you can see the way you want to.
All done!
Your game should look bright and shiny!

Have fun!

dunno if anyone still checks this but if you lay a torch down on the very edge of the anvil, it lights up your main working area quite well

The issue with the cave is that there's exactly 0 reflection of light. If I drop my torch I can't see anything more than a meter away from it. I'm not asking for real-time ray-tracing or anything like that, but light bounces and scatters. The walls of that cave are more absorptive than Vantablack.

I swear I checked settings before and I (somehow) must have missed it, thank you so much!

Being a simulation, caves should be dark. Lanterns would require oil to be refilled at a costly price, and fire in a mine would require you to die randomly from natural gas pocket explosions, and asphyxiation. Real world hazards are rough. The ability to buy a sacrificial canary for your mine would be a novel idea though...

though the lighting in the mining cave is not bright enough and need a better lighting system, maybe with the ability to set up lanterns or something like that

I agree, but there are reviews talking about how the game is too dark, and I felt like it was unfair to leave a bad review about the game when it is so easy to make it brighter. This guide was mainly aimed at the people who think the game is unplayable because of the darkness.

You can play with gamma too)) But as for me the original dark scene is better.
