Map generation
Let's generate a world. You can generate this world and check everything in the game more visually.

General overview of the World
The main thing to pay attention to is that places with rivers all of them have increased fertility for farms, the presence of rivers is also necessary for the construction of some buildings. The second thing to pay attention to is the large number of trees it will help you in a quick development, cutting down fruit trees gives you the food you need to start.
The availability of resources such as coal and iron is more of a nice addition than necessary. Ultimately, all mines will run out if you play long enough so you need to grow for renewable resources and trade.
You can also check for resource boxes or nomad houses (which give about 3 population).
You will only need gold and gems in the late game, so I wouldn’t pay attention to them too much.
Advantages and disadvantages of each spawn point

Decent amount of rivers and forests
3 places with coal
One nomad tent and several resource boxes
The downside is that mountains cover a significant part of the land.

A lot of space, a lot of woods, iron.
Generally a very worthy place.

Iron, coal, GOLD.
There is not much forest GOLD!
Below the desert above the tundra GOLD!
Not a bad place but with its flaws.

Lots of fertile land and forest.
Some useful resources.

All you need is a river forest, iron, coal ...

Many trees and a variety of resources
There are no rivers, low fertility.
Rocks everywhere.
Little room to expand if the game lasts long enough.
Didn't recommend this place to start only if you love the challenge.
My thanks
I want to thank google translator who did most of the work on this guide.

this is not accurate
you need to put into perespective the max land you can claim. If you start next to the sea, you won't be able to expand from that direction.
You can only clame up to 7 tiles away from your starting position. so for the first image you have there, it's actually best to start in the green area in the desert between area 1 and 2

For a fun challenge start in the desert on some gemstones and build a trading heaven :p

I have been trying different seed maps and so far the one I found the most useful is

Map: 123456789
Sea Level is Low
Everything else is medium
AI = 3

Location top left you will find a coastal bay area with plenty of resources. I try to start close to Tulips, a river, 2 or 3 forests and the rest will come naturally over time. Your expansion goes around the bay and into the desert where you will find something of everything.

I've got a seed (1) and Location 33,63 to try, but I can't find location information on the provinces during initial setup process. Any ideas on where this info is?

wrong the best spots are spots near iron and coal along the coast or river so you can export more and fish

How do we know what numbers affect which setting for the map?
Example: What numbers do I use for the land layout? What numbers do I use for resource layout?
How do we get more solid landmass, and less crappy islands?

but i agree on the trees. A place with no many trees will be really hard to play (and desert and tundra doesnt allow you to get animals). Unless you do it by fishing, just be sure that you will have at least one source of food, and better get 2 sources (fishing and animals if there are no rivers to put crops, for exemple). If you have rivers, you know that food will never be a problem.

you can get a loooot of food by fishing. You don't really need a high fertility. You will loose the big weath crops, so you will not play with beer and broad. But there are many ressources.
A large room to expend would be the first priority to me. Then i choose a place with many different ressources, doesn't matter wich one. :) Iron and coal are not necessary at all to me, because the iron is really cheap before you transform it. Just buy it on the market. Smell it, fabric tools, sell tools, and you will win at least 3x what it cost to you first.

(sorry for my approximate english)

I would prefer a starting location on with rivers, near the sea (at least 1-2 provinces away before having trading port), decent land fertility to plant trees, at least 1 coal, at least 1-3 provinces away from iron, 1-2 province ms away from cannabis, 3-4 provinces away from grapes and cotton, and of course with heavy concentration of fruits and trees.
With this preference I can max out my tier 1 luxury immediately abd will have no problem with tier 2 in which you need grapes for wine.
