Making a difference
An effective Section Leader can be the difference in a fight.

Whether it is putting down that crucial rally point that gets your section (or team!) back onto the front lines faster, getting a mark down on an enemy artillery for the Commander to rain hell from above, or spotting that sniper hiding in a building and marking him for the Section, your role is important.

This guide will go over the tools and mechanics available to the Section Leader so the next time you are given the responsibility, you can lead your troops to victory.

Choosing your load-out
Each section type has it's own load-outs for the SL. Most of the section types have a single load-out for the SL.

For the Infantry & Commander sections, the SL will have a few choices of load-out. When your section has less than 8 members, you will be provided with only the default option (Your section will also be limited on roles they can choose). When your section has 8 or more soldiers (or have a signaller for command section), the additional roles (LMG, grenadier, etc.) and SL load-outs become available.

There is a special case for the Artillery section lead, where he can place two artillery buildables if he a full section.

Tip: At the start of the game when you create your infantry section, if you want to use the secondary load-outs, wait for your section to fill up to 8 members before you spawn.

The default Infantry SL load-out will be given to you when you get a field promotion (When the current SL leaves, or someone assigns you the SL role).

Deployment Map & Section List
The deployment map, and the sections list are the first tools in your toolbox.

Sections List
In the Sections list you can do some basic stuff by right clicking a member

- Invite others to your section
- Kick people from your section (this is currently broken)
- Promote a section member to Section Leader
- Promote a section member to Fire Team Leader -- A Fire Team leader can deploy markers on the map to ping points of interest and place markers for their fire team (Move, defend, attack, observe, build) which are visible to the rest of the squad.

Deployment Map - Default button: Enter
The Deployment map is where you get an overview of the current battle. Here you are able to see all friendly troops and their positions, friendly emplacements (Artillery, Machine gun nests), current objectives and their current capture status, SL command markers, and other section's rally points.

You can place markers on the map that will be visible to others by right clicking and using the small menu that appears. Orders are in green, Call outs are in red.

Section Leader Tools
The Section Leader Menu - Default button: T
This is the main tool of the Section Leader. You can use this menu to place orders (Move, attack, defend, observe, build), issue call out markers, deploy buildables (Artillery, MG), place rally points, destroy rally points, and destroy buildables.

The centre of the menu for an Infantry SL performs a Section Charge - a short duration buff to your section that significantly speeds up their movement speed when charging with a bayonet-equipped rifle.

The centre of the menu for an Artillery or MG detachment will enable you to place your deployables

Rally Points
Rally points are placeable spawn points. To deploy a rally, you need 1 section member close by, and you use the Section Leader menu option to deploy it.

You will not be able to place a rally if enemies are close by.

You use these to create additional spawn points around the map so you can get back onto the front-lines quickly. These will save your section from having to run from the deploy points, which are usually situated quite far from the front lines.

Once a rally has been deployed, section members can no longer spawn on the SL.

Rally points can be destroyed in two ways. If the enemy gets close enough to your rally point, it will be destroyed automatically.

The other way is the SL can manually destroy the rally via the Section Leader menu. It can be strategic to destroy your rally - This will allow section members to once again spawn on you (eg. If you need immediate reinforcement in an area, or you have a better spot for your rally).

This is the most important job of the SL - making sure your troops can quickly re-deploy into the front-lines.

Binoculars
In your load-out you have a set of binoculars. These are vital to relaying information to your section members and the Commander.

When you equip your binoculars, you have the ability to place a Command Marker by left clicking while you are zoomed in.

This marker is used by the team Commander to call in Artillery, Gas attacks, and Smoke. You can also see other section's command markers on the map.

The second most important job of the SL is to relay information to their Commander by placing command markers, and to relay information to their section by using the binos in conjunction with call outs.

Wirecutters
Another equippable tool. These are useful for cutting barbed wire and creating new avenues for attack. They can be incredibly helpful for getting behind enemy lines where they are not expecting you. You equip them, get close enough to barbed wire, and hold down left click to start snipping.

VOIP Chat Channels: Local, Section, Command
There are 3 main voip channels to utilize while playing the role of Section Leader.

Local Channel (Default: V)- This can be heard by nearby teammates. It is useful for alerting friendlies close by to vital information (Locations of nearby enemies, spotting for MG nests & Artillery, rallying nearby troops to complete an objective).

Section Channel (Default: B)- This can be heard by your Section. Use this channel to motivate your troops, give them commands, and gather intel from section members. It is vital as a SL that you constantly update your section with the information they need to stay alive and win the fight.

Command Channel (Default: Caps Lock) - This channel can be heard by all Section Leaders & the Commander. Use this channel to pass information to other Section Leaders, advise command on what your command marker is placed for, advise friendly artillery where to fire (or when to stop firing!), etc.

Using all the available voip channels in unison will elevate your Section Leader capabilities to a new level.
Get out there and lead your troops to Victory!
Now that you have a basic overview of the Section Leader and the tools available to you, you are ready to run your own Section.

Remember your job on the field:

  • Place Rally points to give your section the ability to spawn closer to the front-lines

  • Place Command markers so the Commander can support the team with artillery, gas, and smoke

  • Place markers and call outs so your troops know where the enemy is advancing from

  • Relay information using the 3 VOIP channels

  • Lead and motivate your section over VOIP - Everyone will have more fun with an effective Section Leader!

Good luck out there !
