Creative Sentry Nest Destruction
By Digitic
Bored of sappin a sentry or Uber rushing it? This guide will teach you some (oddly useful) ways to break a sentry nest and confuse the engineer at the same time! Feel free to try these, they work great!

Intro
I'm back! Those of you who saw, commented on, or rated my last guide, The Evolutionary Tree of Spies, thank you! This guide, while not so picture-focused, will still be great for a laugh. It's also useful info as well, so there's two reasons to love it right there! (Warning: Guide side effects include raging/disconnecting engies, extremely confused opponents, and a general sense of wierdness.)
Destruction as the Scout
Scouts have the greatest sentry-busting tool in the entire game: Their speed and teamwork. Two scouts can effectively destroy a sentry by taking turns popping into it's sight range from different angles, then shooting it once and retreating. Just look on youtube for "how to confuse a sentry".

And then there's this.

Bonk can be extremely effective against sentries! Engie around? Does he have a gibus? Stand so that he's between you and his sentry, then taunt. Engis may rage and switch classes. You can also distract a sentry so that your teammates can either a) pass by it or b) destroy it. It may also run out of ammo, which is hilarious.

Non-destruction bonus: If an engineer dies, and you (a bonked scout) are being pursued by enemies, you can jump after passing a sentry and use the knockback to outrun anyone. Two problems though. Double jumping renders the upward knockback greater than the sideways knockback. Also, it doesn't work in enclosed areas. Useful, but it doesn't help to kill the sentry.
Destruction as the Soldier
The soldier usually bumrushes with uber or spams rockets at a building to destroy it. Every engie sees it coming and can get away, only giving the other team about 2 minutes to charge before the sentry is back. So, why not sap it?
Yes, I am actually reccomending using a weapon with less damage vs buildings to destroy buildings. This weapon disables sentries hit with a charged shot for 4 seconds, meaning that a communicating team can just run past it or destroy it themselves! Also, the same shot may set the engie on fire, forcing him to heal by his dispenser or with a health pack, which makes him so much easier to track down.

That not enough for you? You can also use the CM in range of the sentry and not have to worry. You have enough health to tank sentry fire for about 2 seconds, so turn the corner to the sentry while charging your shot to both disable the building and charge your Equalizer/Escape Plan to kill the engie.

Non-destruction bonus: The CM, with its lower damage against buildings, is the perfect weapon to distract engies from an uncloaking spy. It's flashy, loud, and little more than a nuisance. Just make sure your last shot is charged, and down goes the nest.
Destruction as the Pyro
Why is this not used often enough?

Pyros are primarily a short-range class, and the closest they get to creative is trying to airblast a sentry to tip it over. I've seen w+m1 pyros take out a sentry, airblast pyros take out reinforcements trying to save the sentry, I've seen it all. But only with uber or on 2Fort courtyard. And honestly, that's what pyro needs to kill a sentry. But use the homewrecker while ubered! If you're going to get that close to a sentry to beat it up, you may as well use the weapon with more damage vs buildings. Also, engies may think twice about going in to repair the sentry, and if they hesitate, the sentry is lost. Rescue Ranger engies can delay the sentry's death, but you can just kill it while it rebuilds.

Non-destruction bonus: You can get an engie to rage by damaging his sentry to a sliver of its health, then waiting for him to repair it and repeat. That way, when a heavy comes by, the engie won't be able to repair his sentry. Easy kill!
Destruction as the Demoman
I stand corrected. Demomen are extremely creative at destroying sentries, usually through sticky jumps and spinning on a sentry. They can bounce grenades, stickybomb in odd places, or just beat the crap out of the sentry with their bottle like this:
This is not my video.
Destruction as the Heavy
That's kind of every medic's worst nightmare, and not very helpful either.

Heavies have probably the least options for creative destruction, but they have one tactic. It only works once though, so be warned. When you get close to a sentry nest, pretend to be friendly. If the engineer is nice, he will wrangle the sentry and let you pass. Walk up to the sentry, throw your sandwich at the engie, then tomislav everything.

Non-destruction bonus: If you don't betray him, you get free access past the sentry. That's always good, right? (Unless there's a mean F2P pybro...)
Destruction as the Engineer
Anything goes here, since you shouldn't even be at the front lines anyway. You can always wrangle a mini-sentry, or just spam with the pistol. Or convince a medic to uber you. That engie will be shocked to the point of just standing there and watching (hopefully).
Destruction As the Medic
Fear not, medics! You don't need anyone in the first place! (Unless you have the Kritskrieg.)

For medic, you don't need a heal target to destroy a sentry! The ubercharge is basically a bonk for medic, so you can distract a sentry or empty its clip. Remember, a sentry targets the closest enemy to it, so you can protect that equalizer soldier who's about to run past the sentry. You can be useful all on your own. Communication is not required, but it is reccomended. You can also chain-uber. That will keep the engie down, but not destroy the sentry.
Destruction as the Sniper
If a sentry is dumb enough to be somewhere that you can get at it, don't bother scoping in your shots unless the engie is dead. You can headshot the engie, yes, but the sentry will not take crit damage. It's a slight damage increase for a higher risk of being counter-sniped and a lower fire rate. Not worth it. Also, Jarate does not disable sentries! (It would be cool if it did, though...) Also, try uber bumrushing with the SMG/melee. It's definetely unexpected.
Destruction as the Spy
Remember the disclaimer in the intro? This is why it's here. The spy has the best original technique to destroy a sentry in the game. If you type [bind f "destroy 3 0"] into the console WITHOUT THE BRACKETS, you can destroy your own sappers as a spy. It will net you plenty of points, while at the same time disabling the sentry, confusing the pybro (those sappers are disappearing... friendly engie here... where's the spy?), and making the engie go "Spy's spy's sap... spy's spy's spy's" etc. It's hilarious, and if you really care about being on the leaderboard, you will be. The engineer may even switch classes and weaken the enemy's defense! This is fun. Try it.

This video explains the sapping command! I did not make this! All credit for this video goes to the owner!

UPDATE: THIS HAS BEEN FIXED! IT NO LONGER WORKS!
Conclusion
Thanks for reading this guide! I may work on other "Evolutionary Tree" guides, but they will take longer than spy did. Other classes rely on their loadouts more than their skill level and the environment to alter how they play. Anyway, hope that this guide gave you some ideas to help confuse engies!

Lmao true, great guide btw. I love disabling sentries with the CM and using a pickaxe to destroy all the buildings in one explosion (with the engie gone obviously).

This is a great guide, and I tried every single possible way mentioned on the guide. And indeed they all work (except the "fixed command exploit"). 5/5 Gems. :bbtgem::bbtgem::bbtgem::bbtgem::bbtgem:
