Vampire Slayer is Team Fortress 2 server plugin and mod-gamemode. It can be played on any map.

The concept of Vampire Slayer originates from mod for Half-Life 1. The mod was also called Vampire Slayer. It released January 2001. Team Fortress 2’s version of Vampire Slayer released sometime mid 2012 and is currently run on 2 servers.

So what is Vampire Slayer in Team Fortress 2?

Vampire Slayer is a gameplay mod where a team of vampires faces off against a team of vampire-killing humans called slayers.

In the original Vampire Slayer mod for Half-life 1 players where placed into 2 teams: vampires and slayers. The goal was to kill everyone on the other team in order to win a round. The vampire team could jump higher and run faster then the slayers. They also had a leap move. Vampires could only deal damage in melee however they instantly kill slayers. They would also feed off of corpses for health. Slayers on the other hand had ranged weapons. Weapons where used to weaken vampires so that a slayer could go in for the kill with either a stake or a stake firing crossbow.

A lot of the mechanics from the original Vampire Slayer made a translation to Team Fortress 2; however a few work a bit differently. The main difference is how a vampire is killed. After depleting a vampire’s health they become stunned for a few seconds. Once stunned, they must be hit by a melee weapon in order to be killed. The mechanic of vampires gaining health from dead players’ bodies was removed. Instead vampires have a passive health regeneration.

In Vampire Slayer every round is in sudden death mode. This means the map objectives are disabled, no players can respawn, resupply cabinets don’t work, health pickups are gone and it’s possible to enter the other team’s base. If the timer ends the round is declared a tie.

The Vampire team has a leap forward move. This move is executed by clicking crouch and jump at the same time as holding forward. These instructions are not necessary to remember as they’re displayed on screen at the start of rounds alongside other useful basic information.

A few other noteworthy aspects of Vampire Slayer are: The blue team is always the slayers and the red is always the vampires. The thickness of fog on maps is greatly increased, shortening the range of visibility. Every player on the Vampire team appears as though they have the voodoo cursed soul cosmetic equipped. In other words they look like zombies. This effect stops at the end of rounds.

And that’s basically Vampire Slayer in a nutshell. A translation of gameplay from an interesting mod into Team Fortress 2. A wired gamemode possibly originally themed off of a TV show from the late 1990s.

  • Too bad the only servers I can find are saigns… Have fun.[www.gametracker.com]
  • I didn’t mention if the mod was privet or not. No online documentation exists on this mod so the answer is unknown. This is always why the date that the mod was releases is only a year number with no month indicated.
  • A lot of the players in the footage were bots.
